    We visited top show jump rider, Todd Minikus, at his barn in Wellington, FL to learn how he likes to set up a jump course. First he set the jumps, then we walked the course with him, and finished the day riding the course. What an experience!
    A variety of Premier Equestrian horse jumps were used including the culvert wall, skinny gate, roll top, rock wall, and liverpool. Heidi Zorn, President of Premier Equestrian, talked with Todd about course design strategies, setting jumps for teaching young horses and riders, walking distances, tips for getting around the show course, and the importance of safe and durable show jumps. For more information about the horse jumps used visit premierequestrian.com/product...

      It's called bleach. Trust me., I know from having a white pony that I showed. Moonlight Mistique aka Misty *she was a pain in the ass lol* would clean her from head to toe and that snot managed to lay in her pee pot before every competition. Although she was covered from head to toe, the slinkie won't help that 🙄😡❤️

    Reminds me of trying to slow down a gelding I ride, he gets very carried away and strong after leaving jumps, Ive almost fallen because of it, trying to find ways to stop that

    • @ellajohns245
      @ellajohns245 5 років тому +1

      Then don't jump. Do lots of pole work, changing the stride count in between two poles, shortening and collecting, and then start incorporating in grid work. Use a grid with a few strides to a bounce at the end to get him to pay attention, and if he rushes it and runs through it, he'll learn his lesson and improve each time he goes through it. The first couple times doing gridwork, come to a stop as soon as possible after going through the grid every few times to get him paying attention and not running out from underneath you. And GET A GOOD INSTRUCTOR! If your horse is doing things this naughty, your instructor isn't good enough.

    • @ellajohns245
      @ellajohns245 5 років тому +6

      This is definitely not even close to 1m50. It's 1m35-1m40. Horses refuse to jump over a certain height because of the rider not being ready to jump over that height. You need to improve your riding to be able to correctly jump before you can ask a less-than-finished horse to do so. A rider that is undereducated in jumping ruins the confidence of the horse, and they start refusing or running out.

      This is like 1m15, coming from a pro show jumper...
      Some of the jumps are closer to 1m20-1m30, but probably not quite that high

    He lets his leg get way too far in front of him. He needs to fix that, it throws him behind the motion in the air and weakens his lower leg.

    Why do you lean so far forwards after the jump. Thought that affected the horses balance?!

    • @kelsiejohnson3943
      @kelsiejohnson3943 6 років тому +3

      Cara Edwards if you are going straight to another jump or even to a farther away jump it helps release on their mouth and keeps of their spine when they are trying to canter/trot

    What is this sport called ?

    •  7 днів тому

      This sport is called *Showjumping*
      It is an equestrian sport where horse and rider navigate a course of obstacles. Skills required include precision, control, timing, and agility, both from the horse and rider, to clear jumps without faults and within a set time.
      Other similar sports where horses need to jump are :
      Eventing (Cross-Country Jumping)
      Hunter Classes
      Steeplechase
      Fox Hunting (Banned in the UK since 2005)
      Arena Eventing
      If you are interested to learn, start by basic horse-riding. Take your time because this sport can be VERY DANGEROUS and it needs a long time to master (many years). Always wear a helmet and safety vest. If you don't LOVE horse-riding- don't do this sport at all.

    Remember yourself too. Lower spine surgery is not a funny thing.
    Swim, ski and perhaps dance or stretch.

    Gosh men are so strong and they look so beautiful riding the big jumps. Girl legs always move a bit more. He sounds a little...umm, scared or worried? The ride was great and the horse was pulling at the reigns but he had enough strength and soft hands to pull her back. Great combo, but he doesn't sound confident, although he should be...Also guys tend to ride in front of the girth... Wonder why that is..?
