What my seem complicated is not: Spend less than you earn and you have a buffer. Spend exactly what you earn and you have no buffer. Spend more than you earn and you are in debt.
I don't mean to come off as rude, I just genuinely don't understand why this is is even a "thing" it appears that this is just a breakdown of common sense. You make what your going to make regardless, with what you make you have to put your bills and important expenses first and then you minimize your spending. I just don't know how you can simplify it any further than that it just seems like common sense. I'm 21 and I don't know much about finances and It just seems like a waste of time and thinking to do this when I can just pay for things when I need to pay for them, and make sure I have enough money in my bank account before I spend money on something I don't need. Everyone's acting like this is the greatest thing since sliced bread when all it is just common sense and responsibility

You need to really understand how to manage finances.. not this. This puts the brain on auto pilot and makes it's so you learn nothing about what your actually doing and what financial decisions to make. People are just lazy and they don't care to learn.
It keeps you from spending on things that you don’t need. The shopping budget folder is all she can spend for those two weeks or week. If your an impulse buyer it helps you stay responsible and not spend over your limit
the cash envelope system helps a lot if you make a lot of impulse purchases and/or swipe your card left and right when you’re going out. i’ve been using this system for 2 years now and i’ve been able to keep track of where my money goes as well as saving money since i had trouble with swiping my card everytime there was money in my account. this is (for me) has been an easier way to budget and keep track of my money :)
The reason that stuffing envelopes works is because it is cash. Its “real” money. Families have a digital bank account and they are up to their eyeballs in debt.
