- In order to close a budget gap, the MTA had to make changes to four subway routes. First, the V train was eliminated and replaced with an extended M train. The new M train now runs from Middle Village/Metropolitan Av to Forest Hills/71st Avenue via 6th Avenue, 53rd Street, and Queens Boulevard Local during weekdays. The W train was eliminated and replaced with an extended Q train that now runs to Astoria/Ditmars Blvd during weekdays. Finally, all G train service was cut between Long Island City/Court Square and Forest Hills/71st Avenue, making Long Island City/Court Square the permanent northern terminal for all G trains.
The W is coming back as of fall 2016 to replace the Q in Queens, because the Q will be rerouted to the 2nd Avenue subway, althought that the MTA is propousing the W from Astoria to Whitehall Street but riders are demanding more service along the 4th Avenue line in Brooklyn so there's a chance that the W will run to the Bay Parway station along the West End line. But let's see what happens in the MTA board meeting coming up soon.
the Bay Parkway was the Brown M train and did you see the M train trainz 12 video from Middle Village Metropolitan Avenue to Bay Parkway.
+Tysha Halsey I never play trainz 12!
Jason Anthony Just extend the J to Bay Ridge-95th Street. If you extend the W to 95th Street, then the like would have ZERO direct access to a yard.
G : Man I Cannot BELIEVE I got Cut Back
G : Let's Go back in time To Make Things Rightly
I AM GLAD THAT THE W TRAIN IS BACK
The W is COMING back to replace the Q train for Queens svc
The Q train will run from 57 st 7 av to Coney Island
can't wait for W train to come back
(W) Trains Will Come Back November 7 2016
Man oh man MTA BEING THE V BACK MTA™️
November 4, 2016 will be the last day of weekday Q train service in Queens, because the W train will return on November 7.
Too bad for all the lines that are gone including
Brown (M) and(V) and Queens Blvd (G) but the G just runs in Brooklyn and the M is just orange now but where will the mta go from now? Will 7 trains be banned? Will the 9 come back? Will trains be running in Staten Island? Well let's imagine that.
whats a budget cap
When Q was via the W line to queens the N was LCL/Local now that the W is back the N is EXP/Exprees
W train just came back
Richie your right the M is like the new V Now
its not the brown m was better because it can provide more service on the d train in Brooklyn
Lines EM the m goes to 2nd Avenue limited rush hours
joeyjet625 The entire Brown M service south of Chambers Street was so underutilized. Apparently no one realized that the D serves Chinatown 24/7 and here are other 24/7 alternatives in Bensonhurst. A better idea would be to extend he J/Z to Bay Ridge-95th Street on the R instead to help out that line and a neighborhood with very few public transit alternatives..
so is that why V and W were the eliminated trains and the G got cut short from Long Island City Court Square to Forest Hills 71st ave?
so the m trains go to bay parkway and the g train take over the m trains to forest hills?
RKB NYC NO!!! The beneficial Orange M train will stay the way it is now and the G can focus its resources on handling the growth of Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
For the new M train route you could either walk or take the bus
Christopher Mills The main workers have to suffer from middle village to forest hills it like 3 miles away from 63 Dr rego.
+M Train Mta I know right
Christopher Mills if the new M train didn't exist the V would use the r46 some r32 and 1 r42. When the fake March train uses r160's, mta sucks.
ActiveCity Wrong. Right now, no lines suck. The ONLY way the MTA can bring back the V is by building a new connection between the Nassau Street Line at Bowery and the 8th Avenue Line vía Spring Street as well as a new connection between Whitehall Street on the Broadway Line and the Fulton Street line at Hoyt Street. From there, the M will run the same route is does now, except via 8th Avenue and the new connection instead of via 6th Avenue. It would also be extended to 179th Street. The C would have to be moved to the express tracks to make rooms. From there, the V would be introduced as an overlay of the F between 179th Street and Kings Hwy, except vía Queens Blvd Local In Queens and Culver Express (North of Church Avenue) in Brooklyn.
Both the V and Blue M would operate at 10 trains per hour, giving the Queens Blvd line 20 trains per hour like today. Both the 53rd Street and 63rd Street crossings would be operated at 25 trains per hour.
With that, the R would be taken off the Queens Blvd line. It would be rerouted back to Astoria-Ditmars, with the N moved to 96th Street with the Q. The R would also operate via the Fulton Street Local to Euclid Avenue, allowing the C train to be express between Hoyt and Euclid Avenues and replace A and S service to Rockaway Park. With the R running at 15 trains per hour, and the C running express at 10 trains per hour alongside the 15 tph A trains, the Fulton Street Line would have more frequent service.
Finally, to replace R service to 4th Avenue, the J/Z would be extended from Broad Street to Bay Ridge-95th Street. At 14 trains per hour, 4th Avenue Local service should be more frequent.
only epik people can remember the (N) To Forest Hills - 71st Continental Avenue.
