I was at this concert, opening act: A Flock of Seagulls. No concert has ever topped this great performance. I remember the cameras flying over our heads, and imagined how great that shot would be. The lights were so amazing, just as the sound. I had no one to take me, so I had to runaway and get to the concert on my own. I was 13. Getting back home at midnight was another story...
I went to this show in the UK. The lights, sound was unbelievable for the time. It’s still the best show I’ve been to. I was blown away by how good they were. Their songs have stood the test of time as well
I was at this concert! Front row. Del Mar Race Track in San Diego. Afterward the band went to our local club, Club Zu. I was chatting with a friend and braiding this woman in front of me's hair and she turned around and thanked me and it was Alannah!! Good times.
I was at this concert series, as a young soldier in the Army, stationed at ft Lewis, WA.....they were touring with OMD...absolutely blew the roof off of the Seattle Center Arena. One of the best concerts I ever went to. Will never forget it.
I went to see Thompson Twins but I’m sure it was in a different city, and different “acts” on the bill. TT’s act was the same, doing all their hits. The stage presence, look, and staging is exactly as i remember it in 1984. What was so amazing to me, even today, is that TT was the “opening” act for Culture Club with Boy George with Helen Terry doing thise vocals. What a night it was, and i don’t think people realized it at the time.
Thompson Twins’ TOM BAILEY to play Thompson Twins hits live for the first time in 27 years Howard Jones, Ultravox's Midge Ure, China Crisis and one more act to join Tom on his first tour since 1987! The long wait will soon be over! For nearly three decades fans of the Thompson Twins have been waiting for more live performances from one of the most iconic bands of the eighties. Now Tom Bailey, with a new band, will be touring and performing most of the big Thompson Twins hits in 2014. The first performance will be headlining the UK’s Henley Rewind festival on Sunday 17 August 2014. This will then be followed by an extensive tour of USA in August and September with Howard Jones, Midge Ure and China Crisis and one more act yet to be named. The Thompson Twins had huge hits on both sides of the Atlantic. Songs such as ‘Hold Me Now’, ‘Doctor Doctor’, ‘You Take Me Up’ and ‘Love On Your Side’ provided the soundtrack for so many people’s lives worldwide in the mid-eighties. In 1985 The Thompson Twins played ‘Hold Me Now’ at Live Aid in Philadelphia and also performed the Beatles ‘Revolution’ with Madonna. Says Tom: “This will be the first time I’ve sung the TT’s hits in decades. It’s taken a long time, but now I’m really looking forward to playing those songs to some of the fans that were there first time around.” Formed in 1977, the original Thompson Twins trimmed down their line-up in 1982 to a three piece of Bailey, Alannah Currie and Joe Leeway as they adopted a more electronic synthesizer based sonic line-up. Tom Bailey was the singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and, along with lyricist Alannah Currie, composed and arranged the Thompson Twins music. The Thompson Twins also enjoyed big success on the US dance chart with ‘Lies”, ‘In the Name of Love’ and ‘Hold Me Now’ all reaching the No 1. In 1988 they had another No 1 dance chart hit in the US with ‘In the Name of Love 88”. The last Thompson Twins show was in Texas in August 1987 and the band finally broke up in 1993. Since then Bailey has worked in many different areas of music, from the experimental electronic Babble and Kolab to the Indo-fusion of the Holiwater Band, the visual astronomy project BSP and the sound-system dub of International Observer. The music and videos of the Thompson Twins became a fixture on hit radio and music television throughout the eighties. Tom Bailey will at last be bringing those songs which meant so much to so many, back live in 2014.
I just wanted to say them(band) Thank you soo much for created this opportunite to apreciate those songs, which can overturn our day in a better day! THANK YOU!
@RaunchyRocker They were VERY big here in the states back then-I saw them a few times and they sounded gr8! They had quite a few hits that were huge for them here! TTs were very 80's in every way! LOL! Those 80's were some awesome times and I wish I could re-live it all again and feel very fortunate to have experienced the 80's scene during my youth :) Fun times indeed! ;)
Wish I had been old enough to go to one of their shows back then. Seriously my favorite band growing up. The 80's had the best music! What happened to talent??? Pure garbage these days. Embarrassing as fuuuuuuu
Not sure if you know this but the lead singer ,Tom Bailey , is back singing all the hits. He did Retrofutura tour with Howard Jones last year and he might go on tour again in the US. I loved them back then and still listen to their music today. Great group and Tom is a great musician imo.
+NewWave Girl here on you tube there are videos from the last 3 years with Tom on stage. I couldn´believe it how he look now and how his voice sounds now, after 30 years. For me, his voice has lost a lot opf power.
+Carolin Cleve Well, he is in his sixties, can't really expect him to have the same vocal range thirty years ago. Also, doesn't he look more like a professor now? lol
I loved the Thompson Twins and I never got to see them live. This is amazing. Though I have to ask: is Joe Leeway really playing keyboards? It kind of looks like he's just hitting random keys.
MTV vidcheck January 8 , 1984 #29 - 15:25 MTV CLASSIC???? Cable channel should be THEN & NOW show old videos and new projects from the older bands , AND today's stuff . SAME FORMAT as MTV 1981-1992
I have mixed feelings about this. It feels a little too sterile in places, almost to the point at which it seems like they’re lip-syncing. There’s one point around the seven-minute mark at which Joe’s hands don’t seem to be touching the actual keys. But it sounds good, and it’s an impressive stage show.

Lucky. I am jealous.

Wowww that's amazing!!!

What I wouldn't give to have been in that crowd that evening. What an amazing performance. I miss concerts ❤
What I would give to back to that era and never come back. I miss those easy, peaceful days.
And they were very big here. They reached No. 3 in the US on the Billboard charts in 1983 with "Hold me Now"
i had no idea how good they were live until i saw this
Eran tan diferentes y vanguardistas como la mayoría de los iconos de los 80s. Extraño ese estilo de música y forma inusual de vestir.
How I envy anyone who has experienced them live!!
Thx!

I love the live version.
Truly an amazing band. They were incredible. Doctor Doctor is my favorite. I wish they would reunite.
What a great Performance! Love it!! 80s are legendary
Que belleza! Superbanda! recuerdos... hasta las lágrimas... WOW!
Creative pop music at its finest. It all stems from that art school background.Nothing in the charts these days gets near these bands
Excellent !!!

what a darn band they were wow
Cool! Thompson Twins eran muy vanguardistas tanto musicalmente como visualmente con su propuesta de imagen
OUTSTANDING.
On drums is probably Boris Wiliams, ex The Cure
Aljoša Pinterič hahahaha, we love boris!!! :3
i think Roger maybe up back there too, not sure. he's said he hated touring with them because they didn't drink
Brilliant

why do I find Alannah so adorable
In a strange way, yes,
Tom Bailey so cute!
Lies and Doctor Doctor belong to my DNA :)

I know what's missing from this... it's cowbell.. I need more cowbell...
His cowbell ruins the first few minutes tbh

bueno el audio malo, pero el esfuerzo vale , gracias por compartirlo!!
7:25 yeah I felt something was off, definitely playback :(
This sound is terrible, you recorded it through a closed door?
It was probably ripped from a VHS tape. ;-)

Don't you have this show in stereo?. The drums sounds distant including the guitars and keyboards
I know its on laserdisc.
01:00
LOL! Yeah, gotta have more cowbell!
need more cowbell!!!
=================
Could use more cowbell.
I was there dude and they didn’t sing on play back
v=JMzYI04KFs4#t=57m50s
Enjoy!
Nice song, but I bet the 80s people wish they had found blues instead
Is that black guy really wearing a pearl necklace ? Oy vey.
