I worked for six years in the colorado state pen as a mental health clinician and it was very similar (it's all changed up now from the time I was there, much softer). single cells, double escort anytime you're out of the cell; all visiting, mental health, and medical done through the door or between glass in visiting (unless you needed surgery -- I've got a good story about one of my clients related to this). No outside yard, you just go to another bigger cell. an entire joint of solitary basically. Homies used to do amazing toilet paper art. I knew guys who could do burpees for an hour just to keep busy and not lose their minds. People learned chess in depth because you could only see your side of the board and have to call out your move to the other player across the pod.

Twelve years before the OJ Simpson verdict in 1994, Alan Dershowitz in his book, The Best Defense (1982), chronicled the key rules of the justice game: Rule I: Almost all criminal defendants are, in fact, guilty. Rule II: All criminal defense lawyers, prosecutors and judges understand and believe Rule I. Rule III: It is easier to convict guilty defendants by violating the Constitution than by complying with it, and in some cases it is impossible to convict guilty defendants without violating the Constitution. Rule IV: Almost all police lie about whether they violated the Constitution in order to convict guilty defendants. Rule V: All prosecutors, judges, and defense attorneys are aware of Rule IV. Rule VI: Many prosecutors implicitly encourage police to lie about whether they violated the Constitution in order to convict guilty defendants. Rule VII: All judges are aware of Rule VI. Rule VIII: Most trial judges pretend to believe police officers who they know are lying. Rule IX: All appellate judges are aware of Rule VIII, yet many pretend to believe the trial judges who pretend to believe the lying police officers. Rule X: Most judges disbelieve defendants about whether their constitutional rights have been violated, even if they are telling the truth. Rule XI: Most judges and prosecutors would not knowingly convict a defendant who they believe to be innocent of the crime charged (or a closely related crime). Rule XII: Rule XI does not apply to members of organized crime, drug dealers, career criminals, or potential informers. Rule XIII: Nobody really wants justice.
1 Alan M. Dershowitz, The Best Defense (New York: Random House, 1982), xxi-xxii. We gratefully acknowledgement Random House for permission to reprint. Copyright OUP 2013 But, justice is all that the public is allowed to seek, legally, unless they want to find themselves subject to these 13 rules. What it all boils down to, is the people that we promote for law enforcement at the street level, have the ability to place anyone they choose on the conveyor belt of American justice. And the constitution be damned. Online criminal justice degrees are cheap, convenient and heavily discounted to armed services veterans. Once again, the wrong people are Law and order proponents point to the fact that we all can hire a lawyer of our choice and defend ourselves. What’s the problem? It’s not the laws themselves (theses truths that we find self evident), but the their application (the judges) that void our civil rights. Just about anybody (everybody?) that needs legal representation can’t afford it. My bail for leaving my mother’s house messy during construction was over $200,000. That’s a $20,000 (10% bond premium) fine, just for getting arrested. You can’t get that back, even with a not guilty verdict. That money would come in handy for an attorney retainer. Try hiring a lawyer with no money or property assets - you get what you pay for. There is a tremendous difference between ambitious lawyer and a compassionate sociologist working within the government welfare system. There are no compassionate attorneys that will work for nothing. The public defenders are absolutely worthless, they don’t even function as reliable messengers of the DAs office. I could not get my public defenders to even let me see the charges leveled against me in two felony trials.
@@allpraisestothemosthigh9418 yea miami jail was ranked worst jail in America at one point. The crazy thing is when regular people get locked up there. Like a regular square getting arrested for fishing without a license and being like maaaan get them out of here because it's not going to be good for them. They just put anyone with anybody in there. It ain't right
Glad you survived and made it out. I have seen someone that was once an inmate at a meeting. It's a nightmare I am sure as is all the rest, the devil's playground.
Big salute 🫡 to Dubz , Imagine if they allowed books for engineering or physics , or anything for learning , those guys in the SHU , could probably design a space ship , real talk , the waste of talent is tragic .
Man, I remember how u would get dizzy when u walked the corridor on ur way to medical, committee, or visit. Cause ur eyes weren't used to seeing far anymore. It's crazy...
Allot of people don't know the difference between jail and prison . It has never been a part of most people's life , or I should say many people's life so it has no bearing . I was not so lucky but that's on me 😊
You explained exactly how I've tried to for decades when I try to explain when a riot is about to kickoff in CDC- its like electricity in the air. You have to experience it to understand
I just got out of lock down in 915. Here it's about respect and respecting veteranos and understanding that that's their home your just a guest. "Dale shine" no responde no yes sir, it's implicit that you fly as an eagle and make the veteranos proud of what you learned by watching them. They fought the front lines and understanding that no matter how hard you try you can never sacrifice as hard as they did never. Any car any gang we are one united against the pussyfooted that smirks when you can't figure out how to call your lawyer. There is power in respect. Numbers....the 4th book of Moses. We all get stuck in the 3rd act Leviticus...Moses meant that as comic relief.
I think what he meant was that in those days if you were a validated gang member, You were gonna stay in solitary confinement indefinitely. A lawsuit happened and they can’t do that anymore so they let all validated inmates out. It’s still open and they still have the shu it just can’t be a permanent stay.
ADX is similar they say. No cellies there though. Just a quick question if you may speak on this some time. It's been mentioned that in the SHU you locked in your cell most of the day and you get a short one hour yard/shower. So then how do enemies get at each other. If someone makes too much noise on the pod let's assume, how is this handled? Thanks for the content
He said in another video that they shoot spears through the doors. They have holes on the metal doors. He also said that back in the day they got yard time but only one person in the cell could go at a time so they took turns.
I lived in the town where that prison is located I could see the yard lights for miles but where I lived there was just a space of woods between the prison and my home...crazy shit I'm happy you made it out cause the shu is no joke bro...
Yes we have that here too in Texas and you had to learn fast and get what you need to protect yourself and we used the toilets to communicate to each other by draining all the water
Kid from crescent city, Brookings, smith river area my mind was always blown that this place was a stones throw away. Lots of friends parents worked there and had crazy stories
My bf just found out he’s being transferred to Pelican Bay from reception. I started doing my research to learn more and I’m so glad I came across your video. Thank you for sharing and enlightening me.
I like these stories call me negative but I enjoy hearing these stories . It's good to hear the bad . As I was telling Beaver when he did his interview on La Negras Podcast alot of people wanna tell legends and embellish a little
Been there. All facts. I paroled from A-Yard in 2019. I was in SHU as well for 2 years c-10 c-8 c-4...and I did my last 3½ years on Ayard until like I said paroled 2019
I HAVE WATCHED AND LIKED A TON OF YOUR VIDEOS COULD YOU PLEASE TALK ABOUT ANY TRAINING PROGRAMS THEY HAD IF ANY I THINK I REMEMBER YOU SAYING ONCE THERE WAS NOT REALLY ANY AVAILABLE IN YOUR SITUATION. THANKS FOR ANY REPLY IF YOU HAVE TIME
Buenos dias, Respetos de siempre ✌🏻😎 Just wanted to concur on the humor of the good old “How Pelican Bay is” line. I remember being told that same story when I was New Folsom Ad/Seg waiting on the chain about the mail, showers etc. I arrived in February of ‘91 and four years later we had received another bus load like they used to do every week. These youngsters pulled up in our pod in C-10 one evening and I was the tier tender but I didn’t come out the following morning because maintenance were supposed to come fix the ceiling lights that morning. They came in right after tray pick up and they had the motorized lift. It was apparent that these youngsters went back to their bunks because when the lift came in of course it sounded mechanical and then we heard in Spanish and in a panic like voice:” Get up! Here comes the showers!” And you know how it echoes in the pods, right? And the youngster that spoke did try not to be heard but the entire pod broke out in laughter! We had a blast with them throughout the day with that. In fact the Camarada that had told me that same fib ended up landing in the cell right next to me a year after I left him at Folsom. I thought I’d share this little memory with you and your subscribers. You have a great and blessed day, Sigue Adelante! Con Respetos Siempre 🙏🏽✌🏻😎✊🏼🇲🇽☝🏻Q-Vo!😉
Man I don't know about other places in the U.S. but I've been in some of our roughest jails in different states in Australia and 1 stabbing would be enough to close the yard. It never ceases to amaze me that this country that puts out all this propaganda about democracy and freedom can have so little compassion for segments of their own population. I had a little chuckle when you talk about how annoying this dude is because when you're locked down with someone for a long time it's like a kind of madness can set in and you can start getting annoyed to the point of serious anger over the stupidist stuff. It seems to be universal that where the real heavy people are people have the most respect. People turn the T.V down after a certain time, use manners, look after each other. It's interesting listening to you share your experiences and comparing what is the same about how people behave in different places, I guess it's weird, even though California is obviously a heavier version of what I went through I can relate to a lot of the things you talk about in a way that I could never expect a lot of people to understand, anyway lost track of whatever I wanted to say but love hearing your insights, take care bro
Dubs, if you don’t mind me asking. If you were to get sent back, would your homies be upset with you for this whole UA-cam gig you got going? I know you haven’t been specific about what not and what not but honesty, would you be worried?
Its a trip how you mention paso robles thats where im from yo and i live out by that youth center ive known of a few attempted escapes that place though looked so miserabke tiny little buildings just dirt for days and hot in the summer
In Florida we had, Florida State Prison(FSP), and Union Correctional Institution (UCI). UCI has since been torn down, i believe. But, those two prisons were different. I transported dudes to UCI numerous times. Been down to death row twice at FSP. Back in the day, those two places were where the convicts were at, unless, they were programming, getting short to the house, or had some sort of akill that was needed at another institution.
Back in the day saltpeter was added, kept you limp and sleepy, after breakfast everyone nabbed. Now I can imagine what ingredients are mix in dinner.its not called institutional food.
Pelican Bay blue print came from a new prison in New Mexico in the 80’s. CDC sent a group of the planning and construction with custody staff to New Mexico. We opened in Nov 03 1989. I hit the five yards, A,B,C,D and E I was there for only about three years but going to other joints, CTF, PVSP, SVSP and agian at CTF. I like you the way you explain yourself. NO BULLSHIT. I got to know the heavies from all makes and models.
@@Dubsv Just dug through your videos and found some. Nice to finally hear some of the background to the story. Looked like the blacks were taken completly by surprise, ive tried following some of them in the footage, ends badly for just about all of them, especially the one guy with the dreads chased off the court onto the grass. Know their all real people, and not trying to diminsh anyones worth, but holy fuck is that video is intense and addictive once you watch it trying to see who makes it out on their feet. Those black dudes at the end stood their ground well considering the circumstance. Cheers for the content! new subscriber for sure
I don’t think the blacks were caught off guard. Well, at least they shouldn’t have been. That thing was ongoing, as far as discussions for about 3 months. The tension was there.

Twelve years before the OJ Simpson verdict in 1994, Alan Dershowitz in his book, The Best Defense (1982), chronicled the key rules of the justice game:
Rule I: Almost all criminal defendants are, in fact, guilty.

But, justice is all that the public is allowed to seek, legally, unless they want to find themselves subject to these 13 rules. What it all boils down to, is the people that we promote for law enforcement at the street level, have the ability to place anyone they choose on the conveyor belt of American justice. And the constitution be damned.
Online criminal justice degrees are cheap, convenient and heavily discounted to armed services veterans. Once again, the wrong people are
Law and order proponents point to the fact that we all can hire a lawyer of our choice and defend ourselves.
Damn he wrote that book damn
I think L.A. County Jail has to be one of the most violent jails in the U.S.. California DOC seems very rough.
I heard L.A.County, Cook County(Chicago) Rikers Island(NYC) and I currently forgot the one in Miami are the worst jails in the US
@@allpraisestothemosthigh9418 yea miami jail was ranked worst jail in America at one point.
Aye dubs 😂😂 no disrespect intended but how you did that guy when he was in awe was savage !! I bet you tell kids Santa isn’t real
Man, I remember how u would get dizzy when u walked the corridor on ur way to medical, committee, or visit. Cause ur eyes weren't used to seeing far anymore. It's crazy...
I remember that on the mini yard getting kinda dizzy ..i just thougt it was cuz the elevation change..took a min to get used to it..this was 2001
Allot of people don't know the difference between jail and prison . It has never been a part of most people's life , or I should say many people's life so it has no bearing . I was not so lucky but that's on me
😊
Dubs prison stories are just on a different level 🔥
When I was in prison ese there was no bay I was in prison in the 80s I’m an OG you vatos are the Snapple generation
That comment wouldn’t come out of an OGs mouth homie.
I didnt know PB way shut down. Thank you for sharing your life lessons with us all.
It's not
I think what he meant was that in those days if you were a validated gang member, You were gonna stay in solitary confinement indefinitely. A lawsuit happened and they can’t do that anymore so they let all validated inmates out. It’s still open and they still have the shu it just can’t be a permanent stay.
@@Anykindahandle thank you for explaining 💞
ADX is similar they say. No cellies there though. Just a quick question if you may speak on this some time. It's been mentioned that in the SHU you locked in your cell most of the day and you get a short one hour yard/shower. So then how do enemies get at each other. If someone makes too much noise on the pod let's assume, how is this handled? Thanks for the content
Theeeeeee raaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiioodaaaaaaaas! I'm sorry lobatos but it's our turn this year. Any takers.
@@KoolAF I had surenos shoot me care packages in the bay level 4 b yard went to shu for a bit it's love until the door cracks
ADX is the worst prison in the US.
Nothing is like ADX
Thank you for sharing
🏆🙏🤗🇺🇲
Thank you great info and real perspective on the things that go on in there. Besides all the politics
Good Bless You.
I was there in 1991 I’m glad I started my time there
My bf just found out he’s being transferred to Pelican Bay from reception. I started doing my research to learn more and I’m so glad I came across your video. Thank you for sharing and enlightening me.

One of my most memorable moments as a kid was going to Crescent City to visit a relative there. It was like a different world. Its damn near in Oregon
In 1990-92 we called it, "The tip of the world".
Did you ever run into boxer from up north?
Damn Dubs, you make me appreciate freedom. That was one cold place. Literally. Thanks for sharing this one.
@dubs would you consider doing a video on when you found out that you were going to get out ?
You should write a book
Short and simple
With pictures of the facilities etc ..
Thank you for your hard work
yo dubs were you ever at the bay with monster kody from 8trey? RIP. what legends were you there with? much love.
Good Video DUBS 🗣️
Back in the day saltpeter was added, kept you limp and sleepy, after breakfast everyone nabbed. Now I can imagine what ingredients are mix in dinner.its not called institutional food.
God bless sir.
Glad you landed safely 🙏🤟
I bet there was some badass artwork being created in those shu cells
Pelican Bay blue print came from a new prison in New Mexico in the 80’s. CDC sent a group of the planning and construction with custody staff to New Mexico. We opened in Nov 03 1989. I hit the five yards, A,B,C,D and E I was there for only about three years but going to other joints, CTF, PVSP, SVSP and agian at CTF. I like you the way you explain yourself. NO BULLSHIT. I got to know the heavies from all makes and models.
Was the MMA fighter Warpath a corrections officer when you were there? Ruben Villarreal.
Good video. The Bay was a different pen for sure.
My Prison's Library had an amazing Collection
Lol you can build one of those at home.
Were you there during the riot 2000? Would love to hear some stories from that! That shit would get alot of views
I was there, and I have spoke on it
@@Dubsv Just dug through your videos and found some.
@@DubsvI’m black and I know there’s no such thing as off guard. Element of surprise is an advantage even if they was caught off guard .
