I wasn't sure on getting the zx25r as my first bike at first but after watching this vid I was like... Ehh why not? Thanks for this video it helped me a lot cuz I was also overthinking about what bike I should buy 😂
I overthink my past a lot and a buddy gave me good advice two days ago “ there’s a reason the rear view mirror is much smaller than the windshield.” Moral of the story is your fucked if you ride a bike 😂😂
My advice is: just choose a motorcycle that you like a lot and commit to it. I wasted too much time worrying about stuff that in the end didn't really matter. Ended up buying a cheapo chinese 200cc dual sport and i freaking love it and if you ask an expert they could probably list how many things sucks about my bike, but here's the thing, i don't care, the thing works and it makes me happy. Just buy bike that works and that is nice for your budget and have fun
@@yammienoob knew from the moment I saw the kawi z400 that was the bike I wanted, first model year in 19 was what I ended up, the dealership was trying to get me to go with the “used” R3 with 100 miles to save me money, but I knew exactly what I wanted. Just clocked 10k miles in a year and a half since I bought it.
I bought a Chinese bike for work...Everyone told me it was a mistake and to get an E-Bike...I have literally almost doubled my income. Its a tank...and I ride her rough in all weathers 9hrs a day, 5 days a week. When I do get a second bigger bike...I will be able to really ride it hard.
I want to do this but I have to buy new because it’s a new bike and I’m afraid of dropping it while learning, I wish I had a beater to spend a week or 2 to learn on
You really nailed it describing being a new rider. I'm 52 and finally took the MSF and got my endorsement and am LOVING IT. At the risk of being sappy, Yammie you have been a critical part of my journey and I appreciate all the great content.
Easier than a Turbo Busa I mean, it has all kind of gadgets that help people who shouldn't ever be on a bike anyway, be able to get on that bike anyway It's like the Paralympics for riders
Motorcycles are like significant others. Your first will be selected mostly based on convenience of access. All of the motorcycles in your past did something you remember fondly, and something that irritated you. Newness is a really fun phase, followed by a growing desire to improve, and then upgrade. None of them are perfect, all are fun.
Convenience and access? A coworker of mine had a 2004 Suzuki VZ800 at a price point i had available on the spot. Been wanting a bike since 2006 and bought it with cash this week. I know it's probably a bit big but it is what it is, i'm just gonna swing a leg over and enjoy it
Yep. That's me. It's called Paralysis by Analysis! I started looking 30 years ago and at age 55, just bought a 30mph electric bike. Don't wait that long - just do it. Now!
Nothing wrong with electric. I built a 38 mph tops 48v 1000 watt hub motor ebike 11 years ago. I used 4 12v sla batteries. I got tired of buying new batteries so instead of buying a 700 dollar lithium battery from China I bought a 150cc scooter. It has a CVT automatic transmission, better range, power and is way faster to fuel up instead of charging batteries for 5 hours. If the ebike is all you need stick with it. I suggest you try out some small engines from 50cc to 125 to 150 up before deciding on a gas bike if you want to upgrade.
Small displacement dual sports are some of the most versatile bikes and they make great urban commuter bikes. Pot holes and speed bumps are no problem. A flight of concrete steps are no problem! Light and maneuverable, great fuel economy, cheap and easy to maintain and low cost insurance.
I'm 18 and I totally can relate to this, I haven't bought my first bike but am totally excited to be able to soon get into riding. GREAT content papa Yam
Holy shit. This was literally my issue for the past month and finding this video is actually scary because he hit ALL the points that i was overthinking. I've never been on a bike much less sat on one, so i kept jumping around from a r3/mt03, to a ninja 300, to a ninja 400, to a sv650, to a cbr300r, and even a gsx250r. But this video helped a lot
I agree, just do it. You will not regret it. Just take it easy, slow, and practice. It's easier than one may think. Ninja 400 is a great bike and great for beginner riders.
I'm on the stage where I'm going to buy a bike tomorrow, and the stress is killing me but the video made me feel so much better. Thanks Papa Yam for your lessons
I remember when I was 18 I was looking everyday online at different bikes I wanted. I ended up on a 86 honda 250 and rode the piss out of it. As long as your riding that's what matters
I bought my ninja 400 brand new in 2018 for my first bike. Here I am 3 years later and I still absolutely love my bike. I did a whole bunch of mods to it and I laugh everytime people say you will be tired of it or out grow it in a couple of months. I still have just as much fun if not more because I am getting better at riding as time progresses. Maybe one day I'll get a bigger bike but I guarantee I will keep my ninja 400 for life. This bike is not only for beginner's but also can be made into an amazing track bike so just keep that on mind.
Another good reason to buy a good used bike as a beginner - there's a good chance that you are only going to figure out what you might like once you start riding. And it might take a few bikes to find the one you really like.
And you'll probably drop it. Get something cheap you don't care too much about scratching up - or in many cases comes pre-scratched, thus you don't care at all. This is even more the case if you're concerned about money - don't save up for the dream bike, just buy whatever you can afford right now.
I overthinked for 4 months before I got my first bike, I ultimately decided on the MT03. I don't do much highway riding so the MT03 has an insane amount of torque for what it is, a little 321cc bike. I get to zoom around town, still somehow manage to hit 80mph without realizing it.
I passed on a 2019 ninja 400 for a 2003 250cc Honda Reflex scooter. Couldn't be happier. Still planning at getting a motorcycle but for now I'm just happy on two wheels.
All jokes aside, scooters are very practical urban commuter vehicles. I have a friend who has been riding longer than Yammie, Spite, Josh and Whitney, combined, and all he rides is larger scooters. I've been riding longer than my friend, and I finally moved up from 250-350cc dual sport bikes and bought a G310GS baby adventure bike. I give a biker wave to the scooter guys and they seem surprised. 😀
I've been riding for a while. Have had both scooters and motorcycles in the past and will in the future. I agree with Liberty4ever and the Reflex is a cool little scooter.
By all counts, at least legally, 250cc would make it a motorcycle, not a scooter - everywhere I've seen anything over 50cc is a motorcycle. But it's styled like a scooter and probably handles like one.
Fun is absolutely the key point. When I was learning on 125 dirt bikes all I wanted to do was to twist the wrist and go. No matter how old we get that's all we want in the end.
Yammie: Your first bike won't be your last bike.. Me: I been riding the wheels off this 2009 Honda Rebel for 6 years, and finally got some money saved to put towards a '21 Rebel 500 SE Yammie: Just get the bike Me: Hi, one 2021 Honda Rebel 500 SE please.... Every dealership within 100 miles: Sorry, bike shortage, hopefully in December we will get more.
@@josebercian4164 Make sure to take the MSF course - it is a must in order to learn how to ride safely. I spent 6 years on a Rebel 250, and it is a great bike, but I also now routine travel at 60-70 mph and that put a lot of strain on me (numbness from vibration) and the bike running it topped out along 60-65 mph speed limit stretches of road (the 250 tops out at 72-73 mph). I can't find an SE anywhere, but can pull the trigger on a white 500 ABS at my local dealership. I am playing with the numbers to see how bad it will set me back, but I don't like white and it is not dressed up like the SE either - so all extra money for wrapping the bike and the accessories to make it ready for daily use.
@@godwhomismike the only place that teaches the course near me is a harley dealership and getting gear and take the msf is priority before getting the bike. They train you on the harley street so hopefully they will be close enough in setup. Also, the dealer near me has to solid black 500s and a white one. Im going with the black one.
As someone who waited till 37 to get into motorcycling, you'll be astounded how fast even the MSF bike can feel as a beginner! I chose an FZ6R as my first due to a great price and it is stupid how fast it is. However as a seasoned adult and a safety nut, I have managed it well so far. I agree get what YOU think is cool cuz you're buying and riding it!! Ride safe all!
At least in my state a Great reason to choose and buy a bike before you take the MSF course is without a bike it will cost you 100 bucks. If you use your own bike it's only 25 bucks. Plus you'll learn the skills you need on the actual bike you will be riding.
Thank you man. In the same boat. I got the bug at 36 and after my 37th birthday next year I’m just gonna go ahead and take the msf and pull the trigger to start. Can’t wait to be a part of this community.
Yammie. Here's a life-saver for YOU: It's called - "THE TWO SECOND RULE" In dry/good conditions try to keep at least a 2 second gap from the vehicle in front - key to this is watching for the back of the vehicle in front crossing/passing a fixed marker ie. the different asphalt 0:21 & timing how long it takes for you to cross/pass that same place. > 0:22 You're way too close to the back end of something that looks like a small wall >I, it seriously impedes your view/options & if that thing had slowed suddenly, I don't know what you weigh but you faceplant that much metal & I'll wager they wouldn't even feel it. Saying "Only a fool breaks the two second rule" aloud takes around 2 seconds - now you know - Ride safe.
Ninja 400 makes similar power to an iron 883 and is half the weight. Unless you mean phew because you almost got suckered into a Harley in which case, yeah close call
Literally me. But it's because im young and dont even have a job or enough money for a bike. Instead i just sit here deciding which bike i want, which i won't buy for a while. Ive come to the conclusion that i will probably buy whatever bike i can get for the cheapest, and then an r7 or mt07 once i outgrow it and decide which style i like better.
I started on a 1980 Yamaha XJ650 that barely ran. Loved that little pos. 8 years later I'm on a 2018 Harley Davidson Street Glide and I couldn't be happier. For me the XJ just happened into my lap. My dad rode but I was never that in to motorcycling. Now I don't know what life is without a bike.
7:20 My first bike was a naked bike, because every youtuber was like "GeT A nAkEd bIKe hur dur, so MuCh bEtTer". I hate naked bikes, they dont give me any emotions, give me back pain ironically and are annoying as shit on the highway. Switched to a sportbike after a year and just then I started loving to ride and the bike. Dont let people talk you into a naked bike if you always wanted a sportsbike...
And vice versa haha, i think you should just find your budget, load up all the bikes that fit your budget, and whatever one gets you going the most, find a dealer and test it out, then buy it if its good for you. Or buy a busa, what do i know
It might be a waste of time I agree, but man when I searched for my first bike, it was an awesome research and I had just a great time reading magazine, watching UA-cam and reading reviews. The world was opening up to me. 🤘
im nearly 50. woke up a few weeks ago, booked my test, went out and bought an mt09 which is currently in the showroom all paid for waiting for me to tell them to deliver it. i didnt sweat the bike thing too much just wanted something i could grow into and looked dope. because this is my first bike ive got no reference points to compare it against so any choice is a good choice. it will just be a new motorbike and i will enjoy it no matter what it is. im sure over time ill want something more refined like a ducati or a triumph but i reckon ill get easily two years worth of being amazed by the 09.
Dear Papa Yam, thank you for making this video. That overthinking spreadsheet guy was me roughly a year ago and ended up with a second hand dual sport this January, which is my first motorcycle and have been in love with it ever since. If I can remember, I began to discover motorcycling and your channel about a year now. Stay awesome. Right now, I'm just getting after it.
Thanks for the vids, Yammie. I’m 28 and taking my exam for my motorcycle license in 2 months. It’s been a childhood dream. I’m forever going back and forward between the sv650 and mt-07 for my first bike and this vid actually helped a lot. I’m buying a brand new one since in Belgium, the prices don’t drop very much so i may as well buy a spanking new one and be sure it’s not abused. I’ve watched tons of your vids the past few weeks and love the channel. Officially subbed :D
If dealers allowed test rides we would just go ride stuff and pick the one we liked best. But they don't so we have no way to test ride anything so we have to research to death or possibly get stuck with a bike we hate.
I knew an old Harley guy who always used to say, "it doesn't matter what you ride, just ride." I had a Honda Rebel 250 as my first bike for a couple years, but I sold it a couple years ago for financial reasons. I promised myself I would get another bike when I finished paying off my car, and I had my heart set on a Honda Rebel 500. Now I have a better job and my car will be paid off in 2 more payments, so it's time to get back into riding; unfortunately, Honda Rebel 500s are hard to find right now, and the dealership sold the used one they had the day before I was able to go look at it. I was bummed because I didn't want to wait for another one to show up, and I didn't want to buy a brand new one because they're more expensive and I'm still a beginner rider. So, when the dealer showed me a 2016 Yamaha V Star 650 Custom with only 6k miles, I sat on it and debated if I should get it. I drove 15 minutes to another dealer to sit on a Rebel 500, and I wasn't as instantly in love as I thought I'd be. The V Star is more comfortable. It's heavier though, and I'm only 5'2" so that worried me, but the first time I was ever on a motorcycle was a 2002 V Star 650 my dad got when I was in 3rd grade, and they didn't change much between 2002 and 2016. I got to ride my dad's old V Star with my cousin a few years ago shortly after I got my Rebel 250, and I had a lot of fun on that old 650. So, I decided to go for the 2016 V Star 650. It's a great deal and it's available now, and if I don't love it after a couple years, then I can sell it and get a different bike. I wasted too much time agonizing over the Rebel 500 vs the V Star, mentally going over all the specs and the features the older bike is missing, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what I ride, I just need to get back on.
Papá Yam, i pulled the trigger today. I bought a 2003 Honda Shadow 600. I was worried about it being slow, but it's not. I mean it is, but it's fun. And that's all that matters. Thank you for the guidance for literally 2 years 😁👌✌🏼
Love it when Yammie gets serious… and this video was a long time coming!! I just bought my 3rd bike it’s a 2007 FZ6 and my previous two were a 2006 Ninja 250 and then a 2007 Ninja 650 and I’m still getting used to the i4 power curve. My point is that when I bought my first one all I did was look at Facebook posts and looked for a bike in my price range and went for it! The point is to get on two wheel and you will find your way down the line. Now after 3 bikes I know that I like sport bikes but not the supersport type that is super leaned over and also I do lots of highway riding so I need a front faring so that kind of rules out nakeds for me. And that’s it!! JUST GO FOR IT!!!!
I was like this for months. Finally decided to go big and go with Yamaha MT-07. Best decision I made! So happy I didn’t go with a 300 or 400 for first bike. 650 class was perfect to grow, mod and learn on.
My first bike, after a 20 year gap, was a Royal Enfield Continental GT650. Still got it, it's a brilliant bike and much better than the stat sheet would suggest. I also have a Kawasaki KSR110, a Husqvarna 701 SM, and I picked up a 1987 GPZ750 yesterday. All of them are brilliant bikes, and all great fun to ride.
Even though this was made 2 years ago, I feel like you've been listening to my internal conversations with myself lately lol! Looking at getting my first bike here pretty soon and have been torn between the rebel 500 and the ninja 400. After sitting on the two at a dealer yesterday, the seating position isn't TOO dissimilar. I'm more interested in cruisers but... But like you said in the video, I've spent so much time lately researching bikes. Lol
I agree with everything you said. Great feeling it was in the beginning of motorcycling. It consumed me and now all I do is think about it.... my lifestyle has changed and all of the adventures I've been on.... Love it.
I've found this channel roughly a month ago once I start to really look into getting myself a bike since I decided it would be cheaper than buying myself a car so this video literally almost completely fits my scenario so thank you for the help definitely taking this advice
For most of us, dreaming is a very important (and enjoyable) aspect of buying a bike. To Yammie's point, it doesn't really matter which bike you buy, but if you enjoy researching what you want, by all means, indulge yourself, and be glad bike manufacturers haven't managed to charge you for that enjoyment.
I finally purchase my first motorcycle 2 weeks ago and I love it ! I bought a 2021 Kawasaki Ninja 650 KRT ! An absolute gem and very confortable bike for the long ride !
I've taken dozens of kids in the last 40-50 years to their motorcycle driving test. The best bikes to take the test on are smaller bikes ( 175 - 250 cc ). In NYS you have to do 2 left turn circles , 2 right turn circles , and 2 figure eights without your feet touching the road. the trick is to do those circles in 2nd gear , the bike will jerk less than if it was in 1st gear.
In Louisiana you only have to do figure eights to pass the skills test. I'm gonna take mine on my 150cc scooter. I can't take an MSF course til next year cus they are already over for this year.
Thanks for this! I’m almost 30 and only drove 50cc scooters for few years in my life, I always wanted a speed bike, but I’m too scared to sit on 600cc or 1000cc, everyone told me since I have experience I should get at least 600cc because I’m mature enough to control the throttle, but honestly I don’t need such a big bike, especially not for a first manual, so I liked the Yamaha YZF R125 and I got a second hand one, never regreted it and has enough power for me to enjoy for few years! A lot of local forum users told me I’m an idiot, but I really don’t care and love my bike 😊
No yam us Europeans are not overthinking our first motorbike we gotta get a crappy 50cc then a 125cc for 2 yrs then we gotta decide what a2 bike to get
holy crap yammie this sounds exactly like me. i started out wanting a harley then went to a rebel, then went to a vulcan 900, vulcan s, back to the vulcan 900, mt07, trident, ninja 400, mt07 and finally settled down with a vulcan 900 custom
Hey from the UK, passed my full A license last month, got my payslip and pulled the trigger on a second hand honda cb650f. Picked it up on Friday, and have already covered 500 miles, I frickin love it, rode through torrential rain storms, lovely sunshine and everything inbetween. As you say yams, just swing a leg over, get out and ride.
Totally agree! I bought my first bike in 1979, a two-stroke Suzuki GT-250 from a guy in the barracks for $400. All the plastic pieces were faded and the seat was ripped, but I needed wheels. Man, I rode that thing all over the San Diego area with my girlfriend on the back a lot of the time and had a BLAST! Sold it to someone else for the same $400 a year and half later.
I already know what it's gonna be, but I have to wait at least 6 months or so until I can get my license, so I keep looking around anyway. (Thanks covid) But yeah the Honda cb650r will be my first bike after that we'll see. I'm a little older and generally not an aggressive driver, so I think I'll be okay. (And one of my local riding schools uses them as well)
Aggressive riding is really dangerous. Driving in traffic is the next most dangerous thing. Even after decades of riding I still have people make left turns in front of me with little room. If you don't like motorcycles, it is easy to ignore them. You do develop a "spidey-sense" for bad drivers. Keith Code's "Twist of the Wrist" is still an excellent introduction to technique. While there is physics behind much of his techniques, he totally ignores it. Since you have to accept it on faith, use what works.
Literally got my endorsement yesterday -- Rode a 240 mile trip on an old Ninja 500 through the passes in Montana and Idaho. Enjoyed every damn minute of it.
I mean I was gonna wait for the R7 to be my first bike... but you know what yam, you’ve convinced me, I’m gonna pull the trigger on two beat gxr-1000s and tie them together
So glad I watched this video. Everything papa yam said applies to me. I am going on a work trip for a couple months this winter and want to save some cash for my first bike when I get back.
me who buyed a ninja 300 as first bike on craiglist cause it looked cool, knowing absolutely nothing about bike to discover its one of the most reaserched, overthinked and ordinary beginner bike
I almost bought a sv650 for my first bike 5 years ago, I always wanted one, but the sale fell through. I found a FZ6 shortly after and I still have it and love it.
best thing about the Euro type of licence, you get onto a big bike straight away! still got my first bike, an Aprilia shiver 750gt, and I love it so much!
When you need your bike for daily driving (car insurence is just to expensive even at 21 years old and a clear record) so you can't really go for the sport bike, cafe racer or supermoto life.
Bike insurance is soooooo much cheaper. Comprehensive (and then some) on my zx14r is about the same as bare bones liability on my 93 s10 for the entire year. N ive been known to drive a little fast even
This is true even when switching bikes. Went from ridding gsxrs most of my life. At 40 and a hurt back picked up a 2014 jackpot cruiser . And it was like beginner bike mind all over again
As someone who just bought my first motorcycle last year, I'm happy I did some research. But ultimately seat time and practice is the most important. I got my license first then I researched bikes and got my Ninja 650 which I'm super happy with as a beginner bike thats suitable for highway riding too. I did a bit of research on gear but didn't contemplate too much. I knew I just needed something to get me on the bike and get some seat time while I learn
I feel that. Had to hunt around extensively, managed to get one about a month out, now about a week and a half away. Already got a bike and it is so ridiculously tempting to ride it a little bit.
I hate being that person you described at the beginning. The 18 year old who wants so badly to get a bike but just can’t afford it with my part-time pizza delivery job, with parents who hate the idea of it. It’s torture.
I'm 38 now and I'd like to start riding again but I haven't rode since I was about 19 should I just forget about it? Am I having a mid-life crisis? I really feel riding again would take alot of stress away.
@@fidomatters Yep! I spent $2,500 on a used DL1000. If I don't end up wanting to ride as much as I used to, no biggie. So far so good though :) Motorcycling feels very rewarding, so many different skills to master.
Thanks for the advice man. I’m in exactly the same situation that you described, and it’s great that you made a vid like this. P.s. I plan on getting a monkey or grom as my first bike. It’s in my budget and I live in a major city, do you think those would be good options?
Yamster... Been watching you for like 2 years. And today i finally got my first bike. Its not a Busa But ill get there. Thanks for keeping me so excited
Wear your gear guys. 42 mph plus pothole i didn't see now I'm down 3 limbs for 2 months, too top it off i was 2 minutes from home.rode this route many times, New pothole be safe my dudes Edit. Was wearing helmet, firehose pants and light riding jacket
I just recently bought a 2018 Honda cb300F as my first bike! Got to test ride it and it was very confidence inspiring! Now I’m just getting it shipped to me within the week!
I'm 37, about 6'3 and still fit (since most of my life I played soccer), recently subscribed to your channel. I'm studying and watching all sort of videos on UA-cam about sports bike. Eventually in a year or year and a half I will get my license and buy a Ninja Kawasaki (probably 400 cc). I was interested in bikes since I was younger but I didn't have the resources for it. Nowadays I can do it, but I definitely will do it because I just want to ride more freely (not competing at all, because I value my life) just to have a means for work transportation and fun times. Good vibes here from San Francisco, California.
I already know I want a Kawasaki Ninja. That has been set in stone from the day I decided I wanted to ride a bike. I am not open to ahve discussions about it and I'm not considering any other options. The thing is however, I don't want to unalive myself by getting a bike that is too powerful for me as a beginner. So I want the right Ninja for me. Hence why I watch these videos.
I started on a ninja 650 and honestly now affer riding for a while its much more than enough for anyone. Zero reason you need more than a 3.5 0-60. Can literally get to highway speeds in under 4 seconds. Any reall 600+ is absolutely overkill and they are really easy to die on
I've been riding the cb500f for 3 years now. If you want a bike which is enough for everything and are not planning on racing 600' or 1000' on the highway you'll be very happy with the thing. I recommend getting a not too loud muffler, like the Mivv GP (got mine new for ~280€). I can't speak for the cbr itself, but my cbf has been the greatest thing ever. Never had electronical or mechenical issues, pretty fuel efficient. With the Mivv the bike does some amazing grugles going off the gas.
Me somewhat overthinking brought myself to this UA-cam channel. Great content btw. Came for the info for a beginner bike I can flat foot staying for the kick ass videos
My first bike was a 1982 Yamaha Seca 650 Turbo. Go to Demo Days. Throw your leg over bikes at dealerships. If you have your first bike look for group rides. Go to bike events. Do Poker Runs, charity rides, etc. You meet people and you learn!
My first "motorcycle" was in fact a mo-ped. Basically a tiny wannabe motorcycle. I rode it all over Carmel CA. This was a very long time ago. Over the decades I have progressively gained skill. I owned every flagship Kawasaki from the 500 H1 and 750 H2 to the ZX11 to the ZX10 and ZX14. I owned Harley-Davidsons, my last motorcycle was a trike because with age comes a nod to something you don't have to pick up off the ground if it falls over. I've seen quite a few squids and no few of them ended up in accidents. But I'd seen predominately good motorcyclists who would help a fellow biker. I was on the road full time from 2014 to 2019, camping every night. Went to a lot of rallies, saw most of the country. Met a lot of really cool people. I have little tolerance for motorcycle showboats or show-offs.
Wanted to buy a motorcycle senior year of HS but I didn’t have a car yet so I did that first. After 10 years of wanting a bike and 7 years of specifically wanting a Gen 2 sv650 I found a unicorn and finally made my motorcycle purchase 2 weeks ago. I have my msf the first week of June and I’ve been practicing around the neighborhood. I’ve spent all these years researching and learning it feels great to get into the lifestyle. For anyone that’s on the fence but hasn’t pulled the trigger yet: Get the bike and figure out the small stuff as you go, everything is going to work out! I shouldn’t have waited so long but I’m happy to finally be on two wheels!

I did the same thing. Wound up getting the hawk 250 efi. Excellent first bike, and fun to upgrade as well. 👍

Words of Wisdom!!
@@southboundeightyone4958 Thanks. Being old has its upside...
Couldn't have put it better. Well said David.
Convenience and access? A coworker of mine had a 2004 Suzuki VZ800 at a price point i had available on the spot. Been wanting a bike since 2006 and bought it with cash this week. I know it's probably a bit big but it is what it is, i'm just gonna swing a leg over and enjoy it
Upgrading one’s significant other too many times can cause troubles that make motorcycles unaffordable.
Yep.
I was this guys, countless hours on used motorcycles sites, and it was wonderful
@@Liberty4Ever I wave to them to
I've been riding for a while.
Scooters are great first bikes .
Fun is absolutely the key point. When I was learning on 125 dirt bikes all I wanted to do was to twist the wrist and go. No matter how old we get that's all we want in the end.
But twist the wrist on a 125 is essential, otherwise you won't be going anywhere
Yammie: Your first bike won't be your last bike..
Me: I been riding the wheels off this 2009 Honda Rebel for 6 years, and finally got some money saved to put towards a '21 Rebel 500 SE
Yammie: Just get the bike
Me: Hi, one 2021 Honda Rebel 500 SE please....
Every dealership within 100 miles: Sorry, bike shortage, hopefully in December we will get more.
I'm trying to find a good first bike for myself. going through the training course in 1 month on the dot. this is exactly the wall I'm running into.
you are lucky that the only 8k bike on your country is an 100cc honda moped or a 150cc yamaha or an 160 crf wannabe
So I've been saving up. I'm set on the 2021 rebel 500 as my first bike. Going to be taking the course soon but for now I'm just steadily getting gear.
I went with a Grom for my MSF bike. It is a funny little thing but even still can go fast when you're just starting out.
you're a safety nut, but chose motorcycling? lmao i got some news for you
It's increasingly difficult to stay responsible once you get used to the bike. I remember being scared to go over 70mph, now 70 is low speed to me....
Yammie.
Here's a life-saver for YOU:
It's called - "THE TWO SECOND RULE"
In dry/good conditions try to keep at least a 2 second gap from the vehicle in front - key to this is watching for the back of the vehicle in front crossing/passing a fixed marker ie. the different asphalt 0:21 & timing how long it takes for you to cross/pass that same place.
> 0:22
You're way too close to the back end of something that looks like a small wall >I, it seriously impedes your view/options & if that thing had slowed suddenly, I don't know what you weigh but you faceplant that much metal & I'll wager they wouldn't even feel it.
Saying "Only a fool breaks the two second rule" aloud takes around 2 seconds - now you know - Ride safe.

A MASSIVE thing for me too is go sit on some. When I was looking at bikes I got like 5 or 6 of my favorite and then went and sat on them all.
I knew an old Harley guy who always used to say, "it doesn't matter what you ride, just ride."
I had a Honda Rebel 250 as my first bike for a couple years, but I sold it a couple years ago for financial reasons.

Great tip! Ride safe and i hope you get to introduce more people to yhe world of riding

(Thanks covid)
But yeah the Honda cb650r will be my first bike after that we'll see.

I'm 38 now and I'd like to start riding again but I haven't rode since I was about 19 should I just forget about it? Am I having a mid-life crisis? I really feel riding again would take alot of stress away.
I rode in my 20s, just started riding again at 45.
If you're worried, buy a used bike that won't lose its value. Have fun, dont stress over it.
@@fidomatters Yep! I spent $2,500 on a used DL1000. If I don't end up wanting to ride as much as I used to, no biggie. So far so good though :) Motorcycling feels very rewarding, so many different skills to master.
My first bike was a Ducati monster 900 and I never regret getting it
Was it too much or did you learn fundamentals on it
Ah, so XSR 900 it is then >:D
YES
I’m just into motorcycling for the nostalgia.
I love old FZR’s and Ninjas 🥷
Thanks for the advice man. I’m in exactly the same situation that you described, and it’s great that you made a vid like this.
P.s. I plan on getting a monkey or grom as my first bike. It’s in my budget and I live in a major city, do you think those would be good options?
Yamster... Been watching you for like 2 years. And today i finally got my first bike. Its not a Busa But ill get there. Thanks for keeping me so excited
Wear your gear guys. 42 mph plus pothole i didn't see now I'm down 3 limbs for 2 months, too top it off i was 2 minutes from home.rode this route many times, New pothole be safe my dudes

Did the gear not work? Hoping for a speedy recovery.

I know you may not believe it, but you’re doing god’s work.
….bless-ed be lord Rossi.
I started on a ninja 650 and honestly now affer riding for a while its much more than enough for anyone. Zero reason you need more than a 3.5 0-60. Can literally get to highway speeds in under 4 seconds.
Any reall 600+ is absolutely overkill and they are really easy to die on
Me: obsessing over the cbr500r after hours of research for my first bike, about to buy it.
Yam: I’ve had fun on all bikes except the cbr500r
😐
I've been riding the cb500f for 3 years now.
If you want a bike which is enough for everything and are not planning on racing 600' or 1000' on the highway you'll be very happy with the thing.
I recommend getting a not too loud muffler, like the Mivv GP (got mine new for ~280€).
I can't speak for the cbr itself, but my cbf has been the greatest thing ever. Never had electronical or mechenical issues, pretty fuel efficient. With the Mivv the bike does some amazing grugles going off the gas.
Sometimes I do think that getting the cbr would have been a better choice, just because of the looks tho.
Me somewhat overthinking brought myself to this UA-cam channel. Great content btw. Came for the info for a beginner bike I can flat foot staying for the kick ass videos
I don't have any bike my dream bike ninja 650
Bro I'm 13 and my mom says I'm not getting a motorcycle under her roof but I've still watched like 100 first bik vids. I needed this
I overthink that I am getting a Electric Supersport, skills wise and financial wise.
