      I’d suggest having a chat with Maxview as you have paid for their support by buying their rebranded product. As it could be down to their packaged antenna rather than the router.

      Well as they supplied the router as a package (at a very high cost compared to buying separately) I’d still be asking them to sort it.
      Have you tried different locations / Cell Towers, what network are you on?
      Have you tried other networks?
      There are lots of variables and the only advantage I have ever seen from buying one of the branded “motorhome” packages is they should be providing you the support to make sure it is delivering what they promise.
      I’d make them fulfil that rather than let them pass you off.

      That doesn't sound like a good experience. Thankfully with both the RUT955 and RUTX12 we've not had any issues.
      It may be worth putting details on to the Teltonika Crowd Support Forum community.teltonika-networks.com/ if you haven't already - I have found the community very useful with tips and advice. Others more technical than me may be able to suggest somethings to try. I have had a quick look but I can't see anything similar that others have experienced already on there.

    I watched several of your videos about Teltonika routers Routx12 and Routx955 with interest. You demonstrate on the boards access to free wifi. In this video, it's at 1:54min. How to add a WiFi network as WAN in the ROUTX12 router? There, there is no WiFi option, only LAN1, LAN2, and LAN.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi on the RUTX12 you can create a WiFi “Client” connection in the Wireless set up page.
      When adding a wireless connection select the Mode as “Client” rather than “AP” (Access Point). This will then allow you to scan for available WiFi connections and login to them.
      You can see more detailed instructions in the Teltonika Wiki here. wiki.teltonika-networks.com/view/RUTX12_Wireless#Client_Mode

    First off, love the channel so please take this as constructive. I'm not sure the price difference between this and your review of the 955 warrants the X12. You were blown away by the former but the latter seems to add "not much". Am I missing something?

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Very happy for constructive questions and it’s a very fair point the 955 is a great unit.
      Where the X12 stands apart is the fact that it has two modems that run simultaneously, rather the 955s one modem that can switch between 2 SIM cards (so only able to use one connection at a time). As the modems in the X12 are Cat6 rather than the Cat4 of the 955 also improves the potential speed through carrier aggregation add the 5Ghz WiFi that the 955 doesn’t have and there is quite a lot of extra features / performance for the money.
      However it does depend what you want to use it for as to whether it’s worth it. For most uses I would say the 955 is plenty, it’s a great stable unit with lots of flexibility and is built like a brick.
      But if always having the best speed you can get wherever you can without messing around, if you run the X12 with 2 different network SIM cards simultaneously aggregating the band bandwidth from each it does make life on the road with a good high speed connection much more likely.

    • @ExploreVanUK

      Hi - the power consumption will vary on a number of factors. eg LTE signal strength / power - number of devices connected, GPS refresh rate, if remote logging is switched on, if devices are connected to LAN etc.
      But average power consumptions are:
      RUTX12 - 3 watts to 12 watts
      RUT955 - 1.8 watts to 8 watts
      Obviously the current will depend on the voltage you are using to power it, as it can run on anything from 9v to 30v
      But if 12 volts that will equate to roughly
      RUTX12 0.25 Amps to 1 Amps
      RUT955 0.15 Amps to 0.7 Amps

      I agree it’s probably not one for the masses. But if working on the road or being connected is important it’s a great solution.
      Also when you compare to the £300 - £400+ of the “Motorhome” branded systems that some seem happy to pay for, where the system is nothing more than a low end LTE router and an external antenna, from my perspective this gives far more performance and features for the money and you’re not getting ripped off because it has a “motorhome” sticker on it.
      Take a look at some of our other videos for mid range and lower end budget solutions for the casual user.

      You can set it to load share across WiFi and 4G, however I suspect it won’t split a single task across the two, just combine the two networks and split different tasks across them, I don’t know how live streams network so can’t say if it would split multiple elements across the two available networks or not.

      Hi, I suspect you will see a similar delay as the 955, as the X11 only has one modem so it has to disconnect SIM 1 and then reconnect with SIM2.
      The no delay switch over on the X12 is because it has two modems running continuously (which is why it’s more expensive)

  • @matthewthompson1518

    Hi there. Great review! This router might be just what we need. Am I right in thinking that in a low signal situation where one network(sim) is struggling to provide enough bandwidth for a given task i.e. a video call, that the RUTX12 can use the netork on the other (sim) at the same time to increase bandwidth? I got the impression that it could but I have been told by someone that having 2 modems is purely to eliminate the delay when switching between them. Thanks

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  Рік тому +1

      Hi thanks, glad it was useful. It is correct that when set to “Fail Over” it will switch almost instantaneously from one mobile network to the other, which is an improvement on a dual Sim single modem model which take 30secs to a Minute.
      But it is also correct that If the configuration is set to “Load Balance” it will aggregate the bandwidth of both mobile networks into your local network therefore increasing the bandwidth available.
      It is worth noting however that I don’t think it is able to split a single task across the two networks. So your video call would not have the combined bandwidth available just for it. But as in all likelihood you would have multiple network tasks running it would allocate these across the 2 mobile networks to make more bandwidth available on one of the networks for the video call.
      Hope that makes sense, it’s quite hard to put it words so let me know if it doesn’t.

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  Рік тому +1

      Hi, No problem at all.
      From an Antenna point of view - I think I would look to go with the QuSpot for the following reasons:
      - It will eliminate any LTE antenna cable loss and cost (which if you are pole mounting is likely to be reasonable due to the length of antenna cable you would need)
      - You need a 4x4 MiMo antenna to cover both modems (Which the QuSPot for the RUTX12 has) - most other antennas you would need to have 2 2x2 Mimo antennas - which then causes challenges with mounting both, cable for both and interference between the two.
      - You are right getting the WiFi signal into the boat may be an issue, but as the Quspot comes with support for Power Over Ethernet injector - you would only have to run a single Ethernet cable to the unit giving the router power and providing a cabled data connection (which could be an advantage when using Teams - eliminating any WiFi loss) adding a relatively cheap Wifi Router in the boat will then provide you a good WiFi and the chance of multiple wired ports for those critical high bandwidth devices.
      It does add a bit of complexity but I think for your use it is justified.
      An alternative you may want to look at is the Poynting A-EPNT-0004-17 which is similar to the QuSpot - I've not tried it but have had good experience with Poynting Antennas.
      (Don't forget you can get 10% off these and the router with our EXPLOREVAN discount code at Solwise.co.uk)

Id also worry i tcould overheat in summer, though it does say it can handle upto 75 deg so who knows. Poynting do do a 4x4 XPol Mimo so maybe ill try that 1st. Thanks agian for your advice!

      You never know.
      But it’s likely to only be comparable to the Dual Cat6 modems running in load balancing in the RUTX12 and you would be reliant on the network / tower supporting Cat12 and the bandwidth being available.
      I tend to think we’re getting to the point where the bottle neck is now the network rather than the modem. Without improved network capacity (especially in the U.K.) it’s unlikely to matter how good the modem is.
      A great modem sadly can’t magic more bandwidth from the network.
      In my experience the Cat6 modems have provided plenty of bandwidth for our use (when it’s available from the network)

Thanks in advance Steve

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  2 роки тому

      Hi Steve, depending on your phone, which is probably more modern and more expensive than your RUT955, you will likely find there are areas where it will perform better due to having a more modern modem. This tends to be in areas where the signal is good and the phone can use multiple frequencies to get greater band width.
      You will get some of this benefit with the RUTX11 as it has a category 6 modem rather than the Category 4i n the RUT955.
      Where the routers come into their element is when the signal is poor and you have low or even no signal on your phone, the routers are much more likely to pull in a usable signal.
      The key thing to be sure of when roaming is that the APN is set correctly for your home network, if you want to drop us a note via the contact form on our website we can have a more detailed chat just to make sure your RUT955 is set up as best as it can be.
      Hope that helps

      @@ExploreVanUK Hi Mike thanks for your reply. I had indeed set up APN to my home network provider (in France ) and whilst roaming it was indeed teaming up with Italian providers as i travelled. Performance was much much better in the north and as progressing south performance got worse i guess due to quality of signal the dual modem should help enormously. I am now thinking to go a step further and buy a RUTX12. I am very grateful for you comments. I will let you know how I get on with the latest 'flagship'
      all that's best Steve

    Did it give any faster download speeds compared to the RUT955?

    Hi, I am looking to connect a RUTX11 to a Wifi portal in a marina. The Wifi network of the marina has a portal and requires a password, but is not encrypted. How do I connect the RUTX11? I.e. how do I prompt the marina network to ask for the login password?

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, it might depend how the Marina have their network set up but where we have had to do similar on campsites the following has worked.
      1. Connect your device to Router as normal.
      2. Set up the Connection from the Router settings to connect the router to the Marinas Open WiFi.
      3. Once connected, on your device navigate to the login page URL (you may need to get this from the Marina or copy it from your device when connecting it direct to the Marina WiFi as it may not open automatically)
      4. This may then allow you to access the portal to authenticate the connection with the Login and Password from the Marina.
      Hope that helps, do bear in mind that by the Marina having an open WiFi network, your data is not encrypted between your router and the Marina so is at risk of interception, therefore I would strongly recommend using a VPN service to encrypt it.

      NB just remembered if you have the "DNS rebind attack protection" on in the advanced settings this may stop you.
      Having this switched off may also allow the portal screen to open automatically.

      What I found is that in addition to what you suggested, I had to change the 2.4GHz network‘s operating frequency to „Legacy“, i.e to 802.11bgn. With that the connection is now very stable.

    Annoying, just got the RUT955.

    Hello again, I have received my RUTX12 and upon opening I started to suspect it had been 'previously owned' and therefore an Amazon return. All in excellent condition however. On connecting it to the van and attempting to log in I got 'incorrect password' returns for the classic admin01 inputs. I tried factory resets several times but to no avail. Do you have a secret way round this before I to return it to Amazon?
    Thanks in advance IOU Steve

    • @ExploreVanUK
      @ExploreVanUK  2 роки тому

      No worries. You should be able to factory reset it by pressing the reset button (with the little pin tool) for 5 seconds. However if it is used it’s possible that the configuration has been changed to increase the 5 seconds in which case hold it until all the signal strength LEDs are lit.
      Once reset the default login should be
      Default Address (LAN IP): 192.168.1.1
      Default Username: admin
      Default Password: admin01

      Yep agreed, might not be for the casual user, check out our other videos for more budget / mid range options we’ve tried.
      We, like a good proportion of subscribers, spend quite a bit of time in our van including working from it, so we’re happy to share the full range of what’s available.
      When you compare this to the £300 - £400+ of the “Motorhome” branded systems that some seem happy to pay for, where the system is nothing more than a low end LTE router and an external antenna, from my perspective this gives far more performance and features for the money and you’re not getting ripped off because it has a “motorhome” sticker on it.

      @@ExploreVanUK Hey, thanks for responding. I do appreciate what you say and I've watched your other videos on most subjects including wifi so I would go down the more basic cheaper route but just had to say WOW to the price lol. I enjoy your videos and have saved some of them for when I am ready for my fit out so thanks for all the information given in the past.
