Love the Stranglers to this day. Such a brilliant band at the proto/post era when so much crappy New Wave was taking over the airwaves. I'm now 68 but still love this music. So good.

It blows my mind thinking that such amazing sounds and songs were created in this back yard and also that Dagenham Dave was allowed to be present when recording Rattus ! (The Specials 1st album also recorded there and others,,,,) The Stranglers were constantly playing gigs in this area in early days at the Nashville etc ... there are listings online and sometimes once or twice a week .. you could literally go to a punk/pub rock.new wave gig every day of the week back then 76/77 onwards right up to late 80's in London....and probably Manchester/Leeds etc..

Got to say first and foremost, what a brilliant song, especially when you understand what the song is a about. I was always puzzled by the lyric (Like the howling of bulls), i always sang, Like the howling of wolves. To me i thought sounded right that way until i realized it was bulls. The stranglers always gets time on my ipod.

Great to actually read the words to 'Ugly' - one of JJB's more difficult one's to decipher...
