- Echo and the Bunnymen • Simple Stuff • Bill Butt’s Original Promo • 1981
•
Then-Bunnymen lighting engineer Bill Butt’s, rough and ready promo for the B-side of the band’s 1980 single, Rescue.
The footage was shot on the 1981 Heaven Up Here tour - the first UK leg of which began at Nottingham’s Rock City, 40 years ago tonight, April 24th 1981.
The quality is far from HD, but if you are a fan of the band during the era as I am, this glimpse into the Heaven Up Here tour is special.
During the Porcupine era, Bill Butt would direct several Bunnymen’s music videos, and then later the legendary, but unreleased KLF movie "The White Room".

Seemingly the Simple Stuff promo was only to be found on a few copies of the 1982 home video release of Shine So Hard / Le Via Luonge. This copy originates from a VHS bought directly from Bill Butt himself, back in the day. And we must extend huge thanks to DE for sharing it with us.
The quality here isn’t the best, but then we have to considering that our source is a 40 year old domestic VHS tape. And footage that was probably originally shot on very basic equipment.
I did what I could to optimize the picture and synced the result to a remastered audio of Simple Stuff.
Thanks for watching, hope you dig it!

This band had it all… dynamics, power and melody and used them all to create the best music ( still is). Heaven u h is the best ever use of guitar bass drums vocals ever. Lucky enough to see them twice at Hammersmith Palace 82 and 83 .Thanks for the memories X
Once again amazing footage Nacho....
I used to deliver milk in the Liverpool area for a pocket money job living around the area etc turned out Les Patinson (Bass guitar 🎸) lived at one of the addresses we collected for on a Thursday... I heard this was true so asked his Mum if by any chance it would be possible to get the Crocodiles 🐊 lp signed?
To my amazement she said to leave it with her...
The next week it was signed by the band including producer King bird 🐦
Ian Broudie and a whole lot of requests including NMTFN
UTFN etc.....
Ironically on the Korova label
You can't make it up...
True Story
Cheers
Me I'm all smiles I got them Crocodiles.... 😎
Great story, thanks for sharing. Hope you’ve still got the signed Crocodiles?

Love this song, and saw/heard it played live 😏
Next to Bowie, this band is so close to my heart! Thank you so much.
First time seeing this promo. I always liked this song. Definitely some 13th Floor Elevators influence here.

Funny, was just thinking of you this morning, Nacho! What an incredible gem this is to share! As usual, thank you for the incredible amount of work you have devoted to make this happen - just love it ❤
Never seen this footage before, they all look so young! Lol Thank you for this, love the Bunnymen!
Definitely one of the most enduring bands of the 80s... Love
Brilliant! Just like being back on the road, takes me back
You are doing God's work with these videos.
This is great, thanks to Will Sergeant for the head-up and to you for it.
Please stay tuned - more ‘81 Bunnymen rarities to follow :)
Thanks for the upload of this lost gem of the Bunnymen! I love this era and time so much. Something beyond magical wasn't it?
70 and 80 best years in pop music and its offshoots such as rock and metal and so on, it’s a pity I didn’t catch it all live because I was born late
very good.....................................................
So lovely a rescue Nacho! 💫
Awe my grandpa had one of those cameras ☹️
