    • @GreentopLandscapes
      @GreentopLandscapes  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Tom, the SBR coated on the back will avoid fast absorption of the moisture out of the mortar that will result in delamination and it will ensure the slab adheres to the mortar, don't forget a full bed, stay safe mate

    Hi Johnny, im just sbout to lay some 6 side smooth / sawn indian sandstone. Never laid smooth / sawn before, i always prime the backs of sandstone with an SBR / cement slurry which i think works great. Just wondered if you seal the face before laying? I've never sealed before laying, but a few suppliers online are reccomended doing this because of how easy the slabs stain when laying. Whats your thoughts and any tips for laying smooth sandstone would be most welcome.
    Thanks Joe

      Hi Joe, thank you for your feedback its really appreciated, its nice to see a positive sensible constructive comment. I think in some cases its just down to budget with the client. Anything that helps to protect is good but we really got to understand the stone we are using, if a supplier seals as part of the production process thats great but we just can not put anything on as it can make a mess. I have seen this a few times, thank you so much for your response and stay safe my friend. Johnyboy

Can you tell me how I might apply it and in what mix / ratio? And what would be your instructions? Do I paint it onto the existing concrete base and let it dry or paint it on and them start putting the mix down while it is still wet / tacky? Thakns in advance for clarifying here Johnyboy!

    I'm confused, in some of your vids you lay the bed of mortar and then you make small voids/spaces in the bed so that when the slab goes down it spreads into those voids you make. Here you've gone completely flat, am I missing something, I'm watching so many of your vids as I'm going to be laying Indian limestone in the next few months and I don't want to get it wrong. Great vids though - very informative and comprehensive.

    If you add the builders still you wouldn't need the slurry, the builders helps it adhere. slurry is for porcelain because it is non porous product, slurry is not for porous slabs like sandstone, waste of time and money using slurry on natural stone. it is a marketing gimmick. I have been laying sandstone for nearly 20 years now and my slabs dont come loose. If you do a 6 to 1 mix being 5 sharp 1 builders and one cement the concrete is as porous as the sandstone so you get an even drain and no frost heave. i appriciate there are more than one way to skin a cat, so you do you mate, but i recommend not using slurry on natural stone.

    • @GreentopLandscapes
      @GreentopLandscapes  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the response, its appreciated and you are entitled to your opinion, the thing is the slabs these days are so thin and as sandstone absorbs moisture you can get delimitation through this so the slurry is just belt and braces and will ensure this does not happen.
      Years ago the slabs were so thick and heavy and just would not move, thanks for your response.
