- One person is confirmed dead following a shooting at Hallidie Plaza in San Francisco Thursday night, officials with the fire department say. San Francisco police said two people have been detained and a weapon was recovered.

Because they get guns illegally, criminals always find a way. Banning things does not solve the issue. Go look at history, Prohibition when the government enacted the 18th amendment in 1920. Tell me, did that stop people from drinking and killing others, and did crime go down or up? It went up with Prohibition leading directly to the rise of organized crime. You had gangsters like Al Capone and the Mafia with "tommy guns" bootlegging liquor back in the 1920s and early 1930s, getting into shootouts on the street, everything was a mess. What happened in 1933, the 21st amendment was enacted, appealing the 18th amendment which put a nationwide ban on liquor and allowed states to make the decision on whether to restrict it or not. Organized crime went down after the 18th amendment was appealed with the 21st amendment being ratified. This shows that banning things does not lead to a solution, and in fact leads to a dissolution. Ban guns, cannot defend yourself, including off duty officers of who cannot carry firearms either. What does that mean? A criminal's paradise to get a gun illegally, even through 3D printing. Guns have been around for centuries, people always find a way to manufacture them. Without armed off duty officers, and citizens, criminals can shoot up any place without a bystander taking out the threat and instead precious lives get lost in the process, taking forever for the police to come, as liberals like to defund the police and give slap on the wrist punishments to public enemies and menaces to society. You can keep following the sheep and propaganda, but one day, you will face reality and will have to wake up to reality. Cannot keep sniffing the corrupt leaders butts.

FYI - Hallidie Plaza is a underground public space connecting the cable car turnaround to the underground BART subway station. It is not visible from street level resulting in many loiterers and avoided by the locals. All other BART entrance/exits are at street level and much safer.
The criminals won’t be prosecuted. London and city leaders will be back with their talking points that crime is down.

SF was a tourist destination when I was growing up. Now, it's becoming like Oakland. It's all because of the people who were voted to run the city.
But where are the quality people running for office? People who own property there it aint cheap. Where are they? Oh please about those voted to run the City. I saw the nobody wannabes come to my hometown to live out there uber radical fantasies since the late 60s. I am out of the Bay Area, 20 years ago due to $$$ and personal but it breaks my heart. My beautiful SF got used and abused for its beauty and tolerance and all these PC a holes came to SF who were nobodies but ran for Board of Sup and got in. Jerks since the late 60s. They ruined our City. All the other groups that are still there - where are they in taking over and making responsible decisions? Who ran besides London Breed that she got elected? SAD. A BEAUTIFUL CITY RUINED BY TOO MANY EXTREME GROUPS ALL TAKERS WHO DIDNT WANT TO CO OPERATE TO MAINTAIN THE CITY WITH ITS RICH HISTORY AND CLASS and keep a balance. Violent crime has been up about 32% statewide ( especially Oakland-SF Bay Area) in the past two years ( despite how our Governor/AG explain their statistics otherwise) and retail theft ( now more often involving professional organized street crews doing takeover robberies during business hours, and break ins after hours) is up 64% statewide….
SFPD ( and Oakland PD!!) is down 400 to 500 officers over the last three years due to retirements , past defunding, poor morale ( officers transferring to other agencies for better work/life/ housing situations) and difficulty in recruiting/hiring filling new officers for said vacancies.
The retired unarmed SFPD “Ambassadors” for the most part are restricted to the tourist spots ( Fisherman’s Wharf, Japantown, Chinatown, Union Square,Cablecar districts, etc) during 8 to 5 weekend/peak weekday hours….
BART PD are among the highest paid police officers in the State ( if not the USA) and they should be more visible system wide , at all shifts, but they are seemingly not??
How is it that the run of the mill unhinged mentally ill/homeless/street thugs outnumber the police and BART/MUNI patrons by wide and regular margins on the daily???
Thankfully in the seven hours since this aired two suspects and a gun have been detained/recovered by authorities.
Yeah, the City is still screwed, along with the State; the long term negative effects of the Progressive state/city government crime reform scheme is at least five years away from being improved.

I'm sure a gun was simply dropped on the ground by an upstanding person and discharged on it's own. This is a common occurrence in SF, the court tossed the last case when it was prosecuted.

2nd amendment and 4th amendment violation. People have the right to have multiple firearms in their homes, and how are you going to search everyone's houses, including yours.
