Great review. I drove the A110 ‘Pure’ and the ‘S’. I ordered the ‘S’. I test drove EVERYTHING (including the 718 Caymen GTS4.0). It is absolutely amazing. My background is Lotus Elise, Exige, Ariel Nomad and various other exotics. It is a drivers car and everyone gives you a thumbs up and wants to talk to you about it… Oh and I am over 50; buy the ‘S’!
It's just incredible how you are able to get the car to progressively slide on winter tires and make it look so easy. Love the camera angles you played with made the review feel very high end. Cant wait for your next videos!
This channel has one very important element that gives your words and reviews credibility. And it is the fact that you can actually drive. I wouldn’t be the same if some bloke who couldn’t drive a kart remotely fast said so. Keep this amazing videos up.
Agreed. Great vid. Loving the drifting- he's a decent wheelman, although my hunch is that he ran wide and damaged the wheel and sidewall from the rocky verge...
7:11 For those who say "it's perfectly fine to have the paddles attached to the steering wheel," watch as he is turning the wheel and says it's a lot to deal with when pushing it to the limit. You'll be glad those paddles are fixed and in the same place every single time when you need them. Great video!
Yes, but it surely depends on the car. If you are not drifting and not letting off your hands of the steering wheel it's quite nice to have the paddles where your hand is.
@@jupa5263 Only when the steering gear is short like in race cars. Then you wont have to reach around in corners. Otherwise it is bullshit to have them mounted to the steering wheel.
@@Gentleman...Driver If you do any half decent amount of track driving you'll know that you almost never take your hands off of 9 and 3 unless something is going wrong and you're making corrections. Awesome review, new to the channel and so happy I found it. Great driving, love the car. Please get a mic, your in-car audio was less than great. Other than that, well done and keep it up! 👍🏼👍🏼
Really nice review. I’ve driven both the A110 & the S and there’s a distinct difference between the two. Both are very enjoyable cars and I’d love to own one. The difficult part would be deciding which one to go for. A110 is playful at road speeds. A110S has higher limits and would be better suited to someone who enjoys the occasional trackday. Interestingly the A110 is designed by engineers poached from Lotus & McLaren with a bit of Caterham and Renault Sport in the mix. What a machine!
Ansonsten geiles professionelles Video.
for you, what is the better choice between thi alpine and a porsche Cayman ? (even an old generation with a flat 6) or a lotus exige s 350 ? does the 4 cylinder sound good?Thank you for your video and your answer !!
Nice review! The shiftpaddles are indeed a little small and could be a little bit longer to the underside. But not much or my left knee (long legs) would hit them. 90% op the time I drive the A110 with manual shifts and never had the problem of touching the indicator stick instead of the shiftpaddle. My personal biggest downsides are the crap radio (worst FM/DAB reception ever) and the outdated multimedia (no Apple CarPlay, etc). Driving wise the car is awesome, but I'm really curious how the build quality and reliability is going to be I a couple of years of ownership.
Mega Video, so wie immer. An manchen Stellen ist es aber wirklich schwierig dich zu verstehe, da die Hintergrundgeräusche so laut sind. Nur als Hinweis für zukünftige Videos. Weiter so!
Nice work! Its basically a kart with 2 seats and cabin comforts. Would love to throw it around some twisties. But did I hear right, you of all people being okay with paddles ;)
New sub here from Joe Achilles channel. It would be awesome if you could get your hands in a Lotus Evora GT430 Sport in the future (when the COVID19 restrictions are taken down) . Almost no reviews about it and I think it deserves it.
It's "lightweight", so that's where good driving fun comes from. In times of an 340i with 1700kg +, cayman 1400kg etc , it's pretty nice. I don't know why so much Luxus, electronics etc is built sport cars. Had more fun in a 1100kg fiesta st than in 1600kg 335i. And always the same annoying, unnatural exhaust sound with double clutch system... People should drive a kz2 shifter kart. Now that is lightweight performance and fun...
@@heelandtoe_ The speakers ? The sound is coming from a sound pipe behind the drivers seat connected to to the air overflow from the engine . So no, the sound is not coming from the speakers !
Drove the a110 and the a110s. Would go for the normal one and save the 10k. If you don’t plan to track it you won’t really feel the difference. Biggest problems are boot capacity and that shitty infotainment system. The boot is not enough to go for a long weekend with your girlfriend. I believe even grocery shopping could be a problem. The infotainment is worse than in a Renault what is an absolute no go at that price point... And yeah! It is a lot of fun for a 1.8 turbo 😄
Sound quality with the Focal system is great. Interface isn’t particularly refined, but I have Apple Car Play in my other car and I still just set my music using my phone. Navigation works well too. I’m not sure why people are so critical of it. I guess perhaps I tend to just set a playlist and leave it, or leave the whole thing off to listen to the engine :-).
My personal biggest downsides are the crap radio (worst FM/DAB reception ever) and the outdated multimedia (no Apple CarPlay, etc). Driving wise the car is indeed awesome...boot space is limited. When owning the car you have to keep this in the back of your head when going to the shop. You are indeed very limited in what you can put in the car. there goes less stuff in both trunks then you would guess at first sight. If you want to do more track then daily street get the S. We have a normal A110 (S was not available back then)...it's a daily + also some occasional track. For track it's a bit soft, so we are going to fit this Life110 suspension upgrade: www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/features/three-kind-alpine-a110-vs-a110-s-vs-life110
Pretty cool image, but the sound is terrific. You should really get a Lavalier mic to get a closer sound and to make the voice pop out from the ambient noise, because most of your speach is drowned in the noise background because of the distance between you and the camera mic. Too bad you spent that much money on decent cameras, drone, etc, plus the time you spent on color correction and video editing and finally get a speach no one can clearly hear. I'm a sound tech and a sound editor/designer, if my help is needed.
Spike D-B I completely agree. It was my biggest annoyance of the whole trip/film. But it’s all work in progress. Until now i didn’t really have the budget to get a separate sound recorder, but i got one now and will always be recording sound seperstely with a lavalier mic. Thanks for your honest opinion/tips! 👍🏼
What count in a real sport car is not the sbsolute power, this is the ratio weight power all in a light weight. For example 1100kg for 292hp will be much more performant in a road race than the same ratio: 1500kg for 398 hp. And for that, no other car can meet the Alpine achievement in this market. At a period when everyone is worried about C02 emissions , the consumer of an Alpine can be as low as 6l per 100 km in a normal long ride (I have experienced 6,1 l/100km on a ride of 800 km). Just give me another sport car with the same qualities and so low fuel consumption, for sure not the porsches for consumption, not the 4C and elise for confort in an every day use. And concerning the design, I think that they are all beautiful: 718, 4C,elise, Alpine... it is a question of personal tast.
I would guess most will save up the extra few grand and get the new Cayman GTS? The standard 110 may be a better option if you really want the Alpine, but within a few grand of the new GTS the 110s makes no sense. Alpine may even be slightly better handling, but a manual GTS with the new GT 4.0 is special car. Compared to the ordinary 4 pot turbo engine and it's soundtrack that the Alpine has (and the previous Cayman GTS 2.5...), all petrolheads know it's no comparison to the screaming rev thrill of the GT spec n/a engine. You have to hand it to Porsche, just when they have a challenger they up their game and blow it away.
Unappealing 2 pedals, turbo engine, small luggage capacity and below par (compared to Porsche) build: a shame as for all its pretty design, well engineered suspension and lightweight construction still stands no chance against a Cayman / Boxster (cars that you will hoards of tuners with ready tuning parts if one wishes so) of similar price. Like Lotus, Alpine has got its price completely wrong. I like it a lot but as my cash is with Porsche
That's hands down the most enjoyable review I've seen of this car. Very natural, honest, classy, and the production value is just insane.

It is more easy on winter tires, because the summer tires are more sticky.

Longer paddles that are closer to the wheel are available.
If you’re desperately grabbing for gears & sawing at the wheel half way through corners on the road you need to consider how you’re driving
