- Western Norway is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, but its deep fjords and steep, ice mountains also pose numerous challenges for drivers. It takes around 21 hours to travel the over 700 miles between the cities of Kristiansand in the south and Trondheim in the north, with an average speed of about 30 miles per hour and the assistance of seven ferries. A multi billion infrastructure megaproject by the Norwegian government is poised to replace the ferries with bridges, conventional tunnels and-shocking the American engineers-the world's first floating tunnel as part of a multibillion dollar infrastructure project.

Why shock American Engineers? America doesn’t have engineers. They depend on the world engineers for their projects
Tbe Stadt Ship Tunnel was first proposed during WWII, works was not commenced during the war, and during the rebuilding after the war the tunnel was not set on priority. Since late 1980's ship sizes and ship traffic changes made the project obsolite. It have been revived by politicians regularly sinze the 70's but never found finanziation, until about 30 years after the socioeconomic effects of the Ship Tunnel is negotiable. The most significant effects of Stadt Ship Tunnel will be improved safety via the VTS service, that will cover a much larger sea-area than the tunnel, and the local jobs generated by the VTS.
Stadt Ship Tunnel works is not yet approved, but during last 5 years realistic engineering plans means the estimated construction cost does not fluctuate as much anymore, making it more realistic to have the plans approved. Without government financing the Stadt Ship Tunnel will never be constructed, as the benefits for shipping will not defend the costs of passing if a fee is to be charged, and no private enterprice will take upon them to construct and build without any forecast of income.
Trondheim in the north? that is 1/4 of the way to the north of Norway
😂😂 was thinking the same.. it's still in the south
The longest floating tunnel is allready work in progress! I live next to it! They’ve been building it for years allready actually😅
How can you mix the freshwater of the Fard with the salt water of the ocean now that’s a question I want answered
The Fard, (Fjord*) is mixed the second freshwater meet the fjord.
It's a glorious vision. I question if the Euros for construction, or even yearly maintenance, will ever pay back.
Not one single Euro actually. Norway is not part of EU
Why American engineers?😂😂
BETTER THAN CHINESE ENGINEERS
America might not have the best infrastructure, but it’s engineering firms are very advanced and their expertise is often used outside of America.
27 years as a civil Engineer. I can confirm that America depends on foreign engineers.
trillion $ ??
No, the video is wrong there. The cost was calculated to 340 billion Norwegian kroner in 2016. That's equal to somewhere between 30 and 35 billion US dollars. Of course there's been inflation sicne then but we're still talking billiions, not trillions.
this is one of the patents scientists who mysteriously disappeared in flight mf370!! what a coincidence!!
This is a European Union (EU) project. Why no credit for the cross border EU funding?
Norway is not in the EU
It can’t be a EU project! Norway is not a member but a rich good friend 😎
Why are you talking about things you have no clue about?
Because that's what people do on youtube....@@frosty6960
Why on earth would this be an EU-project?
