  • Roads: Cars in the millions traverse thousands of kilometers daily, interconnected on an extensive network spanning an entire nation.
    The well-developed French roads are considered among the finest globally. Take the A40, an awe-inspiring accomplishment that demanded construction in extreme circumstances. Initially conceived, the Paris Ring Road appeared to be an almost daring and adventurous endeavor. How did the laborers manage to carve a path encircling the inner city of Paris? And how did they construct a bridge above the railway tracks amidst the heart of the French capital?
    Let's not forget the Ring Road's path beneath the Prince's Stadium. Moreover, we have the A10, stretching between Paris and Bordeaux. This highway claims the title as France's longest, designed to withstand all weather conditions. The A10, A40, and Paris Ring Road, each setting remarkable records, stand as astounding examples of civil engineering accomplishments.

    And there I was thinking it was only the Chinese that could build eye-watering infrastructure. Of that lot of mega motorways the Paris Ring Road is by far the most impressive in terms of logistics, vision and seemingly impossible obstacles, but the A40 also had some challenges to overcome.

    So over there you have 'these' highways and motorways. Come to Australia and you'll see a few highways that are nearly the length of the entire European continent. The Stuart Highway, for example, goes for about 3000km straight through the centre of our country, connecting Darwin in the Northern Territory to Adelaide in South Australia. 3 day, 2 night trip if you're counting fuel stops, food, etc

    • @phuturephunk
      @phuturephunk 8 місяців тому +1

      You do. The problem is there's no real other reinforcing transit to take drivers off the road. Actually Nashville has a double ring, one interstate and one state highway. Actually it's kind of sort of a triple ring if you take I 440 into account. Once again, this stuff works in Paris and France in general because there is a huge cohort of the population in their city cores that do not drive on a normal basis. Even Paris, which has hefty road infrastructure and a lot of drivers...has one of the premier transit systems on the planet. That's what's missing from most American cities.

    Why is a tunnel not "possible" under a railroad track, money(?), certainly technical possible.
    Those writers need to be more precise, tunnels are even earthquake resistant.
    While there were some feats, the whole think sounds like French polish.

      French infrastructure were built in the 70s, pioneering civil engineering feats. China’s are much newer and have benefitted from engineering principles and processes already established.
      There are no comparisons to be made. I’m Chinese. I appreciate that China has stood on the shoulders of other countries’ innovation.
      China is now spearheading improvements in engineering, too.
      Other countries will benefit on cumulative advancements made by each countries.
