I must confess I am quite pleased with your style: (1) no talking, just pure sight and sound with occasional titles providing only the barest minimum of required information; and (2) superb editing, cutting out all the long, dull, overdone endless miles, and presenting only the most scenic and informative bits and pieces of video. LEAVE US WANTING MORE!!!! Yes. Although I am a rather long-winded vlogger by nature and practice, I very much admire your filming and editing strategy. Congratulations on yet another pleasing and informative little film.
I remember doing the whole journey from Oostende to Vienna for many years :-) , Train from Victoria to Dover, Ferry Dover to Oostende then Wien Oostende Express , arrive Vienna 09:30 , then it started from Brussels , then cut back to Koeln ....now its back to Brussels and maybe to Oostende but that is just a rumour ...... I love this video as it shows the Westbahnhof still with the low platforms.....another rumour is that the express trains may run into Westbahnhof again to ease congestion at Hauptbahnhof sidings.... would be fantastic if they did as Westbahnhof is so empty and could do with the injection .... as I work for the OEBB I cant say to much lol
I really like your channel. When I eventually make my way back to Europe, your videos will definitely be used as a reference point re; my train/ferry travel plans.
Great video, great scenery along the Rhine River in Germany, nice clean stations in Germany. This is a trip where you need to bring you camera to take pictures. Train travel is the best way to see a country. When I travel long distance, I travel by Amtrak train. When I'm in the San Diego area in the future, I will be kriding on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner trains between San Diego, Los Angeles & Oxnard, will also travel by Metrolinks commuter trains from Los Angeles Union Station to the Metrolink Sylmar/San Fernando station.
I did this same trip on mid-summer’s June 2018. Sadly, my compartment had no window blind making sleeping difficult and changing in the morning an act not to be whilst stationary at a station.
Great video. I remember travelling this route in the mid 80s. We got the boat train from Victoria to Dover and then the ferry to Ostend where we boarded the Oostend Express. This went to Brussels, Cologne, Aachen, Passau, LINZ and Vienna taking around 24 hours. How times change with the Channel Tunnel.
+Tal Mamatov it is sady true at dezember 2016 the city night line are history, but there ist a little spark of hope the austian ÖBV plans eventually to take over the german night trains
Try southern Cross Melbourne to Albury. You would be shocked our trains look like rolling stock from the 19th century I often wonder what tourists must think f the crap we have in Victoria is Australia a complete embarrassment when compared with Japan and Europe
Love Eurostar, used it more times. Just wondering what is the EMF/EMP level inside the train when fastest. Probably the same valid for TGV trains and any other highspeed trains (or airplanes while up) & during take off. Because high level of electro-magnetic radiation is no good for people with cancer, like me.
Why did you change at Cologne? You simply could have stayed in the same ICE to Frankfurt (which runs to Frankfurt on a high speed track with 300 km/h) and got a train (ICE or Euronight) from there to Vienna
Wrong video, this is the sleeper option. If you want daytime ICE trains between Vienna and London, THIS is the video to watch, ua-cam.com/video/u2MlMk9j2vM/v-deo.html
It's a Panasonic D90 (think I've recalled that correctly). The key thing is that it's a wide-angle camcorder not the bog-standard lens camcorder. As with the standard 50mm SLR lens, the standard camcorder lens is great for close up portraits, but no good at all for taking in buildings, landscapes, or trains! It's like looking through a telescope!
Cruise-Channel I use a mini-tripod if there's something to stand it on, or for a floor-standing wideshot. Otherwise, I run it through UA-cam stabilisation which works a treat. Takes time, but I think makes a big difference if you aren't toting a huge BBC-style self-stabilized TV camera! ;0)
this is beyond way beyond in far better than Amtrack did ever offer even in first class even in business class even in a sleeper car the best you can buy Amtrack kind of sucks compared to this I love Amtrack and it's still awesome to me because it's all that I have access to for an hour but I'm coming United Kingdom I'm coming to travel around I'm coming to see and meet all the wonderful people from Germany and everywhere how awesome how awesome is this awesome or the people there they are truly awesome America needs to take a step back and look at the way Germany and France and Britain and the rest of the world is is carrying on and they need to emulate them because they are wonderful and perfect and in so many ways the way America used to be
Amtrak will never emulate the European rail systems. Passenger trains in the U.S. died about 50 years ago after the completion of the national highway system and after jet plane travel became safe and cheap. It doesn't make sense for the U.S. to invest in rail travel since America is massive and spans 4 time zones. A train trip from New York to Los Angeles on a train (about 3,000 miles / 4800 km) takes about 4 or 5 days (one way). Why spend 4+ days on a train when you can fly the same distance in under 8 hours for far less money? Rail travel works in Europe because the countries are small. In the U.S. it's unfeasible, and the public has no desire to sit on a train for days to travel anywhere. We're actually lucky to have Amtrak, which is subsidized by the government and loses money every year. Many politicians in Washington want to get rid of it.
+RD M Actually, Amtrak is bad because its trains are so slooooooow. A book about why it's bad compared it with several countries including one or two in Africa, Japan and France. Amtrak is always the slowest on the list and has the absolute WORST times. It's always late. Distances have nothing to do with it. If Amtrak had a high speed train linking Texas to California, I'd be using it rather than suffer at the airport, dealing with delays, traffic, baggage fees and rising ticket prices. And to the liars at Amtrak, 45 mph is NOT "high speed rail." The TGV in France goes way over three or four times that speed.
+largol33t1 Yes, Amtrak is slow because they do not actually own the rails. They have agreements with the nation's largest freight railroads to "borrow" their rails. When push comes to shove, the freight trains receive priority over Amtrak. That's why they're so slow. Do you realize that Amtrak loses more than $1 billion each year and has for decades? If it were ran like a real business, it would have been shut down and liquidated in 1972. Don't get me wrong--I love trains and have taken more than 25 trips on Amtrak. But I'm also a realists who doesn't live in Cloud Cuckoo Land. Under these circumstances, Amtrak will never build any high-speed transcontinental railroad. That would be a huge white elephant. You could be build, but hardly anyone would use it and it would lose billions each year (money that the government does not have.)
Not at all - picture windows, room to stand up and walk around or just stretch out, a cafe-bar, armchairs around tables, and what about that proper restaurant on the ICE?!
Mark Smith I remember the "old" German ICE-trains of the 1980S..the the Locomotive 103 in front..I also remember the even older Blue Wagon-lits from the mid-1970S..in France the sleeping-cars have vanished on domestic routes due to these airplane-like TGV?
am1966ath The old trains are still in service today, and will be for a few years to come (they're being starting to be slowly replaced by a new EMU, though).
Wakajce Look at the once beautiful CWL-sleeping cars and the German TEE-wagons and trains or the French TEE- trains..they are all gone and replaced by ugly double decker sleeping cars that although more and more sleeping car connections are dismantled. as the fast trains have made overnight voyages slow and very expensive..in France the TGV and in Germany the ICE have replaced the characteristic trains that I mentioned.
Wakajce Inter European cross border train travel have become very expensive and very difficult to book..people take low cost airline and spend their holidays on the destination, not going there..the bureaucratic and expensive state railways have not kept track of the competition the airplane.
watching this video, while admiring the whole thing, almost made me physically ill: comparing the 21st century rail systems in Europe to clunky old Amtrak in the u.s. to be fair, Amtrak has been grossly underfunded since the start, forced to give way to freight trains, causing absurd delays, bad track condition. worst of all, the failure, some years ago, to begin constructing a high speed rail system. even the bit we have from d,.c. to nyc to boston cannot run at the speeds the train is designed for. construction on the LA to SF line in ca. has been at least delayed if not terminated. foolish.
amit kumar west lost 50 million people in WW-II. It is their sacrifice which has made them great as they know how to value human life.Have we asians made even 1% sacrifice for our countries?Do we value human lives.

Uniquely captured and pleasantly satisfying. Literally felt like I was there throughout the journey. Thanks and God bless you.
Felt like I was aboard the train myself. Wonderful scenery and wonderful video.
Thank you so very much for sharing this well edited short film! It creates a feeling of wanting to leave right now on the next train! :)
John Choque ..How I wish that I was young again, so that I could travel, and see more of the world.
+Elizabeth Reign Castillo Just do it!
Got to say I do agree. Something I would like to do before I get too much older.
Lovely film - it captures the atmosphere of European train travel perfectly and makes me wish I was doing it now!

I am doing this trip next year, health permitting. Train beats flying any day. Wonderful video, keep them coming.

I'm afraid the short cut is now closed because of security at Brussels.
Any idea of the longest, nontransfer train route in Europe?
Munich to Rome is quite a long stretch. But if you go north, there is also Helsinki Rovaniemi, both sleeper trains.
