i took the eurostar to Paris, as an american it is so embarrassing to see how wonderful, smooth and FAST Europes trains are compared to our jerky, broken, old and slow rail travel. I just took a 2 day trip from San Francisco to Chicago for fun and it was like being in a major earthquake the whole way.
Whilst this is true about the plane being faster and cheaper... the ease of security, baggage allowance (if any), being able to bring your own food, alcoholic beverages, all your toiletries and what not (literally almost anything with no restrictions), no customs upon arrival, in my honest opinion, outweighs me flying. I'd personally choose Eurostar to travel to the Netherlands over flying everytime x
Beautiful stations at both ends of the journey. Fast, peaceful ride and so much better than flying - and with travel to/from airport factored in it’s probably faster. Great video.
Can't wait to get back onboard, I did this journey in December 2019, had to use Thalys on the return, changing onto Eurostar at Brussels Midi. Got a trip planned in the summer to Czech Republic. Incidentally I dropped into Trainworld in Schaerbeek on my back to the UK from southern Poland, deffo worth a visit 100%
This was fun. i traveled by train all over Europe as an American student in the early 1970's. Loved it. But how it's changed! i have the impression that Europe has made much more progress than has the USA in the intervening years. I'm h happy for people there.... but wonder what our leaders are doing. Thanks for uploading this great video.
I did this journey in late 2021 and enjoyed the change from flying. I did it for the exploration and views but the best thing is that the train will drop you off in central Amsterdam! (a few minutes walk to your nearest cafe 😁).
Note that it's some sometimes cheaper to buy a ticket to amsterdam than lille, so if you are going there check the amsterdam ticket price and if it is cheaper buy that and then just leave the train at lille...no one checks on exit.
I live near Dover, but to get the Eurostar I have to travel up to london on HS1, only to come all the way back again, just to get into the tunnel. Apparenty, Ashford 'International' Station isn't actually 'International'. Crazy. Excellent Video by the way :)
Wow beautiful journey. Thanks for sharing this video .It give me guide to travel Amsterdam in the future. It's a dream travel to a beautiful country like Amsterdam.
I’ve stay at The Renaissance St Pancras. It’s stunning and so is the train station. The next time I come, I’m taking the train to Amsterdam and on the way back, stopping in Brussels.
Would've loved to take it for an upcoming trip but the fares in standard were double the price of a flight. It seems that this route is only competitively priced if you book quite far in advance, the tunnel definitely needs some competition.
Great trip. To be honest, I miss the sail rail trip. Hope in the future you can make it, sir. Especially for trip which isn't included in this channel yet.
I was looking for the opposite direction Amsterdam to London. But your video still gave me a lot of information I'm heading to the Netherlands for 2 weeks in September hopefully and I'm just trying to figure out if I want to see any other European cities and what's the best way to get there I'm going to go through a lot more videos of yours thanks appreciate the info
for the netherlands almost everything is reachable with trains busses or taxis (or bicycles because we also have a lot of those XD) i don't know anything about the other country.
gosh! not only quite sufficiently informative, but also: no hype, no muzak, no vuzak...... excellent signal-to-noise ratio, a rarity indeed these days. well dne! and thank you!
Cheers for this I'm planning a trip to Middelburg and was think of doing this route instead of Harwich to the Hook of Holland ferry which seems more complicated
I have referenced the website on numerous occasions. As a result, we have taken trains from Athens to Thessaloniki, and Geneva-Paris-London. Also planned London-Bordeaux, cancelled due to COVID. Many thanks tp The Man in Seat 61! Otherwise couldn't plan reliably from Australia.
Will do it this way on my next London visit, this is a bargain compared to other methods of travel. Did the London-Paris train trip in 1998 and loved it, so this one is a must. Thanks for the great video!
Hello There, a great Video with a fantastic isnight into the overall jourmey throughout. Which coach did you sit in? Thank you for sharing this, it's much appreciated. Cheers Peter :)
What day did you travel to get so few fellow passengers? I did this trip in October last year and it was really busy midweek. The real feature was having all the COVID paperwork for the Netherlands, the EU passport control was staffed by the French, so they weren't remotely interested in any requirements other than those to enter France. Much more civilised than flying though.
Yes. The train takes you downtown to downtown, which saves the long journey to and from the airports. You also do not have to wait for your bags after arriving at your destination, which is another frustrating aspect of air travel.
Wow! Is that what the Eurostar was like back in February? I went in mid-June and it was complete noisy chaos. The departure hall was so full of people that no one could sit. It was so loud that it hurt. The check in had those airport scanning machines where people had to take off their jackets and belts and take out their laptops and the lines were backed up all the way down the station. I dream of it being this peaceful again!
Mm I'm a semi regular St Pancras to/from Amsterdam C. The big bugbear for me is dep at St Pancras and there, the few passport booths (both UK and French/Schengen), that are manned. Sometimes the queue stretches out into the main Rail Station concourse. And sometimes Eurostar has to call up front, people in the back of the queue, cos their train is soon to depart!! Thus wont be helped later when EU decides to introduce the ETIAS pass (for UK passport holders). [ Ah the joys of Brexit, I didnt vote for it!! ]
As someone who has taken amtrak - this train makes me weep. The station makes me weep. The food makes me weep. That "standard" class would be first, if we were so lucky to have first class.
So frustrating that e* passes within 1km of my house. But I have to take the train for an hour in the opposite direction, through two stations specifically built for e* to get on the thing. Or I can drive for the same time to Gatwick and get a much quicker and cheaper (and less pleasant) flight.
It took quite a while to introduce direct Eurostar to Amsterdam train lines but it finally became a reality 5 years ago,it is perhaps surprising that it does NOT stop at any of the Antwerp stations. Are any connections available to other European train services by using the Eurostar Amsterdam route?
Surprise, surprise. I wish I could be there instead of on the there other side of the planet. It really looks nice. When I was last in London the tunnel hadn't been dug. Yes, it was that long ago.
Really nice video.Ive done the trip myself and it was very comfortable and a pleasant experience in all.Would do it again for sure.Much better than flying

USA is very backward in many ways but they almost never travel or realise it.
Thanks a lot … opens up a load of possibilities - so much more civilised v flying - especially impressed with just walking off on arrival !
Yeah but flying is faster and cheaper. £50 return and hour flying.

Haha, the best is arriving at Amsterdam central, which building, at the end, looks just almost like St Pancras at the very beginning!

A well made and enjoyable video. I will certainly consider travelling to Amsterdam or Rotterdam by Eurostar, as it will make a change from flying.
Thanks for shooting this. Nice touch to mention the ICE connection. This settles a debate with my partner on how to get to Amsterdam!
Train cabin looks fantastic.
Indian Railways should manufacture such spacious compartments in coming years.

It could have been Deutsche Bahn with their ICE 3 (same model, though shorter trainsets) had not been for pandemic.
