Thanks for helping the neighbor, 32 years is a long time.
Brian has the correct shade of green!
Loving your channel! You are one of the best!
Thanks
***Your a class act sir, not videoing the grave digging shows who you really are at your core.
Hats off to you👍🏻.
I liked you from the start couple years ago......even more now.
You asked, and I've done this myself, so... I'm not quite sure why you didn't just keep the blade centered (vs offset) behind the tractor, angled it so the right end of the blade was closest to the right tire (as viewed from the rear), and added just a touch of tilt to the blade using the 3PH side link adjustment to lower the right side of the blade so it would be a little bit lower than the left side of the blade. You'd then do a down and back pass with the right tire moving along the center of your swale's path. That would have pulled the dirt to the outside of the swale, where it could then be picked up by the bucket. Note that each subsequent pass along the swale's path would have automatically dug the swale a little bit deeper, so you may have eventually needed to level the blade's tilt using the 3PH side link to then windrow the dirt completely out of the swale without cutting it any deeper.
Exactly what I would have done. It wouldn't matter which way you angle the blade, left or right, just drive down one side of the center line and back up the other side. No reason whatsoever to offset the blade to the side.
I had forgotten about Summit. I know Courtney over at Good Works Tractors is pretty high on them. I think I had taken them off my shortlist because they hadn't gotten into my area yet. That and I already have a 25hp sub-compact. If I'm still in the market when Summit comes out with something in the 35-55hp range I might look at them again, or if I need to replace my current sub. I remember being very impressed with all the standard features.
Did you loose your fuel cap off the Hustler mower? I notices you forgot to put it back on after you fueled up! 😁 We don't miss nothin'!
Sorry to hear about your neighbor and his horse. About 2 years ago we had to have my wife's horse she had for just over 31 years put down, so I can sympathize. It was tough. You are a good man and neighbor for helping him out. Thanks Brock! 🤠
Another a great video Brock!👍🏻
I have a similar blade made by southern I believe. I had the same problem and ended up welding on some extra flat steel to the plate with the holes and adding a couple more holes. Basically making the plate a circle with holes all the way around. It allowed me to adjust it any way I wanted. For ditching it works great offset throwing dirt out. Was relatively easy addition.
That summit machine like a good built tractor
Good morning Brock. I too was wondering why you didn't swing the blade the other way to pull the dirt out of the trench and as usual you gave us the answer before we could ask the question. Could it have worked that way with a regular blade or would there have been a similar problem? I was just wondering. I am sorry to hear about your neighbor's horse. The older we get the more attached we are to our animals/pets. They are like a member of our family. Thank you for helping him. You're a good man. God bless you for that.
Morning Brock, Bill Hensley here, see you have over 123 in the private group. Just went over and signed up, pending your review..personally don't care for fakebook but i think your private group will be good and looking forward to chatting..
Hi Brock. It would be useful and save time to have a dump trailer available. Instead of shuttling bucket-loads of dirt back and forth to the pond, fill the trailer and haul fewer loads.
Nice little Tractor for 5 to 10 acres. The more horsepower, hydraulic flow and the Tractor weights, the more you can do with it. I have 50 acres and have a 70hp New Holland and 50hp John Deere. You don't think you need a bigger tractor until you do. Larger hay bails, big logs, big rocks, unloading taller trailers and putting hay bails up high, 6 foot bush hogs and heavy grapples and so on. This tractor won't be large enough. I like it and the color, it has a lot of good extras. I would like to see what size tractors Summit comes out with next. Around a 35hp to 50hp tractor would a good size......😮
Looks like a single bottom plow going one way then turn around and come back throwing the furrow outward, leaving the center trash free for a good starting point. Then use your angle blade. Drainage ditches look simple, just takes patience. Good luck 👍
@6:35 you drove off without your gas cap on Brock! Don't get dirt in that new clean gas tank of yours!!
I live in Georgia. We had a tornado come through some months back and knocked the power out for over two weeks in some places. My neighbor bought one of the 25 HP Summit tractors a short time before the tornado hit. He called me and asked if I had a spare generator that he could borrow as his was having carb issues. I told him that I had a PTO unit that I use on my 1977 Ford 1600, and it was already hooked up on the tractor as we had just used it for 3 days continuous before our power came back on. I was expecting that he would just come drive my little ford 1600 back to his house and use it, but instead he brought his new shiny Summit tractor for the task. I helped him disconnect my old 45-year-old tractor and reconnect his new Summit tractor to the PTO generator. He heads off and gets the lights on in his house and all was good... well good until sometime into the night when he said the lights went out around 1am. I get a call and he sez," can I come get the old 1600 Ford as this POS Summit engine let loose last night and oil is everywhere" I said I would bring it to him and help get it hooked up. Long story short is that my 45-year-old Ford 1600 had ran nonstop with full generator load at wide open throttle for 3 days at my house and 2 days at his house with zero problem. These cheaply made tractors are good for the weekender but may not hold up to heavy usage. We bought the Ford 1600 new and it now had 5100 hours on it. The engine and transmission are original. It is on the 3rd clutch...
Shoot there are 200 dollar generators that run for years and the summit engine should as well so this was most likely a factory defect or the generator was meant for a higher power tractor. Either way there are plenty of these tractors out there that have been worked hard for thousands of hours.
My little Ford had 22 HP when it was new 45 years ago which is 3 HP less than the neighbors 25 HP Summit. It wasn't an overload problem of the generator for sure :)@@jacobhendrickson8935
tip the bldes itself with the right tip down instead of the left tip down , put the low end of the blade in the center of where you want the swale and drive beside the ditch not in it
That's what being a neighbor is all about.
Did you mean, spill some fuel because you had a premonition that you were going to forget to install the fuel lid on your hustler?
HAHA I wondered if anybody else caught that
Me too
I have a summit and they do make an adapter for the PTO you just need to look into it before you make a judgment call just got a good works tractor he can hook you up with a nice Rototiller the summit does make a Rototiller for this tractoror
Adapter for the PTO? If it’s too long, it’s too long.
I wasn’t really passing a negative judgment.
Larger tractors need longer PTO shaft is all I was saying.
I bought an after market Tarter brand tiller for my New Holland , pto shaft was too long so simply cut it to size with a hacksaw. Works great and Tarter makes a really good tiller.
Yup. . . now I need to add a rear blade to my dream list of implements for my dream purchase of a compact tractor. Yup. Keep dreaming. Some day!! LOL
I was 38 when I bought my first machine. Now I couldn’t imagine being without it.
Would it have brought the dirt out of the swale if you had the outside of the blade trailing instead of angled forward?
I just did same thing about same distance…I used a single plow and ran it both ways to set depth then used box blade set at angle tilt and drug the sides.
I have no tiller and wonder if tilting it to loosen center more so than edges would work…then forget the sway on straight blade and set to kick out dirt to edge…use low end of blade set to inside rear tire width and set your tire in the trench. But hey…whatever works and there’s many ways to cook the chili
That is the blade i have and use it to dig ditches all the time. The angle needed to be the opposite of what was being used. No reason to push material into the ditch when the blade will pull it out.
This project could be a lot easier if you had The Ditch Box implement.
BROCK when did you notice that you didn't put your gas cap back on your HUSTLER🤔
My little Mahindra max24 had a fixed pto guard so i pulled it off drilled new holes so i could mount it back on their but i was higher up and you could get your hands in to connect disconnect the pto. Did he have it in low range or high. Looked like high the way it would just stop.
I never tried but is it possible to connect a pair of 3pt quick hitches to each other to push the tiller further back so the longer pto shaft would work on the Summit tractor?
Yeah, I wonder if they would go together
First time I noticed the Heritage Tractor dealer stickers on your 2038R. Any opinions on them? I’m in Texas, but was looking at a few of their used tractors online and thinking about driving up.
I have had very good experiences with the heritage tractor in Joplin Missouri
@@RockhillfarmYT Thanks Brock!
Summit tractor looks like a good tractor good job by the way where did you get that nice cap.
It would have taken more time but my opinion would have be to straighten out the blade a drag all the dirt up out of the center so you didn't have to worry about mess up the angle you had
What kind of tractor we see is a blue tractor with white rims in the background by the house
I am just curious
That’s my neighbor‘s old Ford tractor. I don’t know the model number on it.
@@RockhillfarmYT Thanks for the info
Ty nice
Summit is a Solis Tractor made in India good Cheap Tractor
Great video. The blue tractor in the back ground caught my eye. What brand of tractor is that?
Ford 1980s model
I would love to share a picture of my bad boy 1025 h that I have commented about before but I now have 50 hours on it and it’s been at the dealership for a month because the starter went bad very disappointing I live in north west pa and didn’t have the tractor for all the snow
Since your ground had an overall slope mostly in the direction you wanted I feel that 2 passes with a moldboard furrow plow would have accomplished what you 2 did ???
Yeah, that would’ve probably made the ditch. I don’t have any experience using one of those, but I get what you’re saying.
I also want this to be completely smooth in how it transitions if you drive across it
I think it might work
You did not put the gas cap back on the Hustler!!!
Very informative! Thanks for the vid. However, please invest in a tripod. Makes me dizzy watching.
You need to offset it all the way to one side and angle the blade and tilt the blade the blade will be about 1 ft past the outside of your tire
Yes, I did all of that but when you offset it, it can only angle certain directions. There are not holes to lock it in 360° around the bottom of the blade.
There are some angles that the blade can reach, but you can’t lock it in.
@@RockhillfarmYT I will try to send a picture to you on Facebook
My Branson 2610H has the autothrottle and when you let it off it is just like putting on the brakes
That is how mine is too. I haven’t been on a 2610 yet
@@RockhillfarmYT You should try one out. I like the auto and how it reacts when you let off. I don't think I have ever stepped onto the breaks since I bought and it has 250 hours on it now but the break setup is the only thing I hate on the tractor
What's up with the shattered mirrors on the TX25?
I was curious but I didn’t ask
Dude, you should have run a middle buster down that or at least a box blade with all the times dropped first, watching you use the tiller was painful.
The blade should turn in any direction including backwards. Not sure about your situation but if you can't turn it in the other direction due yo it hitting the tractor its because the blade length is way longer than the unit its mounted to due to undersized tractor in comparison. Definitely should be able to dismount, turn and remount.
You can spin it 360 but when we turn it the way we want it to face there are no holes to drop the pin in
@@RockhillfarmYT that's weird. Maybe double check other blades to see if they are the same or ask manufacturer. Might be a manufacturing mistake.
could have done the one side then came back the other way with the blade swung the other way to take the dirt to the top ,then come along the top and pulled it away from the top,.
Use a sub soiler or a an old mole baord plow and you life will be 20x easier.
I think a V ditcher woud work
If it stays wet get a couple bags of that dirt you put on the dame
Should have angled the blade the other way to get the dirt out of the ditch. Should have read the manual
That's because John Deere attachments are made just for John Deere
Angle your blade opposite of what you had it. That should take the dirt away from the bottom. As it was, you were pushing the dirt into the bottom.
There has to be a hole there to put the pin in
You can do that with it centered behind the tractor, but if you offset it, there’s no place to pin the blade
@@RockhillfarmYT So it only offsets to one side? That should be easily resolved by switching sides of the swell, no?
@@jaylancaster5419 it offsets to both sides.
It rotates 360°
When it’s offset though there’s not an option to pin it with it angled pushing the dirt to the outside when you put it in the center it has that option.
Basically, I feel like it needs twice as many mounting points. It’s not as simple as drilling an extra hole either.
When stuff under the blade it doesn't work as good as it should
Everything with deere is a custom fit . A rototiller from anybody else would have fit fine .
What do you mean by that? I run a wide range of implement brands and a lot of different different tractors and I don’t believe there is anything different about a John Deere three point attachment.
@@RockhillfarmYT exception , a rototiller
You've got to dig a mighty big hole to bury a horse!
I think a stump bucket would have made it quickly
Don't encourage him to abuse his loader like that idiot at Good Works Tractors.
Talky talky...jeez
Go get a real tractor and bury the summit craptor 10 feet down.
Im sure its a fine enough tractor, but dang it's ugly.
