I had this one as a Kid, hearing the Music and seeing that scrolling Text made me feel like i was playing the Movie. Yeah, Kids have a lot of Imagination.
One thing not mentioned in the background/development segment that actually aired on my local news: That asteroid stage? The SNES wasn't powerful enough to smoothly scale the asteroids in one go and keep the game from lagging _badly_ & retaining sprite detail. So, they programmed the scaling in stages - asteroid appears, scales a bit bigger, is replaced with a new asteroid just a bit bigger, scaled a bit bigger again, scaled again, etc.
Aw, heck yeah! I was waiting for this since I saw the Super Star Wars video. The Nostalgia is strong with this one, and it’s one of the few games that I’ve experienced the difficulty first hand. Thanks for this!
Remember getting this game for Christmas as a kid! I'd asked my parents for 7th Saga, and when they couldn't find a copy of it anywhere, they got this for me instead, and I'm very glad they did! Super Empire Strikes Back is still one of my favorite games on the SNES (I don't think I even finished 7th Saga when I bought it myself years later from a used game shop) and I can pick it up and replay it anytime. Beating Jedi difficulty was one of my proudest SNES accomplishments back in the day! Thanks as always for the content, and I'm looking forward to Super Return of the Jedi, and maybe the NES version of Empire too if we're lucky
1:02:10 - Also, even if you picked up only one or two Force powers, you'd still be pretty powerful. This boss seems to teach the player some strategies for using them creatively.
This is awesome! Had so many struggles with this game as a kid. These walkthroughs are amazing! Been looking forward for this but was not sure I was ready to watch someone go flying through it! Keep up the great content!
The Super Star Wars Trilogy was always the favorite part of weekends for me as a kid. Me and my Dad would just keep taking turns on all three of these games per life for every level. The only one we could ever beat was Super Return of the Jedi, but he couldn't do the Death Star II Mode 7 Escape, and I would always get close but still die. Still remember on the last life completing it finally, and me and my Dad going insane at the compressed JPG ending haha. These guides are great. I always play all three games in this trilogy every year and I've gotten Super Star Wars 1 down pretty decently now, but Empire is always the hardest one, and this guide is as concise as the small Purple Lucas arts Guide Book that they released for this game. Nice videos.
Is anyone here watching the Videos to really get some help or do you Guys just enjoy it? Many of the Games here i didnt even play, but i'm still watching the Videos about them. It's fun and relaxing.
A bit of both? Sort of. I like learning about why I utterly failed to beat these games as a kid and what I could have done differently, but at the same time I have no desire to revisit them myself so this saves me the time and energy. Too many good PC games have come out since those days and I'm never at a loss for something engaging to play. Currently hooked on Hades.
I have a Nintendo Mini and this channel has helped me beat the Ninja Gaiden games as well as the first 3 Castlevania games. Otherwise I'm just watching to watch 🤙
I remember playing this and giving up even before I finished the first level because when you said this game is difficult, that's no joke. This game pissed me off. lol. But to watch you play it and absolutely kill it brings much enjoyment. I also want to mention that I love your channel which isn't the first if it's kind but yours is unique because your commentary is so great and super helpful. You've gotten me through a lot of these games, some I've already beaten as a child, and your videos are just so entertaining. And funny at times too, I find myself laughing out loud. Thank you so much.
Everyone I know always talked about how difficult this game was. And I definitely agree. The one thing that always makes people rage quit on this one is that Hoth is WAY too stages. Way too long. You get frustrated after a third of the game has you in the same smowy setting.
The mode 7 sequences were the bane of my existence back in the day. Especially in Super Return of the Jedi, never got past that last stage because I couldn't even tell what was going on. Still, amazing series.
I haven' beaten it in ~25 years, but that stage is burned into my memory. The trick was to a) go as fast as possible, and b) rotate the Falcon with L & R to squeeze through tight spaces.
When I first found your channel a few months ago this was one of the first games I looked for and was surprised to not find it - super excited to see it pop up today; always loved this game and i feel like the first time beating Vader when I was a kid was one of my biggest gaming achievements because this game was so fricken hard and it's such an awesome boss fight. One thing I noticed you didn't mention or take advantage of in the video is that during the Battle of Hoth mode 7 i believe there is button you can press to brake your snowspeeder which slows you down considerably. I think that really helps in taking out the AT-ST walkers (usually can do it in one pass). Just wanted to throw that out there - love the channel!
This was my favorite of the 3 games on the SNES. I got so pumped after I beat Vader at the end of the game! Thanks for the hard work again, looking forward to watching this now! Super Metroid 😏?
I had the entire Super Star Wars trilogy growing up, but this was actually the first game I bought. I must have either been absurdly good at games back then, or played it ad nauseum, because I don't recall it being very tough (although I know I had difficulty with the Cloud City X-wing stage). I can't even imagine what a Super Phantom Menace or Super Force Awakens would look like!
I remember beating this game as a kid. My dad and sisters tried playing it to see if it was really as hard as my friends were saying it was when they saw me beat it. My dad from that day on no longer held himself in check when buying games. I ended up being victim to some of the hardest games from that point on.
Ever considered getting into SMW rom hacks? Like, maybe some kaizo hacks? They're too hard for me.... and I beat a bunch of hard video games as a kid....
Love your videos, new puppers is super cute it's been almost bittersweet seeing the other good boy get old. He looks so gray in the face now compared to earlier videos. Such good doggos.
I’m so glad that you chose to play this one! I’ve beaten it on the Jedi mode and you still showed me some tricks I never knew! I’m glad you didn’t get discouraged after your SNES video and went on to do this one. Your video game prowess, love for Weird Al songs and dogs and your laid back encouraging vibes will keep me watching! Thank you!
This game was brutally hard. It took me forever to beat it on easy. I would’ve never done it if it wasn’t for the password system and the 1 up farming. Great video. I appreciate it. It definitely helped me find a lot of items I needed. I wouldn’t have beaten the game without this video. When I originally had this game, I could never get by Hoth.

Great video, 12 year old me got serious blisters from this game, and that was over classic NES calluses. Still remember finally getting the hang of it and learning all the enemy patterns. Very rewarding difficulty curve.
Love your videos, Bro! As a kid, I could get to Dagobah with no cheats, but couldn’t survive long enough to make it through. I still have the game, instruction booklet, and box! Gonna give it another go! Long Live You Can Beat Video Games!!
Glad you were able to continue this and another SNES title. Like the NES library, there's just too many great games on SNES to not cover some. You didn't need to apologize, but the reasoning makes sense and the community is glad you kept the reviews going as these are made very well w lore and a dash of humor. Great job on Nightshade last episode as well! Hope you finish the Kemco series w Uninvited and eventually get to the other Quintet games and Demon's Crest. Thanks Kylo and puppers!
I remember a few weeks back when you were working on Dragon Warrior 2 Part 2 and there wasn't a video that weekend and jokingly thinking to myself "I wonder if hes attempting Super Empire Strikes Back and is having trouble beating it". It's definitely a tough game. I had it back in the day and remember how difficult it was. In fact, it's one of the reasons I decided to get a Super Nintendo. I did like it at the time, and cheat codes helped get more enjoyment out of it, but the difficulty did eventually just get too obnoxious. Despite the opportunity for nostalgia, I just don't enjoy the general gameplay or stage design of the Super Star Wars games anymore no matter how many times I give them a shot. I tried Super Return of the Jedi fairly recently, but just didn't have much fun after a few stages. But that's how it is sometimes, and I know plenty of people like these. They're definitely well made in a lot of ways. Nice to be able to see this one beaten, though.
Always enjoy your vids UCBVG. One additional note for you and your viewers: the AT-AT 'head' boss can also be beaten with a Thermal Detonator, if you're willing to take some time to farm one from the Air Assault Troopers. Grab it, run left, press X, win.
I thank my uncle for introducing me to this series. I remember watching a lot of Star Wars videos as a kid. Like the Darth Maul battle from Ep 1, and love building Lego sets of Star Wars. My favorite Star Wars games are the Force Unleashed 1 and 2. If you haven’t played them, I recommend the 2nd one. The controls in the first one are kinda unresponsive sensitive. But they still are really fun.
Thank you for posting this video game tips video. I asked you about a month or two ago if you were going to do these follow up videos to your Super Star Wars video. Thank you so much for making this video I really appreciate it, love all your videos. Thank you so very much and may the force be with you always 💙
I don't know what to call you (I guess I'll just call you Guy), but I'll tell you Guy... you are doing the Lord's work here... literally one of the _best_ video game reviewers out there. You should have / deserve over 1 million subscribers.. no joke. Thank you Guy (and keep that doggo healthy!).
Loved this game so much as a child and still do to this day. My dad and I would try to beat and get every password, and eventually did. Always loved putting in the passcode, going straight for Vader. I must add though, I do think you forgot one secret in the Carbon Freezing Chamber where you first encounter the armored droids. When you get to the first platforming section, jump off the edge and hang to the left. Before falling to your death, you’ll enter a secret room where you can get a bunch of extra 1Ups, blaster power ups, and health. Can’t remember how many, but it’s a secret area that for some may not be worth the risk, but you can always jump your way back to the top. :) Excellent video, man. I hope you do Super Return of the Jedi soon. Another favorite of mine.
This was one of my favorite SNES games other than Super Mario RPG, and other RPG titles, but it was so hard for me I never could complete the first few stages much less the entire game! Good to see all of the stages, and I just noticed that the Habogad boss was Dagobah spelled backwards! Did the run out of ideas for bosses, or was that the best they could come up with at the time? Who knows, but it’s still awesome. I love you and your content, and I let out a huge gasp when I saw the first video introducing Kylo’s new little friend a couple videos back. Speaking of what is the new little guy’s name? You’ll have to let us know. Best wishes and can’t wait to see you again next weekend!
i legit got hand cramps between attacking, evading, and spamming force heal as much as i could. needless to say, i was neither smart nor strategic as a child.
1:14:32 Random Stupid Fact Unrelated to the game (Sort of) - Kenner actually did a Transformers with 4-LOM, and he has the wrong name! Just as Hasbro switched teh names of Rumble and Frenzy, or rather the Cartoon did meaning we all now call the Purple Cassette Rumble when he is actually Frenzy, 4-LOM is actually the Robotic Bug Bounty Hunter that ended up being named "Zuckass" when the figures were released! And his Beige Counterpart is supposed to be Zuckass...
You forgot the slide move with vader and swinging back and forth when standing directly in the spot as Vader. My uncle showed me that move and you can beat all of the vaders in seconds. You can also use the force to freeze all of the garbage on the screen that vader throws at you. There’s only a certain amount that can be on the screen, so that’s one less thing to worry about…
I owned this game back in the day. I couldn't get past the first stage or two without cheats, and I always thought the Hoth life pit was inescapable. Never thought the Force moves were so easy to find also. The most distinct memory I have of this game is somehow glitching it out with the stage skip cheat. Don't even remember how it happened though, but suddenly it started to flash colors. Looking back, now that I have a better understanding of the Star Wars franchise, Luke literally jumping from a Snowspeeder to stab an AT-AT in the face would have been an awesome scene.
I love watching your videos. I've always enjoyed watching people (who knew what they were doing) play video games, way before it was a thing on youtube. And the way you describe the playthrough is really relaxing. It's just a mere request, but one day could you do Secret Of Mana?
1:24:25 Yeah sadly, after destorying the freeze chamber Han still gets frozen in carbonite and in perfect hibernation just like in the movie, Boba Fett has him in his clutches to deliver to him to Jabba The Hutt this last effort to rescue Han as Chewie.
Here are a few additional cheat codes. Entering A, A, B, B on the title screen brings up the High Score screen, and holding A + X + Y + DOWN and pressing START (during a side-scrolling stage) brings up the Sound Test menu. Also, with debug mode enabled, holding A + B + X + Y and pressing SELECT on controller 2 enables invincibility and displays your character's coordinates.
Awesome guide! I just got done playing Dagobah and thank you for pointing out where those force powers are. I ended up not getting any the first two levels so the third really helped out with your guide thank you so much. When are you going to do a guide on the NES version of this game as well as Super Return Of The Jedi? I have all five games for SNES and NES and I can't wait to see the final guides on these last couple Star Wars games thank you very much again and may the force be with you always.
Yeah brutha never give up on SNES lol ...love your channel and attention to detail in which you make them revealing most if not all of the tactics for enemies, ways to level or power up, secret farming tips , and cheats and old school button combination codes ..To some it up we know the work you put into these videos and as a child born in 85 I appreciate all the nostalgic memories # One Love My Man 💪💯
I once played through the entire game from start to finish, no debug code or passwords. Took me about 6 hours. You get the hang of it, the spin jump, etc.
God I played the HECK outta this game when I was young! The music, the graphics. OMG I loved it. Honestly, I hired it so much from my local video store that they ended up GIVING me the game AND the sequel!!! Was a shame some bastard never returned the first game tho. Wouldda got all 3 then. Ah well, time to go bathe in nostalgia for nearly 2 hours. Am I the only one that misses being able to RENT a game from a store BTW? I always found that was a great way to test a game b4 i asked the folks to buy it.
47:52 Actually if the game developers would made on this Asteroid field stage you wouldn't have to shoot the TIE Fighters and the Asteroids you would have to steer to the Falcon outmaneuver the Falcon in order to outmaneuver the TIES in Asteroid costing the TIES and The TIE pilots themselves crashing into the Asteroids and with steering outmaneuver make the Falcon doesn't Asteroids until you find the biggest where the Falcon can hide on while Han trying to make temporary repairs on the damaged hyperdrive motivator, that's what Han in the movie had to do lefted no choice, because the Falcon couldn't go jump into Hyperspace, lightspeed with the Hyperdrive motivator damage on the Falcon. 50:47 And this Hyperspace part represented what happened at the end of the movie when Lando's people on Cloud city already repaired the hyperdrive motivator on the falcon but the empire while taken over cloud city deactivate the hyperdrive and R2 reactivate it which able the Millennium Falcon to go jump into Hyperspace and made the get away and escape from the empire at the end.
48:23 Just like I said if the game designer of this game should let you as player 1 on this stage shouldn't worry about shooting in the TIES because you let the asteroids take care of since they was stupid enough to follow you in the asteroid field like they was stupid enough in the movie to follow Han, Chewie and Liea and 3PO in the millennium falcon into the asteroid field in the first place without having the IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER destroying the asteroids. But stay clear of the asteroids yourself.

I really enjoy your content as many of those games are childhood memories^^
I thank my uncle for introducing me to this series. I remember watching a lot of Star Wars videos as a kid. Like the Darth Maul battle from Ep 1, and love building Lego sets of Star Wars. My favorite Star Wars games are the Force Unleashed 1 and 2. If you haven’t played them, I recommend the 2nd one. The controls in the first one are kinda unresponsive sensitive. But they still are really fun.
I’ve been waiting for this walkthrough since you did the original Star Wars. My weekend is good now!
Thank you for posting this video game tips video. I asked you about a month or two ago if you were going to do these follow up videos to your Super Star Wars video. Thank you so much for making this video I really appreciate it, love all your videos. Thank you so very much and may the force be with you always 💙
Thanks for reminding me to get back to this series, John.
Hey, you gave Bird Vs. Camel a shoutout in the intro, nice!
Good god this game was so hard it was such an accomplishment beating it and easily in my top 10 favorite snes releases
I LOVED this game....Spent many hours and long nights playing it.....over and over.
Heh, never saw most of these levels as a kid! Fun walkthrough for the end of a long week!
"Ya know seeing this game sure brings back a few things. Yeah"- great video & great memories
Excellent video, man. I hope you do Super Return of the Jedi soon. Another favorite of mine.
Watching you play this game gives me so much anxiety. I remember playing this game as a kid and it being so hard. You make it look easy!
Darth Vader is one of the strongest bosses in any SNES games. Nicely done! Now all that's left is to finish Super Return of the Jedi!
i legit got hand cramps between attacking, evading, and spamming force heal as much as i could.
needless to say, i was neither smart nor strategic as a child.
Using a thermal detonator works well blowing up the at at walker too
well... hard to see a channel so detailed and so well-executed: awesome video, sound, description and the small cards are wonderful. Got 1 subscriber!
You forgot the slide move with vader and swinging back and forth when standing directly in the spot as Vader. My uncle showed me that move and you can beat all of the vaders in seconds. You can also use the force to freeze all of the garbage on the screen that vader throws at you. There’s only a certain amount that can be on the screen, so that’s one less thing to worry about…
Great review, as always! I was a subscriber to your channel when you reviewed Super Star Wars
Looking back, now that I have a better understanding of the Star Wars franchise, Luke literally jumping from a Snowspeeder to stab an AT-AT in the face would have been an awesome scene.
the new puppy is so cute, i love ur content I also make sure I wear my you can beat video games t-shirt every Saturday
I love watching your videos. I've always enjoyed watching people (who knew what they were doing) play video games, way before it was a thing on youtube. And the way you describe the playthrough is really relaxing. It's just a mere request, but one day could you do Secret Of Mana?
And there we go again. Thank you so much for your weekly videos. It really helps me through the week.
Great video! I noticed that Habogad is just Dagobah spelt backwards.
1:24:25 Yeah sadly, after destorying the freeze chamber Han still gets frozen in carbonite and in perfect hibernation just like in the movie, Boba Fett has him in his clutches to deliver to him to Jabba The Hutt this last effort to rescue Han as Chewie.
This was one of those games I liked playing as a kid even though I couldn't get very far.
This is really high quality content!
Thank you. This is my favorite channel. Beyond being helpful, your videos are insightful and entertaining. Please! Keep ‘em coming! You rock!
Another fantastic episode of gamers Saturday morning cartoons.
I love how when Han shoots up over his head he doesn’t even bother to look up at what he’s shooting. It’s the perfect I don’t care attitude.
I have a good feeling about this.
Honestly, I've been waiting for this
Love the videos man! Still hoping for that super Metroid play through
Super Nintendo music and sound effects are just something special!
What if i told you : I really love your dogs.
As a kid, I never found ANY of the force powers! I know I got somewhere in Cloud City a few times though, but never beat this one.
This is a great review and I love that you reached out to developers and included that info as well. Keep it up!
Yeah brutha never give up on SNES lol ...love your channel and attention to detail in which you make them revealing most if not all of the tactics for enemies, ways to level or power up, secret farming tips , and cheats and old school button combination codes ..To some it up we know the work you put into these videos and as a child born in 85 I appreciate all the nostalgic memories # One Love My Man 💪💯
yay my favourite time of the week for you tube uploads
This is my favorite Star Wars game. Even on the easy difficulty this game is no joke lol.
Great video
Yay you mentioned The Defenders of Dynatron! At least someone did!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!
This was the first game I ever beat when I was a wee lad.
I once played through the entire game from start to finish, no debug code or passwords. Took me about 6 hours. You get the hang of it, the spin jump, etc.
The improvement in the lightsaber in this one is amazing. Also this game was brutal. Never got close to beating it.
Shadows of the Empire needs to be your first N64 review. I want to see you get all of the challenge points on jedi.
I don't think this even looks fun. Holy moly. Nice job as always. Ucbvg is my favorite part of Saturday!
My first Star Wars game Was Shadows of the Empire for N64. Never played this one, but it looks great! SNES is my favorite system.
Yesssssss! Saturdays are back!
Hell of a game player
1:28:38 Nice use of Weird Al’s Yoda, which is a parody of The Kinks’ Lola
Whooooooaaaa! Who's flying this thing? LMBO 🤣🤣
1:43:22 for those you wondering
This was my first SNES game. I got it before I even got the system. It remains my absolute favorite.
I've been waiting for this one since you did the Super star wars video....awesome.
