You didn't assembly your mill correctly if you can't drop the mill head below 2 1/2". Mine cuts down too just below 1" and the woodland mills website says 1"
I'm not sure how you assembled your sawmill but my HM130Max can cut 3/4" thick with no modifications. Your power head must not be assembled correctly or something.

You assembled your mill wrong, and have done a lot of extra work that was unnecessary.
