Cell is many things but he admires strength and determination. That's why he differs from Frieza and I think that's why his story in TFS Cell in a Hell series will be interesting as they are tapping into that personality
True. And Cell does have a distinct sense of honor....even if he can "forget" that sense of honor once things start to go poorly for him (something that he perhaps inherited from Frieza?). But that being said, he very likely would have been a very easy recruit for the Tournament of Power (or possibly even the U6 Tournament, where he could possibly have been the one to face Frost and turn out to be immune to Frost's poison due to his regeneration, and Cell would then be decidedly...."displeased" that Frost stooped as low as to *cheat* in a tournament match, and he would promptly send Frost flying right out of the ring in anger).
Gine is not like other saiyans... She never would brag about her power... But her being silent and not paying any attention to everyone except frieza.... Is scary

I loved this story so much. Cell’s respect for Gina was amazing… I would of loved though if in the end Pan had been renamed to Gine because of how important Gohan’s Grandma was to him throughout his life.
Idk why but Masako’s “What if’s” are the absolute best of them all, it must be because the characters have the voices of DBZA and they actually feel somewhat believable.
I believe its a combo of his voice acting, like you said, and his and his teams stringent guidelines on db realism. Thats what makes these what is the best, and so comfortable to listen to.
It's a focus on storytelling. So many what-ifs choose changes that do nothing but make life easier for Goku but don't change the story all that much, or if they can, they choose to keep the story too similar. "What if Goku had all his powers at birth, What if Goku was locked in the Time Chamber for a hundred years?". Masako prefers to focus on how the dynamics change with new or different characters, the routes of storytelling that opens up, and the butterfly effect those changes cause, like how Nappa surviving replaces Piccolo with Kami and results in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero looking completely different from the original.
What if Raditz turned good is good, but "what if someone checked in with Raditz while they were in the afterlife, and asked "so... we cool, dude?" Is even better.

Like if he was brought back and told that Vegeta was on their side and Freeza was taken out he would most likely flip and feel like the first time that he was free. Maybe not immediately but I can see him realizing that had he just did this to begin with it would have worked out better. This is why we have what ifs. C:

I’m glad to see you branch out and do your own type of work after DBZA ended and that you can make these amazing stories. I love Gine despite with the very little scenes and screentime we see of her. So for a fanfic to have such incredible story while still staying loyal, even having the tension and drama to the original, with a happy ending of her growing old and being happy and content in her life. Very few fanfic like this bring tears to my eyes. Thank you Masako, for this absolute masterpiece. I hope I can one day draw this manga with how I interpret you describing the scenes.
The whole time I was wondering how you were nailing the voices so well. Then you did Guru's voice and it clicked. Your voices are more canon to me than the actual show now

I like to imagine that Gine and Bardock actually loved each other and their kinds, but since “soft emotions” are so against tradition that they couldn’t understand or express their feelings.
Everytime I saw Gine wanting to stop fighting I kept talking to myself "Do you think you can just pull yourself away from the equation? No...you cant just stay peaceful forever, you may be done with fighting but the fighting will never be done with you"
It’s the pacifist mindset. The idea that anyone can be violent out of their own choice even when it makes no sense to them is something they can’t wrap their head around.
Its always enjoyable when whatifers release "movies"/"full stories" once a series is completed. That way those who haven't had a chance to check out the series yet and don't want to go hunting for parts if a playlists wasn't created, get to enjoy the series. Part of me is still hoping for a crossover of the Masako-verse sometime in the future. One possible idea i could see is a muliverse hopper (someone similar to professor Paradox from ben 10 series) has to pull several blind jumps while criticality injured. They end up accidentally dragging roughly one character (example; Gine, Napa, Gohan Briefs, and a few others) from each into the R&R reality. There would be a misunderstanding and a small fight breaks out between some of the people till one saves the unconscious traveler and their fighting draws some of the R&R cast like Raditz & Goku.
I was thinking maybe King of All Frieza somehow manages to make all these timelines cross over, leading to a big conflict, kinda like in Marvel's What-If?.
Well I believe that’s what the whole purpose of the “Whatifinity” that Masako teased a few years back and..never tackled. Probably needs a bit more flesh out
I know your comment is pretty old but still. Lately I've been hoping he'd do like what if fusions or something. Like take a handful of what ifs he's done and throw them into one singular what if, so we could see characters like Captain F Frieza meet Good boy Raditz
The prologue that explores Bardock x Gine was *AWESOME!* ...My only issue is that I can't see Bardock being so... talkative n sauve. He strikes me more of the ineffectual loner type with Gine being the more aggressive one towards pursuing a relationship, by Gine standards I mean. ...At least up until he bangs her.

I’m just glad you didn’t give Gine a death and funeral scene at the end too. That would’ve broken me too much. Especially after what happened to Grandpa Gohan in this what if.
I was so enthralled with this story I listened to it from start to finish in one sitting and let me tell you: You did justice to Gine more than I thought possible. You and your team are the best DB channel on UA-cam.
Raditz in this if timeline is actually pretty awesome Since he is smarter than most Saiyans he is already powerful in his wits and really is the best brother you could ask for
In about 4 hours, you've managed to create a story more interesting to me then *every single Dragon Ball Movie ever made*. And the only word that comes to mind at the end: Gine is BEST MAMA.

Just rewatched the Broly movie (for the twelfth time) and I wanted to see if there was something about Gine. Found this, and it’s one of the TFS OGs. Man you don’t know how happy this made a fan of you and you guys work
It Wouldve been So great to see this storyline become a reality. its so much better and it would be mind blowing to see goku's mom in action and to see her character development
For some reason I felt quite sad(and cried a little) when you monologed Grandpa Gohan death and ceremory. I don't know how you did it when I never watched any DB or DBZ episodes. You truly are a great narator and you have my respect.
I had 2 issues with this. #1. No Piccolo :< #2. No 18 and Marron :< I get the reasons why, they're just among my favorites. :3 Overall though this was great, I love how how she changed a lot of things. And I loved her relationship with Goku/Raditz and their family. :3
I really wonder how the Tournament of Power would have played out in this timeline. Universe 7's team would have to be radically different compared to the canon team, since so many characters would simply be unavailable. (SPOILERS BELOW) Presumably Raditz and Android 16 could fill in for the missing Android 17 and 18 slots (since they were never revived after Cell was destroyed, and there wasn't any character development for the Androids to justify using the Dragon Balls), but this timeline doesn't really have anyone new to fill in for Piccolo. They could try to recruit Kami (since he has de-aged and done *some* training during the Saiyan arc) but Kami is also significantly weaker than Piccolo would be at this point of Super (since Kami would never have merged with Nail during the Namek saga, and couldn't merge with Piccolo since Piccolo was never born). It's also very debatable whether this timeline's Goku would even recruit Frieza for the tournament, given Goku's more personal reason for hating him (deeper connection to his Saiyan heritage, AND Frieza going after his mom rather than his friend). That would also leave an open slot that would need to be filled.
Here's my theory on that (SPOILER) I think the original Team would be almost the same. Considering that the Buu saga is basically tge same, we can assume that we ended up with good Buu at the end. The only replacement needed would them be for Piccolo and Raditz can totally take the role. Then, when it come for the added members, we can keep most of the same members. Since ot's already a what if story, we can even found an argument to have Buu not falling asleep before the tournament and keeping him in the team. We would still need to replace Android 17 and 18 though. Android 16 could take one spot. As for the other, it would be taken by a resurrected villain. Not Frieza, but Cell. I recon that Cell would be a much better choice here than Frieza for a few reason, the main one being that he had a less hostile view on the Sayan that Frieza (except Vegeta) and vice versa (except Vegeta).
Every time I think about Bardock I just imagine him watching Goku from Hell going "THAT'S KAKAROT!! THAT'S MY BOY! YES! YEEES!! THAT'S MY BOOOOYYYYYY!!" It always makes me smile thinking about that~ As a side note, I'm glad Raditz got together with Launch again. It's nice seeing them together because they are absolutely oerfect for each other~
The only reason Gine didn't go with Goku, is because her character wasnt written at the time that Toriyama made Goku an alien. Theoretically, there is no reason why Gine couldnt had gone with Goku.
Oh gosh, I'm someone who enjoys the characters of Dragonball more than the fights (as fun as they are) so hearing this scenario for the first time was incredible. I especially liked Raditz turning good and training Gohan.

I've been following you for maybe 3 years. Watching your What Ifs has been a treat. I'd lost track of this What If a few episodes in... And I'm so glad I got back to it with this video. It's lovely. It's more character driven than probably anything we've ever gotten in DBZ. It's so completely compelling. I even cried a few times, near the end. Def my fav What If of yours so far. Keep up the great work!
So currently my top five go like this: Revelation F, Dragon ball R&R, what if Gine went to earth with Goku, What if Nappa turned good, and what if Raditz went to earth instead of Goku. I'd be so happy to see any of them be turned into a proper series, I hope we can get a series and more of Gine being best mom

May i ask a question? I understand the raw mentality of a Sayian to an extent. However, it still stands that Bardock had the potential for change. With that said, if he had somehow survived his big encouter with frieza and found his way to earth, would we have another world strongest on our hand. This time, in the father division? Would Bardock also find the ways earth calming and make his place here with his son? ...i would understand if this is a bit of a strange idea, but its something that crossed my mind.
With all the material in this video, Dragon Ball would’ve become even more legendary than it is now. Love the original but if there was ever a remake of Dragon Ball, this would be the best way to remake it
6 months late, but to anyone wondering how Cell has Frieza's DNA, there's an answer to that. Let's assume the timeline seen in this video is Timeline A, Trunk's Timeline is timeline B, but Cell comes from a timeline C where Frieza probably did go to Earth
41:44 I wonder why it's treated as a given that Kakarot wouldn't want to go to space? It's already been proven he loves adventure and saiyans aren't known for being responsible parents.
One thing I've thought about over time in regards to Kakarot in this what-if... Even though he'd still be the sweet, caring kid he was in canon, he'd probably still have stronger Saiyan instincts so he'd probably be more in-line with the good natured, sporting fightmonger we see him eventually become in Super throughout the whole storyline. I don't think that would change that much since fights tended to come to Goku, but I can see him being a bit more thrilled than normal, keeping in high spirits even during the most serious of fights and possibly freaking some people out as a result over how he could enjoy that.
I love this story. though I do wish Gine could have gotten one last meeting with Bardock, either when she finally passed on, or when she is on the brink of death but Bardock somehow appears to her in a vision from the afterlife and pushes her to keep fighting (in his own stubborn saiyen way)
I like to listen to what if stories while I work. I've probably listened to this one 10 times now, and it never gets old. This is a truly wonderful and well voiced story.
I love this what if story! It made me really like Gine! When she was first introduced in minus and when it showed her and Bardock being lovey dovey I rolled my eyes. I felt like minus was copying superman's story. But you make your what if story closer and more in character to dbz Saiyan lore which is awesome! I wish it were canon. Oh, and I love the art in the video. 😍
This story was so damned interesting I could 100% it could fit in with plot if Toriyama were to make another thing like “Super Dragon Ball GT” maybe? This story, and the Ultra Vegito story that CallMeArj did has seriously opened up my eyes to “What-ifs” and makes me happy that there are ideas brought to this great anime. Thanks for this art piece! The Ultra Vegito one was so awful, this one is a literal masterpiece compared to it, that CallmeARJ one is so horrible man, it's everything that's wrong with those generic and poorly written fanfictions.
49:00 at this moment I immediately imagined Gine sacrificing her life to save Gohan, with Kakarot arriving just in time to see this happen, and it really ruffles his Jammie’s, to the point where he goes super saiyan already
I think Goku should still have been the first to go super sayian. Having Gine transform first takes the impact away of Goku being the strongest sayian and being the legend. This is a little more a a personal preference, but it would have been neat for Gohan(Gokus son) to be named Goku because Goku remained as Kakarat.
He was always ever gonna name his son Gohan, he was never ever gonna name him anything else unless he married Bulma or something. And yes it's your personal preference, I don't think it took anything away from the story and was only the natural outcome of the arc.
Great story as it has done 2 things to me. Story reminded me of my mom. She was a bit of the same where she was never one for confrontation, but always stepped up when she needed to. We also used to do a lot together from travelling to games, but just like the fighting, she slowly had to give in from the games when they got way to advance for her as she was never a full fledged gamer. Also impressed you made my fave (Vegeta) very unlikable here, while keeping him true to his character. Due to the turn of events and how he's always been, he would've done those exact things not knowing that he wasn't dealing with your average saiyan.
Whoa, guys I recently just thought of something. What if Pan in the original Z timeline was a reincarnation of Gine? Not meaning as in a What If idea, I mean if it actually is the case? Though, that would be a *but* weird, I guess, since that would essentially mean Goku is his mother's reincarnation's grandfather.
Gine definitely got the good life she deserved. Though it does make the beginning of GT even worse. If Kakarot can't kick time's butt for pressing the Gine button, there's no point in letting him dodge the same fate. Let him take up the Orange and Yellow, nurture Pan's power. Let him see his own granddaughter gain a family, and then let him have the ending he'd enjoy, going out in a blaze of glory, just as his mother was allowed to do so in peace, leaving Gohan Jr. to inherit the role of Guardian. Gohan would retire from the role of Guardian as soon as his daughter was fully prepared to take over, focusing exclusively on the role of teacher as hadn't occured since his namesake took in the last Saiyans. And the cycle would continue. They are, after all, the Sons of Earth
EDIT: The senior-most generation of three, the Educators/Advisors, would eventually take on Gohan or Gine as a title, and the middle generation, the Guardians, would take on Goku as a title. Maybe Pan or Videl for a woman. The youngest would only need their personal names.

Dragon Ball UA-camrs tend to suffer from power level brain rot and ignore the character aspect of the series. Masako is just a good storyteller.

I really wonder how the Tournament of Power would have played out in this timeline. Universe 7's team would have to be radically different compared to the canon team, since so many characters would simply be unavailable.
(SPOILERS BELOW)
Presumably Raditz and Android 16 could fill in for the missing Android 17 and 18 slots (since they were never revived after Cell was destroyed, and there wasn't any character development for the Androids to justify using the Dragon Balls), but this timeline doesn't really have anyone new to fill in for Piccolo. They could try to recruit Kami (since he has de-aged and done *some* training during the Saiyan arc) but Kami is also significantly weaker than Piccolo would be at this point of Super (since Kami would never have merged with Nail during the Namek saga, and couldn't merge with Piccolo since Piccolo was never born).
It's also very debatable whether this timeline's Goku would even recruit Frieza for the tournament, given Goku's more personal reason for hating him (deeper connection to his Saiyan heritage, AND Frieza going after his mom rather than his friend). That would also leave an open slot that would need to be filled.
Here's my theory on that
(SPOILER)
I think the original Team would be almost the same. Considering that the Buu saga is basically tge same, we can assume that we ended up with good Buu at the end. The only replacement needed would them be for Piccolo and Raditz can totally take the role.
Then, when it come for the added members, we can keep most of the same members. Since ot's already a what if story, we can even found an argument to have Buu not falling asleep before the tournament and keeping him in the team. We would still need to replace Android 17 and 18 though.
Android 16 could take one spot. As for the other, it would be taken by a resurrected villain. Not Frieza, but Cell. I recon that Cell would be a much better choice here than Frieza for a few reason, the main one being that he had a less hostile view on the Sayan that Frieza (except Vegeta) and vice versa (except Vegeta).
Every time I think about Bardock I just imagine him watching Goku from Hell going "THAT'S KAKAROT!! THAT'S MY BOY! YES! YEEES!! THAT'S MY BOOOOYYYYYY!!"
It always makes me smile thinking about that~
As a side note, I'm glad Raditz got together with Launch again. It's nice seeing them together because they are absolutely oerfect for each other~

With that said, if he had somehow survived his big encouter with frieza and found his way to earth, would we have another world strongest on our hand. This time, in the father division? Would Bardock also find the ways earth calming and make his place here with his son? ...i would understand if this is a bit of a strange idea, but its something that crossed my mind.

One thing I've thought about over time in regards to Kakarot in this what-if... Even though he'd still be the sweet, caring kid he was in canon, he'd probably still have stronger Saiyan instincts so he'd probably be more in-line with the good natured, sporting fightmonger we see him eventually become in Super throughout the whole storyline. I don't think that would change that much since fights tended to come to Goku, but I can see him being a bit more thrilled than normal, keeping in high spirits even during the most serious of fights and possibly freaking some people out as a result over how he could enjoy that.
I love this story. though I do wish Gine could have gotten one last meeting with Bardock, either when she finally passed on, or when she is on the brink of death but Bardock somehow appears to her in a vision from the afterlife and pushes her to keep fighting (in his own stubborn saiyen way)
How much would the community need to raise to get a like whole book about this

I felt like minus was copying superman's story. But you make your what if story closer and more in character to dbz Saiyan lore which is awesome! I wish it were canon. I think Goku should still have been the first to go super sayian. Having Gine transform first takes the impact away of Goku being the strongest sayian and being the legend.
This is a little more a a personal preference, but it would have been neat for Gohan(Gokus son) to be named Goku because Goku remained as Kakarat.
He was always ever gonna name his son Gohan, he was never ever gonna name him anything else unless he married Bulma or something.
And yes it's your personal preference, I don't think it took anything away from the story and was only the natural outcome of the arc.

Great story as it has done 2 things to me.
Story reminded me of my mom. She was a bit of the same where she was never one for confrontation, but always stepped up when she needed to.
We also used to do a lot together from travelling to games, but just like the fighting, she slowly had to give in from the games when they got way to advance for her as she was never a full fledged gamer.
Also impressed you made my fave (Vegeta) very unlikable here, while keeping him true to his character. Due to the turn of events and how he's always been, he would've done those exact things not knowing that he wasn't dealing with your average saiyan.

Gine definitely got the good life she deserved. Though it does make the beginning of GT even worse. If Kakarot can't kick time's butt for pressing the Gine button, there's no point in letting him dodge the same fate. Let him take up the Orange and Yellow, nurture Pan's power. Let him see his own granddaughter gain a family, and then let him have the ending he'd enjoy, going out in a blaze of glory, just as his mother was allowed to do so in peace, leaving Gohan Jr. to inherit the role of Guardian. Gohan would retire from the role of Guardian as soon as his daughter was fully prepared to take over, focusing exclusively on the role of teacher as hadn't occured since his namesake took in the last Saiyans. And the cycle would continue. They are, after all, the Sons of Earth
EDIT: The senior-most generation of three, the Educators/Advisors, would eventually take on Gohan or Gine as a title, and the middle generation, the Guardians, would take on Goku as a title. Maybe Pan or Videl for a woman. The youngest would only need their personal names.
