    My family have been DVC members since Key West opened and we have always loved it. Olivia's is great for breakfast and I agree with you there fried chicken is so good. The cast members are so nice, and the members that work the kids activities are always the best. Since I basically grew up staying there, it is my favorite resort out of them all. Definitely would recommend staying here, and if your a golfer it is a good course to play on. The vacation houses are ginormous, and are set up like apartments, some even have multiple floors, and all have full sized kitchens. Whether you get a two bedroom or 4 bedroom they are all great. I can remember every time we stayed there I got a balloon animal and I would be so happy. It is hands down in my opinion my favorite resort, and I always like how it is quiet and calm, and you feel relaxed when you are away from the park.

    Apologies in advance for the length of this, but I gotta say it! THANK YOU for making these vlogs! I worked at Disney World for almost a year doing the Disney College Program and it was the best 9 months of my life. Getting to make magic for the guests that came to the parks - whether it was their first time or they came every day like you guys do - was great, but my favorite part of the whole experience was getting to explore the parks in-depth and enjoy things that most people on a busy vacation might miss. I got to do so much while I was there and still didn't get to do everything I wanted! My friends and I had a mission to swim in every Disney hotel pool while we were there (that didn't happen), to visit all four parks in one day (that did happen), I got hooked on pin trading, and finding the limited time magic events like when the Main Street Quartet did a Backstreet Boys medley or some rare characters came out for pictures were highlights of my time there. I miss it dearly, but after finding this channel a month or so ago, I feel like I'm right back in my college program finding something new every day. I love how you guys try everything, ride the underrated but awesome rides (Living with the Land, heeeeey), and point out tiny details that most people walk right by. People like you made my day when I was working there, genuinely happy and excited and willing to engage with me and my fellow cast members. I'm always so excited to see what each day has to offer, whether it's a resort tour or a holiday party, or a park that isn't on Disney property or even just a home vlog! They're all great and you two have a chill, funny, and relatable way of vlogging that is so charming and wonderful I can't even put it into words. So thank you both for these vlogs and making me feel the Disney magic every single day, even all the way in Massachusetts. Now it's time to pay the price!

    This made me so homesick for Old Key West! We loved our stay there last Sept/Oct. We were right beside the hospitality house and could see the fireworks from Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Some folks really hate on this resort, but we really enjoyed it.

    • @kettmanna
      @kettmanna 7 років тому

      People seem to hate because it isn't "Disney enough" which like Tim said makes you feel like your not in Disney but in a beach town which is what I like best about it.

    My parents are DVC members. We've been a DVC family since I think 1993 or 1994 so Old Key West is our home resort. I remember taking the boat to downtown disney (disney springs) as a kid and also doing activities at the community hall. We usually end up staying near the Turtle pool, but sometimes we'd take the bus or walk down to the main pool if we wanted to take part in the special activities or use the waterslide. Last time we played table tennis it was free to borrow the equipment, but I haven't been since 2015. The golf course has actually had some famous players play there. I remember my grandfather meeting Tiger Woods back in the 90s when he has playing there.

    Stayed there Christmas 2010 and it is a lovely resort and does feel you are away from the madness of Disney for a little while. We had a balcony and a jacuzzi tub in our room and had a mini living room with the usual washing facilities. Top tip if you do stay there....ask to have a room away from the bus stop, early morning till later on in the evening you can hear the hydraulics of doors opening and closing of the bus doors.

      Old Key West is big, but the buses for the parks travel through it to multiple stops. You can take them from where your staying to the front and back. Or stay on to go to the park of your choice. I have stayed there twice. Nice place for people that like someplace quite to go to after the park. And travel to most parks take the about the same time.

      its great for people who prefer to use their car since you can park right outside your room. Especially if you have someone who cant walk too much/uses a wheelchair. We are DVC owners and our home resort is Old Key West. It’s a vacation in itself. We love it there. The rooms are bigger than other DVC properties because it was the original DVC resort. You park just outside your room which is super convenient. To respond to your mosquito question I have to say we’ve stayed in several different times of the year and have had no problem with any bugs including mosquitoes. And I’d know because I am a skeeter magnet. Those fountains keep the water moving which helps deter them. You’ll love staying there! Spending the morning on the balcony/porch watching the ducks & squirrels is so very relaxing. Y’all should definitely stay there. Look into renting DVC points to save money on your stay. Enjoy!

    We walked to the Turtle Shack pool along the path with the beautiful views of road works as we stayed in building 49. My husband played golf there too - it’s the Lake Buena Vista course that is spread over OKW and Saratoga Springs. It was just over $100 to play including club hire and a cart. Tip- if anyone is planning to play, scout around the area for a few days beforehand - my husband found all the golf balls he needed lying around and only bought a few Mickey ones! Also don’t be put off thinking you have to walk everywhere - we used the buses like a shuttle service so travelled in air conditioned comfort! Great video Tim that brought back super memories. The boat rides make trips to Disney Springs so nice and convenient. Olivia's is one of the most underrated restaurants on property. It's such a relaxing resort. Just went back in June and I cannot wait for my next trip there. Btw... I am a runner and that trail is my favorite running trail I've ever been on, I normally can't run outside but I feel so good after finishing a run on that trail. Metal roofs are great. If installed properly they are very strong against hurricanes and bad weather. If your attic is properly insulated there is no extra noise or heat from the roof. They look great and last a long long time.

    Love your videos, Tim. We've just booked for OKW next year. I love the lack of overt Disney theming but still with the Disney quality, it makes it feel like two holidays in one. The intensity of the parks with a relaxed, deluxe resort to go back to and recharge.

    We love OKW. It was the first of the DVC Resorts we stayed in and remains a definite go-to. You hit on some of the reasons why: bigger rooms, relaxed atmosphere, pleasant surroundings. When I played golf, I enjoyed Lake Buena Vista Golf Course. I'd call my wife from the course so that I could wave to her and our kids (when they were toddlers) while I passed. Lots of memories there and we look forward to going again.

    Was lucky enough to stay here a couple year ago on my first ever WDW trip, set the bar pretty high! The rooms are definitely more 'apartments' than standard hotel rooms, we had our own kitchen, spa bath and separate shower, laundry room etc.. and our balcony overlooked the lake looking toward the main pool area, bliss! Probably the nicest accommodation I've stayed in but it's only really worth it if you are going to spend some time at the resort too, as we were more park based so probably didn't utilise it fully.

    We live in upstate New York and opted for the steel roof. We get pounded with snow in the winter and the sun helps heat up the steel and helps the snow slide off the roof.

    We stayed at Old Key West last year and loved it. The room was very large compared to other DVC resorts except Vero Beach. ODW and Vero were the first DVC properties. Since then the room size and layouts have changed. The only problem with Old Key West is the lack of elevators. We were on the second floor. My wife has a problem climbing steps, so we only went out once a day. So if anyone is planning to stay there they should take that into account. I've since learned that some of the vacation homes have elevators, but most don't.

    The Banana Bread French Toast at Olivia's is amazing. Other's prefer some of the other options, but this is my go to every time I stay there! One perk for those staying in a studio room is that instead of a bed and a pull out couch, OKW is the only DVC property that has two queen sized beds.

    We put a metal roof on our house around 4 years ago, and it works fine. They screwed the metal on over top of the shingles that were on the roof and I think that's why the noise is softer when it rains here in East North Carolina. A friend of mine down in New Orleans had a metal roof on his shed with just wood under it and it was loud when it rained. Our metal roof has helped to lower the cost of heating and cooling too.

    Me and my family stayed at okw in April 2017 and we had a 1 bed apartment. The rooms are nice, with a jucuzi tub with a separate bathroom. They have there own living area with room for pull out sofas, and a great view outside of the golf course. The mousekeeping wear amazing, staff wear Lovly. We will stay again the next time we are in Disney . The bus rides are not long, you can even see fire works from magic kingdom. This is such a relaxing resort, the stage area is for a out door movie.
