They're almost certainly cutting songs. "Something Bad," was spoken in this trailer, which I think is an indication that it won't be sung in the movie. That being said, I think they'll most likely add songs too.

At first when I heard Glinda talking, I thought I was hearing Kristen Chenoweth, which I am not mad at. Overall, I'm very pleased so far with what I see. John Chu is an amazing visionary. Kudos to the entire cast & crew.

This trailer has me SO pumped! The visuals are incredible. Ariana's delivery is very much channeling Kristin Chenoweth's Glinda while keeping it her own. Cynthia is a powerhouse. Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Blum are smart choices, too. Also there's no way they're making it a single movie now. Universal is definitely banking on each half raking in money this holiday season and next. I have a feeling that the naming convention will be "Wicked" for the first and something like "Wicked: Act II" or "Wicked: For Good" for the second movie.
The “Part 1 and Part 2” thing is because director Jon M Chu refused to cut any songs and Universal refused to let him make this a like close to 3 hours/3 hour+ epic like something like Dune because they’re trying to market it to families. While you might say “the show is able to tell its story in under 3 hours in a 2 act structure”, they were always going to pull from the original book as well as add new things of their own. That was inevitable. I do love that they made Dr Dillamond a fully CGI goat. I don’t know why I expected Peter Dinklage to just wear a costume like in the snow 😂
I'm honestly SO excited that both Act 1 and Act 2 are going to be around 2 hours long each because the book has SO much depth politically that the musical never covered. It should be a fresh and amazing concept this time around and I can't wait!
This is Part 1. Warner Brothers did the same thing with IT & Dune...they left off the number until the end. As far as the singing...Studios get nervous advertising movies as musicals. They did it with Into The Woods, Greatest Showman & Wonka. For my money...we got more vocals than I expected. Can't wait for November.

I love that they’re breaking it into two parts mixing the musical/book elements, & considering Jon m chu directed in the heights & had to cut songs the decision for wicked to be cut for me is so great!
so my guess is that it will definitely end with defying gravity, and for part 2 they will probably implement a lot of things from the book. mind you, the book is very different from the musical. night and day difference. so there's a lot of directions they could go. very curious to see if they will do new original music too
Still two parts... There was so much of the original treatment left out of the stage show, and now, they have a chance to do the whole thing, sub-plot and all... It was my favourite movie to have ever worked on, out of over 60 spanning more than 30 years! Jon was wonderful...

It is still in two parts. They are also going to use story from the book that wasn’t in the play and some songs that were cut from the play plus a few new ones from what I have seen. Those new ones could be just what was cut possibly.
At first I wasn't sure about it being split into two parts but if you think about it, the musical itself is split into two different acts. It technically makes sense but who knows if that'll translate well to cinema. I certainly hope it does! This show was what got me so invested in musical theatre.

Early in the week i saw the producers interviews and clearly there's Part 2.... because you may have noticed that a whole slew of characters haven't been introduced yet....like the Scarecrow, Tin man, Lion, and forgot the other one....dang it!!! Anyways, I don't get why Glinda (an adult) was sorta surprised that Alphaba was GREEN... especially because the play showed that they knew each other when they were very young ..and since Alphaba's mother gave birth to Alphaba via an affair she had with the Wizard (i think that's the storyline)....so that makes the Wizard, Alphaba's Father!!! I think...and since it's a small town I'm sure the gossip news traveled real fast about the green baby produced via the Wizards affair ,!!!!

And yes, the film has been divided into two parts, with Part One concluding with Defying Gravity. It looks fantastic though Universal is still downplaying the fact that it is indeed a full blown musical. Notice that none of the characters are seen singing in this trailer, which is rather odd to me. Musicals have a hit or miss reputation within the film industry and the marketers tend to downplay the fact that people will indeed be singing on screen. Since the songs are such an integral part of the show, it still seems odd to me than no one was shown singing. Part Two will be released on November 26th, 2025, a year following Part One which will be released on November 27th of this year. Winnie Holzman who adapted the Gregory Maguire novel chose to make it family friendly. The novel has elements that veer into X rated territory and the last thing the Broadway producers wanted was a show that excluded young people. A non-musical mini-series of the WICKED book is being adapted for television and will definitely not be aiming for a children’s audience. Salma Hayek’s production company will be producing it.

I have watched it like a million times, since it dropped.) but I THINK it they were two make it two parts, they should stop with Defying Gravity. Its a deeply emotional power ballad, much like Memory from Cats. I listened to the full version from Idina Menzel, and got CHILLS from it. I was crying. Anything after this song would be overshadowed if they didn't do it exactly right. If you end the first movie with that powerful song, it will be a triumph. It has been AWHILE since a movie has impressed me this much. I think this movie was created with love and passion and enthusiasm, by people who CLEARLY and DEEPLY care about Wicked and the characters and the story and the songs and they KNOW its a tossup, on whether a Broadway musical will work as a movie (i.e. 2019 Cats, for example) and this trailer is their way of assuring us that they got this. This isn't about awards or selling pretty toys....this is a love letter to Wicked and I feel like it honors it. I would be curious to hear the actresses response to how positively the fans have embraced this trailer. Maybe have Idina Menzel do Defying Gravity over the end credits as a tribute to the original Elphaba.
It’s definitely two parts. There’s only about 5 seconds of stuff that could be considered part of the second act of the show (like the smoking hat in the water) and those could be “flash forwards.” Wicked Part 2 will be out November 26, 2025.
I would definitely say it’s Part 1 - the only reason is because we would have gotten As Long As You’re Mine and For Good footage (even if not the audio). Either way, I’m here for it.
It absolutely is going to still be two parts yes. This trailer was focused on the first half, they plan on ending it at Defying Gravity. I don’t have a problem with two parts really, except part 2 is a year wait, Thanksgiving 2025. In fact I didn’t see anything in the story that went past Defying Gravity in this trailer. I think the bit with the burning of the giant wooden effigy of Elphaba is the beginning of the movie with “No One Mourns the Wicked”, and the bit in the trailer with Glinda in the bubble is her intro scene there.
yeah i wonder if there's still a possibility of them having to do reshoots and thats why Ariana can't dye her hair back yet cuz originally she wasn't intending on releasing music during this time i think for that reason so ppl can separate the popstar from the character-- but she was right about her shedding away that image and really transforming into the character

Anybody complaing about not showing actors singing from this trailer should realize previous musicals movies never shows singing from trailers, Even Barbie movie never showed I"m just Ken song from there trailers until few weeks before movie released online. Enjoyed your reaction here Cam :)
My theory is that the first film will end on a very somber note with Thank Goodness. Part II will open as a full remake to The Wizard of Oz and it will be TWOZ intercut with the second half of the musical and book for Wicked. I work in Hollywood and that's the only reason they really have to split this into two parts. They are making a full TWOZ remake within Wicked 2.

Ok so I lost control watching it, it was sooo good, I think that Hollywood will want to get as much money as they can for the story so it’s probably still a part 2 but perhaps it doesn’t cut midway like the show. The book is DEFINITELY darker themed, im half way through the book and it doesnt go into all the magic stuff and galinda was pretty snotty especially after certain events took place, no spoilers, and elphaba was mean, but you understand it cause of where she comes from how her parents were towards her, it doesnt give her the right to be that way, but it makes sense why she is
I'm really intrigued to see how Ariana presents Glinda given that Glinda is usually so bubbly and over the top, yet in this trailer it appears shes a little more toned down. It'll be interesting to see how the juxtaposition of the two characters feels given the stark contrast of the bubbly energetic Glinda to Elphaba's more serious and neutral character that I think does a great job at showing another side of how truly different the two are

why do you feel the need to comment this on every wicked trailer video? you're entitled to your opinion, but ariana's glinda is more reminiscent of the earlier glinda's, that played the role in a more subtle way compared to the over the top nature of how she's played these days. she doesn't have to be crazy to be good. also, i don't really see how dove cameron would be any better, her acting is also pretty subtle.

Full disclosure: I've never seen the show, but I love the Oz books and this looks very interesting.
The first book, Wicked, is very good. I need to reread them all, but Son of a Witch wasn’t bad, and Lion Among Men was just awful to me.

I dont know much Wicked the story in it but this looks good. I know only was the song Defying Gravity.

Ok so I lost control watching it, it was sooo good, I think that Hollywood will want to get as much money as they can for the story so it’s probably still a part 2 but perhaps it doesn’t cut midway like the show. We shall see. I loved that I could forget it was Ariana grande too, I was worried this would all be horrific and so far it’s looking EPIC - told my whole family not to bother me during thanksgiving lmao
I was very nervous and kind of annoyed about Ariana being casted but i stand corrected. She truly sounds amazing and looks like she’s going to kill role! Can’t wait!!
It looked like a part 1. I didn’t rlly see anything from act 2 besides the witches hat.

The book is DEFINITELY darker themed, im half way through the book and it doesnt go into all the magic stuff and galinda was pretty snotty especially after certain events took place, no spoilers, and elphaba was mean, but you understand it cause of where she comes from how her parents were towards her, it doesnt give her the right to be that way, but it makes sense why she is
I'm really intrigued to see how Ariana presents Glinda given that Glinda is usually so bubbly and over the top, yet in this trailer it appears shes a little more toned down. It'll be interesting to see how the juxtaposition of the two characters feels given the stark contrast of the bubbly energetic Glinda to Elphaba's more serious and neutral character that I think does a great job at showing another side of how truly different the two are

Personally loved Ariana in this trailer. I think she's going to kill it.
Unfortunately I think they showed too much of Defying Gravity stuff because I do think it's gonna end there

I’m sorry but I’m still not convinced by Ariana’s acting , she’ll sound incredible and she looks amazing but I don’t see the *pop* that glinda is known for, I still think dove Cameron would’ve been the perfect glinda

why do you feel the need to comment this on every wicked trailer video? you're entitled to your opinion, but ariana's glinda is more reminiscent of the earlier glinda's, that played the role in a more subtle way compared to the over the top nature of how she's played these days. she doesn't have to be crazy to be good. also, i don't really see how dove cameron would be any better, her acting is also pretty subtle.
