A thought... Not only was I raised by a mechanic, but our shop was on my great-grandfather's farm. We had a 500 gallon diesel tank, which we would order refills as needed. We used it for our farm equipment and local-haul road trucks (in MS, those are free of road taxes...so that was also fair game for us). The local petroleum storage/exchange would send a tanker out with "farm" diesel... Exact same stuff as road diesel, but not taxed. Therefore cheaper. Due to being non-taxed, it's illegal to run in a road vehicle. If you're serious about the mobile delivery, and if the majority of your orders are for offroad... you might look into buying a large storage tank for farm diesel. I haven't been exposed to that side of things in many years, but I would imagine you could increase your profits after paying off the tank.
In Texas a friend of mine bought a big diesel generator on a trailer to run his business when power went out. To get the tax abatement you spoke of, he had to remove the wheels from his trailer--Texas is serious about this issue. He also told me the color of the fuel is different, one color for farm style and another for commercial diesel.
@TheDigitaldoug They put red dye in the farm diesel here. None in road-taxed diesel. Good to know about TX, though. I wonder if they are calling road diesel "commercial fuel"...which wouldn't necessarily be exclusive to motor vehicles? Either way, that's really crappy for the state to be that way.
