    Would you make diamonds or just have the strips going in all kinds of random directions?

    • @NolaTheAlamoChiliQueen
      @NolaTheAlamoChiliQueen 2 роки тому +4

      Random! Kinda reminds me of the Chopsticks quilt pattern.
      Great video, I like that you are not afraid to change as you go and try new ideas. Keep up the great work, your quilts are wonderful.

    I’m in the process of cutting out squares of my old jeans to make my first ever quilt. You said something so profound 11:32 “try and make it a straight line; but if it’s not, ya know, we’re not going to stress” no mistakes, only happy little accidents! Thanks for saying that!

    • @ScrapFabricLove
      @ScrapFabricLove  7 місяців тому +1

      There is absolutely no rule that it has to be straight! Plenty of improv quilters aim for not straight on purpose. So if it all goes ‘wrong’ just do more of the same and call it intentional! Have fun!

    Several ideas came to mind.
    Any large scrap squares ⬛ or scrap strip in any random combination.
    Gees I have all the material needed for this. But leg strips from denim jeans 👖 from thrift stores is ideal.
    I make bags 🎒 from the jeans tops. Nothing is ever wasted.
    As I noted in your comment, ideal for any size project from drink 🍸 coaster, mug rug, placemat, zipper pouch 👝 to cushion cover. I am so into funky styles and colours.
    The idea of using my ribbon 🎀 and ric rac collection could make some fun textural colours and elements.
    I prefer stitch and flip and pressing scraps in advance. I'm sure everyone will have their own sewing preferences.
    I like the variety of angles. Perfect matching would drive me nuts.
    I look forward to seeing the next episode.
    Cheers from the Harris home in Geraldton Western Australia

    Already commented but then This popped in my mind. Decades ago when I graduated from high school, my aunt made me a beach throw out of old denim pieces. It was a lot like this except the pieces were random like a crazy quilt and there was no Quilting it was just that one layer of denim. I Loved that quilt kept it in my car and it went everywhere with me. Lots of great memories on the beach. Wish I still had it, so maybe I can do a re-creation.

    I keep coming back to this quilt! I think I have to make one like it. A local church thrift shop had jeans on sale for $.50 each! I grabbed 11 of them in the biggest sizes I could find. I will follow your cutting guide in another video. I have made several denim rag quilts in the past but want to make a regular denim quilt. I thought about using your favorite quilt as you go technique but think I will use the method you used here. Thank you so much for this tutorial - and the finishing one also!

    Just tooo dang CUTE. Easy to make. THANKS. The strips don't have to be set in, just on top!!! This one next ))) First sewing lines ARE the quilting!! Brilliant!! This one goes to my friend who has a dog on the bed. It will survive an active dog because the color stripes are not set in and the main cloth is denim. Lots of happy all around. )))))

    I cut out 10" denim squares for a quilt, but had a bunch of smaller squares leftover. This looks good for those leftover pieces. I cut them so they can be put together into bigger squares like a 6 x10 and a 4x10.

    Love it! I think I’d go in random directions-a little like a larger scale version of Gudrun’s ‘Glacial Ice’ pattern from her Quilts of Iceland book. I tend to overthink layouts, and it would reduce bulk in seams.
    My wish list of future projects keeps growing. Thanks for THAT! 🤣😂🤣

      These ones are mostly non stretch but I have used stretch for quilts before. Since you are quilting and then trimming it shouldn’t make a difference.
