- This is Dustin McClellan's Custom 1953 Chevy that has been chopped and bagged with a Mustang2 style front clip and Air Ride Technologies air ride setup. Coker Bias tires on stock 15" steel wheels, tunneled headlights and a 3 deuce tri power setup.
Man I'm four years from retiring and a 53 slammend and chopped is my dream car
thats the point is that it doesnt look good cosmetically, its what gives it character man. its called a rat rod, and a true one is like this rusty and or different colors..... great build man it looks awesome

Headlights are just the stock trim rings welded on but sheet metal was used to tunnel the buckets back. The back window is stock but just leaned forward to meet the roof and the gap at the bottom was filled.

Car is chopped 4.5 up front and 5.5 in the rear. MII front end with a 4 link setup in the rear with bags, dual compressors and 5 gal tanks

paint it flat black and just paint the top so pull out the dents so the rust doen't eat threw the metal

Got rust under the chrome? I’ve got a 53, 2DrHt, Baby Blue, all stock, good builder but everything needs touching! Need floor pan and gas tank. Did the Disc Brake front conversion, no plans for the rear yet. Good luck, keep me up on your progress. P.S. Removing the rear Qtr chrome wasn’t a walk in the park, but got it done. About ready to put it back on.
i'm starting to really get into rat rods. i've been looking into get an old studebaker and chopping it/bagging it. what do you think?

Nice car man. Same year as mine. Love the chop. I've seen a few lowered with no chop that look good, but I was thinking of 3-3.5". Yours looks just right. Any plans for paint or just gonna leave it?

also if you really knew what you were looking at you could tell this guy didnt 'fake' his paint job. idk where you live besides maybe croatia that you cant find old 50's rods for less then four grand or if people can just tell youre an easy mark and want to rip you off or what, but there are still plenty of them out there. and my point is true car guys that know what there doing that start out with a solid enough base can build a nice rat rod for next to nothing

dude thats rediculous, why would they fake a shitty paint job? do you really think they'd take a good car and sand it some so it will rust and put rusty chrome on it? the point of these cars is you can have an awesome car without dumping a ton of money in it and it looks like a fresh barn find. the guy started with what was a lightly rusted car and instead of completely restoring it he prolly just wanted to get out and have fun with some style and not break the bank
lmao ok man you go on believing that people are fakig shitty paint jobs. as a matter of fact i have a 56 bel air two door post that i got for $1200 and a 57 ford two door ranch wagon that i got for $150. and if you know what youre doing you wouldnt pay $500 for a core support you'd weld and repair your old one. but what do i know i have only been doing bodywork since i was 13. you CAN put a ton into a rat rod but most guys dont have that much in them if you really look at all the bills.
