As Drew said, this car is very close to the spirit of the resurrected Carrera Panamericana. It's just a hotrodded old Chevy with disc brakes and a full rollcage. Many of the "vintage" competitors are generic modern chassis with a racing pedigree, then a '50s body bolted on. I love that a car like this can still race.

Yes.Some of the open class American cars where thinly disguised NASCARs ,John & Shirley Wards' 'continuation' Kurtis roadster was a dang rocket ship not to mention the XK120's,Lancia D20,and Gullwing Mercs! It was quite the circus! Fast company indeed!

the pre small block stories. Love the history. I remember resorting back to straight six to get away from the 70s castings and egr troubles... in the 80s to early 90s. It hung on a long time. It will never lose its place

I had a '53 5 window Chevy pickup. I also put a 292 in it. There were a lot people replacing their small 6's with 292's. So many that the auto parts store carried modified water pumps with a shortened pulley so the engine would fit.

I was just there, I mean right there. I have a great shot of my truck on that horseshoe bend in the "woods". I visited a hermit afterwards then explored a castle after all the bicycles rode past. 130 in that brick must have taken some engine mods but what an experience! Great video, with some of the most amazing backdrops in California and great story too.

Hi Fireball! That was Nacimiento-Fergusson road alright! And yes I was quite busy and rather concerned about my future as a racing driver while running flat out across the Mexican dessert! But I was clocked at 132mph by an open class car that came along side me before diapering over the horizon. Some of the open class cars where clocked at 177 mph. They are now speed limiting them via ignition limiters to 140....

I understand Petrolicious is trying to build a creative story, but I'd appreciate it if the music could stay in the background (and then only increase to the foreground when building within the drama of the story before subsiding). I'm not overly picky as I love most of your videos but this was a bit distracting.
