- The future of city commuting is certainly Electric , and we are seeing a slew of new launches in the EV segment. For using inside the city , most would prefer a scooter over a car due to its small size and practicality, but will have to sacrifice comfort and a safety for the same.
The Reva is an unusually small car which promises car like comfort with dimensions slightly larger than two scooters. Does it live up to the claim? Can it be the perfect tool for your city commute? Check out our review to find out!

I was just telling my mom, how gloomy and boring the day is and how I wished if my favourite people uploaded a video today. And here it is! Fabulous Job Guys. You guys are really keeping your New Year Resolution intact by bringing freshly brewed and interesting content.
I saw 4 volvos in this video and I was wondering y u guys aren't featuring any volvos ....Please do a video on volvos and polestars if possible.. so curious to hear from u guys 💙
I had the chance to drive one Reva in 2009, which was used by an ISRO computer engineer. I still remember the fan type regulator which used for forward and reverse. It was really fun 😍
I would rate this and Tata Nano as the best examples of Indian automobile engineering. Excellent choice and episode, Team talking cars.Used to have a Nano CX, it was fun to take it through the small by lanes and crowded roads of Trivandrum.
This vehicle has always amused me. Hearing that it came with AC and break regen, simply blows my mind. Right now i wud consider a reva with a replaced battery pack over a scooter or any small city car, given the rising fuel costs and city traffic. it makes a whole lot sense. 😀
As always another amazing video from Talking Cars ❤️
Thank you for talking about this car today, seeing this cars gave me a nostalgic feeling of my college days in Bangalore.
My professor back in Bangalore had this then he updated to the E20. Always found this car interesting. Seems to be a good buy right now.

Thank you... I use to be fascinated at the rare sighting of a Reva back when I was in college. This video brings back those memories. It is true that it is a more relevant and sensible buy today than it was when originally launched. But then, finding the right one (Second hand) will be a very tricky affair.
Not getting time to watch all videos.. but going at them one by one is nice too.. it proves to me just how interesting the topics you discuss and bring up are in your videos.. 👍🏼
I would love to get one of this, upgrade the battery pack for much more longer range and will do a all India solo trip with it. :)
just finished watching the reva video...👍
very well done and you're doing justice to the promise of bringing unique videos. this video came a tad late for me :(
incidentally just last week, my friend was selling his e2o and I was caught in two minds and pondered over it for couple of days, whether to buy or not to buy..In fact I didn't have the conviction and the confidence... he's an enthusiast and has used and maintained it pretty well.. it got sold now 😐😥
had this reva video come last week, I would've surely been the owner of that e2o by now 😊 that would've been a nice baby step into the ev life for me .. Nonetheless, there's always a next time, God willing!
cheers,
manoj
Had a printed Reva flyer from 1996 ABCL beauty pageant, someone gave. I guess it was because maini engineering was based out of bangalore and the pageant was held in this city.
We dreamed this beautiful car would be the future that new millennium held. It took another five six years to see it in production. Most auto magazines of 1999-2000s featured the upcoming revolutionary car then. It was Sudarshan Maini, Chetan's father who hit the headlines. However when it came out the huge price was a disappointment. I already had an SS80 maruti by then. But back then inever understood how the climate controlled seats worked..
Another interesting thing was that the department of posts had purchased many of these and was used to carry mail. Those were bright red in colour.
Thanks for this episode.
thanks for featuring this wonderfully quirky car ,i always curious about this one , i always wondered how comfortable this one ! Pakshe ningalu oru chair il irikuna pole simply sitting ! and this was the only car in India were offered 200 shades
Oh my god this content surprised me and again you show me those ac compressor which was a new things for me and off course interior bits and it’s so much fun to see the vlog wow 🤩
😃😃
A friend of mine had a Reva a decade or so back. He had bought it used and was very happy with it, until he had to change the battery. I have travelled in it once and remember it as a very crude experience. This is quite different to the modern EVs for which refinement is an advantage over ICE cars. I don't think it made sense to buy a Reva new when it was launched. I guess most people were put off by the cost and (lack of) refinement. It is an interesting used buy now as an alternative to 2-wheeler EVs.
Happy to see you guys back
Well that's a very good option , definitely can be choose even over a scooter and a modern EV 🤣 . Remembered my school days , I used to see a reva daily in my school days riding happily by an old couple which made all of us wonder . Thanking both of you for a very cute episode ❣️ loved to see this car in detail and still I'm wondering about the features and build of a 2002 model electric car.
Mine grandpa is using it too ,for around 10 yrs
My thought was to buy it for my father. He is reluctant to drive car saying it is inconvenient to manoeuvre and park.He drives an activa everywhere. And I am concerned considering his age and health. i find this a safer alternative. In-fact a two seater low budget EV appeals to all age groups.
A very sensible review considering the prevailing fuel prices in the country. I would be great if we can upgrade the battery and get a range of 200km.
Yes. This video makes sense. Good option affordable electric city use vehicle instead of a two wheeler. Waiting to see Mahindra e2o reviews soon.
Delivering exactly what viewers want...
That's Talking cars....❤️
Hey TC guys :)
Can you kindly put timelines on your description for each sub-topic you’re discussing so that if we want to come back to the video for any clarifications, we don’t have to keep searching through the entire video?? It is really difficult as the camera view is more or less the same throughout the length of the video.
Appreciate you both!!
After watching this, I feel like buying this for evening drives 😁
BTW, thankyou for all the advices. Getting my first car (kia sonet) next week 🤗
Congrats . I also booked sonet diesel automatic after watching their video more than 10 times...
@@tojikdominic congrats. I'm getting the Petrol DCT

Amazing Video!!! Literally an ‘i’ opener.. You guys have given an interesting point to ponder about… Reva the car for the cost of an Ather… ‘Has AC….’ and usable in rain😂.
Wonder where could I buy second hands in Kochi…Looking forward to see your adventures on e2go😉
I have seen one in Kochi
I have seen one red colour Reva with a black colour bumper passing by my home daily for quite some time. It happened during my school days. I didn't knew this car was an electric at that time 😂 lol
A cute, quirky yet very functional as a city car for short commutes. I would definitely consider a Reva-i agreeing to your thoughts about it.
As Vivekji said, your partner (wife or lover, whomsoever it may concern 😁) would really be happy if you take them for a round through the streets in one of these.
Variety guaranteed here, thanks bros...👍🏻😊
The last car expected to be reviewed by you two. please do bring more such quirky and interesting cars.
Nano with an electric heart would be nice ,I too was searching for this when I was buying my second commuter car In Bangalore
I really wished that you explored the potential upgradability(battery), a bit more. Keeping that aside, i really enjoyed this new experience
15:28 Vivekji made a REVA sense😂😂
Wow💥 Wonderful💥Talking Cars🔥🔥Could see better. The deer (Moose )on Vivekji's new T-shirt looked beautiful.Thanks for sharing dears❣️❣️
Very good review.
As a Reva owner since 2013, like it.
Nice suggestion guys.. Reva manasil ninu thaney poyi..pand Bangalore orupad kanditund... Yes really something to be considered in current situation... Nice video 💓
I have seen one in Trivandrum, used by India Post. Painted red with their logo and all..
As someone who has used MAINI material handling equipments in an Industrial environment, I can vouch for the ruggedness of their designs. They have entered into car design with a lot of experience gained from their electric material handling equipments.
I don’t comment much on UA-cam videos cus im lazy but i gotta say , you guys do a great job and im a big fan from the very first and keep up the good work and hoping too see fresh and new content 💜
Thank you! 😃

Very insightful episodes as always. I have seen the Mahindra eVerito once or twice . Was curious to know if it’s still in production and your thoughts on it
The video i was waiting for!!!

chethan maini is now came with a battery swapping startup called sunmobility and they are expanding to kerala also
makes alot of sense.. it was an episode that needed.. but i think its not easy to buy now a days.. ini kurachu demand koodum..
Reminded me of Jeremy driving the 2 stroke tiny car in BBC office when I saw vivekji in a reva
Lovely video.. Have to grant it JD and Vivek for coming up with a least expected but most enjoyable concept... Really enjoyed it.. I used to see one in my native place, Calicut, in early 2000s..A black and yello Reva... But havent seen another one since that, except today.. 😂😂
Thanks Raghu
I loved this car, but yeah it's been expensive from the beginning. It's been always the same in India, we don't appreciate functional and practical cars, may be because they are aspirational and status symbols. Same happened with Nano in recent time, no one bought it, now there is a huge demand for it.
Can you guys please do an episode on CNG cars.:-)
Big Fan of your videos
I think I should sell my bike and scooter and get a used Reva i instead. Makes more sense.
Then, the aircon sound is actually interesting, I first thought you guys plonked a turbine engine in that Reva. 😁😂
I mean seriously it sounds uber cool in this video.
And lastly I'm considering buying a used example of this car, could you make another video regarding service and parts availability? Thank you.
What about registration and fitness renewal after replacing with a better battery for a 20 year old car? What documents we need to produce to get the fitness and registration renewal?
Much needed video. Love Reva
That reaction of Vivekji at 00:07 though.... Priceless😅
Keep. Up the good work guys❣️❣️
Thanku for the wonderful videos you guys make
Hi Jayadev and Vivek,
Hope this mail finds you both in good spirit. I have been closely following your channel off late though I have an average exposure to Malayalam. You guys are doing a great job and the attention to detail in your reviews are not found in the auto magazines that boast a massive subscriber count. I have two requests from my side
1) I have a 2016 Duster RXZ AMT, which I bought as a used car. The car has done above 1lakh Kilometres. But all the services were done periodically with the ASC thus far and I have done 10K Kilometres after purchase. Only Issue is ,the vehicle starts juddering in N-1 gear after being run for 10 plus minutes in a Stop Go traffic or being run for more than an hour in highway. The judder is only when moving the car from stand still and not in any other gear transitions. I know that it is a inherent issue across duster AMT, but could you please suggest a solution. (The following are my wild thoughts as a solution, unsure if they are doable even. Tune the AMT Unit, so that the clutch release is planned well based on the flywheel speed during creep or an ECU remap or does a 48V mild hybrid conversion like the Altigreen Hypixi would help in this case) Adding to that could you please let me know if this project done by ZF is even possible in India www.zf.com/india/en/stories_12928.html
2) Can you please add an English Version of your video along with the Malayalam one. Reason being, the knowledge that you have can be shared with further more people which will be a great thing.
Thanks in Advance.
Now this is some real variety video!!! 😍😍
Was Waiting for you yo revisit this one.. good one.
Nice video, intresting, e car inte karyam maranu poyarunu.... expecting the E2O review soon😃
Please try Wagonr 1.2 kseries.
Would like to know if it's a practical fast car, straight line stability and feeling around corners with the same heartec platform as swift/Baleno albeit the body roll.
Search for a cheap used automatic hatch usually is limited to AStar AT Or i10 AT for which you would probably need to shell out at least 2 lakhs. And those cars are fuel guzzlers too.
As an alternative Reva makes lot of sense, .... But sadly it's next to impossible to find one.
BMS needs to be changed while replacing lead with lion right

Didn’t go into series production.

A guy who lives in the next lane still has a Reva which he had been using since some 2002-03 or so. (At that time he also had a Fiat Uno which he later replaced with Fiat Linea.)
He is more than 6 feet tall. Once in a while we still see him, along with his wife, in his Reva.

What if reva-i with li ion batteries. Will it be benificial in adding with the additional cost of new battery
Edachira kunnu keruvo? :) I had used E2o Plus from zoomcar couple of times, but the only hickup was that it wouldn't climb the steep road at Edachira. It'd would climb provided no traffic stops the momentum, but if you have to stop and climb then it is a big problem.
It make sense. I would like to buy one for daily use. Especially for Grocery shopping.
Hope something new like this come up. Very exciting. 😍😆
Interesting EV To be Noticed😍😎

i first saw this car at Lonavala hill road during may 2011 as i rememember, was confused what was it. Was having phone, googled and was stunned to know it runs electric.
in Kerala, i have rarely seen this.. as suggested, can be good car for city users, but many are unaware, hope some lights come through this video

Lead acid battery last for 1200-1400 charging life cycle . and it is depend on how we maintain the battery.

Also do a review of bolero Neo and give an insight about how a modern day ladder frame suv fairs against other monocoque compact SUVs, and if it's worth buying and whom should buy that car?! Also for someone buying bolero Neo is it really worth the stretch for buying the top model which got rear diff lock.
First time my wife is watching along with me :P We tried so many times to buy this one for her through OLX but never happened.
Reva is/was always a good city car. No second opinion about it. If we are considering practicality and financially, then I would get a used Nano for 50-60k and allocate 1lakh for fuel for next 5yrs or so. Atleast 4 people can travel comfortably without range anxiety.
This is for a different application. It for someone trying to make it an only car.
Please do make videos on the Daewoo Matiz and Cielo!
I saw a verito with green number plates ( @bharath matha college kakkanad ) . I was in trafic so couldn't take a pic !
After watching this video I found many interesting examples of Reva in OLX at Chennai and Bangalore .As Vivek ji said about lithium ion swap, interestingly one of the cars have a lithium ion battery pack and the owner is claiming a 100+..😁😁 km range .
I was sceptical on watching a video abt Reva, as it felt like a joker car for me. However u people made the video fun to watch and make the car a bit likeable as well. ☺
Thanks bro..this wonderful video.. I thk i would like to have one.
Congratulations for 100k..🎉
