    What a superb line Zac Brown “Heavy weights that only want to fight middle weights” so accurate , Ferrari and Red Bull basically scared of competing on a level field of play 🙄 Liberty Media as owners need to grow a pair , these are the new rules if you don’t like it don’t come. Ten smaller teams competing at 200mph + (which they will) would be a lot more interesting than watching the same teams/drivers dominate every practice session, every qualifying and each GP

    • @djoetma
      @djoetma 4 роки тому +1

      It's not like these teams didn't deserve their place. McLaren used to be equal to Ferrari, but because they messed up their infrastructure, they fell behind. And now they aren't top tier anymore, they want to pull others down to their level and act like their mediocre infrastructure should be the norm for everyone.
      But they are still way bigger than anyone else apart from Renault Renault and have a factory team infrastructure.
      Under the new regulations, F1 becomes more of a cup class with little innovation and diversity in terms of aero-concepts. Basically kinda like Indycar.

    • @PDadz64
      @PDadz64 4 роки тому +1

      Hmmmm , indycar . Errr no thanks that’s even more boring than modern F1, it’s virtually a same make, home series class of racing. I am really not worried what F1 does either way , I don’t watch much anymore , it’s a boring hybrid engine trying to be “eco” nerd fest these days .
      My point was I liked Zac Browns comment , it’s also accurate if Ferrari are the best they will win if the spend is either £10 million or £500 million . They will cheat anyway they always have , the best teams have always played closed to the rules , most crossing when they could.
      I grew up watching Grand Prix when teams like Hesketh , Toleman ,Tyrell , Brabham ,Lotus , Matra, Williams could innovate their way to race wins and be competitive.
      McLaren are virtually one of the heavyweights. I believe it was more the obsession with Alonso that has cost them dear. I’d have sacked him for his immature protests about the engine . McLaren will rue the day (I’m sure they do already) they split with Honda (influenced by the massively overrated Alonso) , they would have had more dominant seasons if they had sucked up the pain of the development years.

    Ross and Zak are quite literally the two single best people in this sport right now. They are without a doubt saving this sport with their efforts. Having restrictions is what drove the ingenuity of the older eras. They didn’t have unlimited money so they had to manage with what they had. Now there are teams with unlimited money which has rewarded brands for spending as much money as possible to advertise themselves while the real smaller teams go belly up cuz they can’t, and never were able to spend like that.

    • @Regret696
      @Regret696 4 роки тому

      Well lets be honest, during the Ferrari dominating era it was also a case of having the most amount of money. Ferrari where testing at Fiorano pretty much daily. Teams with a smaller budget wouldnt have been able to put those kind of hours into developing their car mid season.

    I don't see how you can even have closed events. That means isolating all team members from their family for at least 2 to 3 weeks before you can put them together at a race track. That's already close to 2000 people just for the teams. And then you have hundreds more of reporters, track officials and track facilities staff you need to isolate before you can have a "clean community" at the track.
    And all that for the track owner to hold a race at a giant loss because no tickets are sold. I don't even think there is a track that wants to do it unless the FIA or F1 is going to first wire them a few millions as compensation.

      But here's the thing, Indy racing, particularly ovals it's easier for those teams to sneak a win. If F1 had the same logic I think it will be harder for than to happen. OR it means the lower teams will luck into a win every now and then and I don't think they will want to rely on that. I think they will want to have the ability to try to add something to their advantage. I just don't see having the same car more or less is the answer for F1. Exciting racing adds fans and attracts sponsors, and I don't think that means running the same design.

    To be blunt, Formula 1 is taking the correct way to lose fans efficiently by not being aired in full on terrestrial TV.
    In Britain, large numbers of people are reduced to either watching delayed 'edited highlights' of half of the annual races on Channel 4 or else becoming clandestine viewers of streams from other countries. The Practice sessions and Qualifying (often more interesting than the races) are only viewable legally by those who subscribe to Sky's second-rate and over-priced satellite TV and internet service, or who pay a premium price to watch via other online means.
    The prices charged by Sky are extortionate for most people here. No way are large numbers of people able to pay an additional £600+ per year to watch very inefficient cars going around circles at high speed. There are much cheaper, and far more interesting, forms of motor sport which can be watched for nothing more than the annual terrestrial TV license fee, or for no other cost than using a terrestrial internet connection.
    If F1 decides to go 'fanless', then they will lose me completely, along with millions of other long-term followers of the sport from all around the globe.

    with Ferrari's insistence for a larger budget for engine producers why can't the team budget be set at £130m to include all costs engine/gearbox/chassis/ staff. Engine development can be done external to the team as with Honda/Red Bull and all other customer teams. That way all teams are "customer teams" and engine supply is by separate companies external to the race team budgetary restrictions.

    • @Croga
      @Croga 4 роки тому +1

      Why?
      When they're running races with fans there, the fans are paying. Why would a lack of paying public necessitate free broadcasts if *paying* public doesn't?
      F1 has costs just as any other company. If they get less money in (and believe me; paying public brings in a *LOT* of money) then they need to earn it some other way.
      And even more importantly: The tracks don't earn *anything* if there's no public. Those are the organisations that are hit the hardest. F1 needs to find some way to make sure the tracks don't go bankrupt....
      I don't see any reason whatsoever for them to broadcast for free. I do see a lot of reason for them to look for different monetization options.

    I am a big fan, but f1 has to be prepared to let the petulant upstart red bull and the old king Ferrari leave the sport. 125m cap and 750 staff per team is more than sufficient and restrictions bring ingenuity. Sadly the chances of haas or Renault having a great weekend and being on the podium are long since gone, sadly. We all remember the underdogs winning races, Jordan and co taking the risk to get the reward. F1 should return to that, remove the offsite data technicians and leave the decisions to the pit wall. The racing will be more unusual as the teams analysing every outcome will be gone. The teams that won’t follow Ross should be ashamed of themselves and leave the sport as clearly they are putting their own interests head of the sport. This man loves f1, knows his stuff and pulled off one of f1’s greatest stories in f1 as well as bringing championships in so many teams. Mercedes owe so much of their turbo hybrid era success to this mans knowledge and decisions. All teams know he knows his stuff so why are they not following him?

      750 staff per team is beyond ridiculous. We had much more exciting racing in the days when a successful team could be not much larger than an engineer, a handful of assistants for the cars (two pairs swapping tyres and two refuelling) and a pair of drivers.
      The only positive thing about today's races is that they are far safer than they used to be. 25 people per team is more than enough to allow for a couple of designer/engineers, two tacticians, a small team of good mechanics and two drivers. Then their annual spend would be mostly on the cars. The additional 725 to 1000+ unnecessary staff and their office/transport/accommodation costs are the real drain on resources today.
      Sure, pit stops would take longer, but since it would be a level playing field, that would not detract from the sport in any way. Efficiency of each member of the pit crew would become even more important than it is today.

I just wonder why the teams don't just say you are all racing as normal on the right circuits for the calendar but on the sims that you continually use. Can't be that hard to set up - unless the drivers can't reach the sims I guess.

    Ferrari’s views are unrealistic these days. They’re a luxury performance car manufacturer, whereas most of the teams aren’t and therefore don’t have the warchest to finance R&D.
    Ferrari need to conform and align with all the other teams to help safeguard the future of F1, sadly at this time their mentality is selfish and blinkered.

Create a regulation to make sure the best driver doesn’t win 4. Start a system of voting for FIA to vote who should be the world champion 5. Make sure there is a regulation ensures there is different champion each year.

    I can live without either Ferrari or Mercedes if they will continue to be recalcitrant about maintaining their financial advantage. After a while, with an equal playing field, new hero's will emerge. Then Mercedes and Ferrari might come back if they didn't like it at first. If they don't, then they can find a different series to participate in. Like a bigger investment in Le Mans, for example.

    It's a bit of a conundrum (the $ cap) between being the ultimate in automotive tech and keeping a robust competitive field. As a Machinist/CNC Programmer I have floated around the 80k mark for a few years (28yrs exp). If you consider this level of experience/wage as nominal, meaning that mechanics/pit crew are earning less but engineering and management on the plus side, this puts the team salary at around 65 million (800-850 on payroll). Travel and lodging for a season at 25 million. Raw material and process, manufacturing infrastructure and just keeping the lights on at least 20 million means putting the cost at around 110m to survive. To pay the shareholders and keep in the black 150m is the bare minimum a team would need to get by. Seems low to me. These are all layman estimates. I would love to hear some real world figures but I know for sure you'd have to bleed out an F1 exec to get the real truth.

    Could we not do a couple of races which are closed to fans from Silverstone similar to Touring cars and with a race where one weekend we do it clockwise and the next weekend anti-clockwise. Perhaps there should be a cap on driver's pay as it seems obscene that drivers can earn pay that most of the fans would never earn in a lifetime. Yes they risk their lives and they are very talented but some teams the car is the dominant factor. The F1 I grow up with such as Lotus in the 1960's and 70's we had exciting races and as Zac said the racing was exciting when we had unexpected conditions. For the last few years the racing has been boring with 3 teams dominant at the top. We need the cars to be the same and the budget cap would give that the teams need a level playing field and that means a cap on teams which must include everything.

      And they could let teams use whatever engine or motor they choose to use, petrol, gas, diesel or electric, so long as it and its fuel supply fit into a specific chassis size, remains within a specified annual engine and support budget, and does not unduly endanger the drivers of any team. Refuelling or battery replacement should be allowed, but a defined minimum time should be taken for that procedure. That would be really interesting!
