As a golden rule never try to blackmail a murderer.
Exactly!
02:32. The mark of a great actress: the ability to make a smile look benign and contemptuous at the same time. Vera Miles was beautiful AND gifted.
Not really. Pretty much run-if-the-mill in terms of ability.
@@doriangray2020, Vera might believe herself to be more than run-of-the-mill. I would agree with her.
@@TheWriterWalker and I’m sure you may believe yourself as having a keen eye for talent...I’m here to help alleviate you of that delusion.
@@doriangray2020, I truly only believe myself to have a talent for grammar.
"You should come down to the farm. And take the back road. Oh, and don't tell anybody. Also, be a darling and update your life insurance with me as the beneficiary."
The Girl: "3 o'clock?"
Seriously! 😁😄😁
😂😂😂
Lol!!!
Great episode, it's funny seeing someone smoking inside a store .
Everyone, everything, everywhere smelled like smoke
While handling extensive dresses no less!
And when a motif is pushed like that one you know it's going to become pivotal (it does).
Used to smoke everywhere! In the mall, restaurants, even in the hospital lobby and airplanes😂😂
Lots of comments about the smoking. However, in this case, the secretary's smoking is a plot point, a context that isn't apparent from just this clip.
Oh here's someone who already committed murder when someone got in her way, lemme see if I can intimidate her into giving me money by threatening to tell someone about it
Are you suggesting it may NOT be a healthy move????😂
Are you suggesting it's NOT a healthy move😂???
When two women address each other as "dear" you know that something awful is about to come down!
😂😂😂😅
Ohh dear, don't be silly!
Smoking so close to so much polyester can’t be safe
😂😂
Blackmailing a killer is just asking for it.
Great episode! The poison ivy,and a most evil murderess
Francesca Katz She’s alright; he dodged the lab result.
Why is it that the thought never occurred to Shirley that blackmailing a murderer is "NEVER" safe ? 🤔
The secondary murder victims on Columbo episodes never seem to realize this! (Beginning way back in the Season 1 premiere “Murder by the Book.”)
Vera Miles is an amazing actress.
I agree.
Alfred Hitchcock thought so too. He wanted her for Vertigo but she got pregnant.
Back when you could buy your clothes with that fresh smoked smell. Wasn't life grand?
Vivica knew this young lady weakness hers was cigarettes Vivica used that to destroy her!!!!
Don't go to the farm!!! Nothing good ever happens at the farm meeting
I love this episode!❤
same here
They might have chosen a more convincing dress for over 400 bucks. The one Shirley holds up could be a nightie from Walmart.
Right? Even by today's standard there's no way that thing's $450.00. $4.50 if it's brand new, maybe.
Not if it's Valentino
I love this episode. I have this season on DVD. I need that formula.
Cigarettes so close to the clothes... *faints*
I miss the 70s. It was a good decade. Mind dresses and maxi dresses. Hot pants. maxi coats. Bright colors.
yeah, she's gonna break a lot of hearts someday. . .
That secretary looks like she should be in an ABC's Afterschool Special
No, Saturday morning cartoons. She's dressed like inspector gadget
And ... the clothes are on very cheap hangers, too.
dying for a dress
Vivica had came up with a plan then as she was talking to this Young Lady Vivica knew then she was going to destroy her!!!!!🙇🙇🙇
$50 dollars due to the cigarette burn in the back
I’ve seen this one. It is really good. It has a young Martin Sheen in it, I believe. Ok, that is all I am saying. No spoiler alerts. Lol!👍😁
Smoking while shopping and laughable wigs; nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
Some of the hair isn't wigs. My mom and her friends used a lot of hairspray to get those looks! So much so that it ate the wallpaper in our bathroom!
"I think you're a murderer! Sure, I'll meet you alone. Yippee, a $400 nightgown, I think I'll hold my lit cigarette in the same hand with it!"
🙄
Just in case we forgot that young people in the 70s did drugs.
Shirley has what's coming to her.
Thank you for making the effort to post the scene but I think, and I am sure many subscribers would agree, that posting the full episode would be more appreciated.
It's out there to buy if you value it enough! I own the full original series: worth every penny!
$450 I wonder if I could afford that....... you better sister now you've got smoke all over it ....
Not a good idea to blackmail a murderer. Who exactly do you think will be next on their list, lol?
A $450 dress would be $1800 in today's dollars.
Sad because you can’t afford neither.
I wouldn't buy that nightgown for $1.80.
wow pensar que la estoy viendo o acabo de ver en una peli junto a bette davis. adoro el internet. lastima que se retiro y no encuentro entrevistas. saludos.
I dont understand why you post scenes instead of the whole episode
To encourage people to buy the episodes. Whole seasons of Columbo are *very* inexpensive used on ebay or Amazon. But I sprang for the box set (fter buying a couple of seasons at like $8 a pop). Box set is worth every penny -- best DVD purchase I ever made. This is great TV! (no this channel's not mine)
anyviolet this is UA-cam you watch the commercials to watch your favorite shows & i bought the complete two times last time got ripped off came from China some disks were blank. So now i watch it on dailymotion or UA-cam. Big columbo fan since the late 60s watch it with my Mom.
@@XBiker58 Glad to know you're a fan and I'm sorry you got ripped off by some bootleg CDs that you probably didn't even know were bootleg. I love YT watching too obviously but I also (as I'm sure you do) have quite a bit of respect for the artistic rights of the producers of this show and I believe in paying for good entertainment as 1) it's the most fair to the artists and 2) that's how you get more good quality stuff. The artists do have a right to protect their financial interests and if posting short entertaining appetizers on YT does the job, I won't argue :).
@@anyviolet thanks & I thought the universal studios get there cut that's why other episodes of columbo are on here. I was mad wen Netflix took columbo off.
I agree! What the hell?!
Omg...ghastly clothes!
Did they really used to allow smoking in clothes stores? Who wants to buy clothes smelling of cigarettes? 😜😜
EVERYTHING smelled like cigarettes.
Cigarette smell is better than the stench of your trailer.
Here I was thinking I've seen every episode...this doesn't look remotely familiar. I need to see this to know why Columbo was scratching his hand and to know what happens to the smoker chick.
the hand scratch is a spoiler - sorry
The show wasn't a "whodunnit" but rather a "howcatchem" and that scratching was how in this sordid little scenario....
It was poison ivy.
Poison ivy. Late at night while your sleeping poison ivy comes a creeping around🎵🎵🎶🎵🎵🎹🎧🎤
And watch out for those cigarettes. They'll get you every time!
they could've been something
She looks a bit like E.Taylor..and she did a great job in Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon
AWWWWW MAN ! Where the whole show post the whole show ! Please!
Is that Kitty Winn as the smoker?
It is Sian Barbara Allen.
I would like to see the full episode. Where could I find it?

I use a Pop-Up blocker extension on my Chrome browser to cut down the annoying pop-ups. However once you get the stream started you're all set to enjoy this episode at the link I just posted a bit ago
Robert Barringer Thanks for the link. Watched the entire show. Did Vera really put crystal in that woman’s cigarette?
@@94110mission I'm not sure if it was crystal BUT it was definitely something to put the young lady out of commission since she was on to Vera and no doubt was planning to blackmail her for more $$$ and job security.
It is one of the best! You almost hope that she gets away with it!
It’s amazing people smoked when ever and wherever the pleased! What if your ash dropped on the clothing?
I love episodes of Columbo but I hate, hate, hate this technique of feeding us a couple minutes of a classic episode. At least show enough to remind of what went down in the episode.
Shirley, dear ... you are getting in way, way over your head.
Holy Cow, that hairdo.
Is vera miles wearing a wig or is that her natural hair?
It's a wig.
@@richardscott4318 I watched the entire episode and never even imagined she was wearing a wig. Why the need to? Role requirement?
This dialogue is exactly like something out of a Lois Duncan novel. People really talked like that in the 70s?
More importantly, did people really dress that badly in the 70s?
how to promote the tobacco industry in the 70's !!!
Just reflecting reality at the time.
Do you really think this scene promotes cigarette smoking? If you do, you aren't aware of what happens the next time the character smokes a cigarette.
That was life back then. i took a couple acting classes and a major topic in both was how to smoke onstage.
Little known fact is that the Columbus part was first offered to Bing Crosby and his partner Bob Hope
That was one ugly outfit on the woman with the green turtleneck
Trump 2020.
Dumb, fat fuck trump won't be re-elected.
Columbo has always been my favorite. It’s too bad when it started in the 50’s like this one it was less than 10 minutes long for the whole show. They leave out a lot of details. Later they were as long as half an hour which was a great improvement. The TV had just been invented in the 50’s so the TV sets were a lot smaller so they couldn’t handle longer shows
Rick, this brief clip is from an episode that is a full-length program (I've seen it), and it does not occur in the 1950s but in the 1970s--or the latter 1960s. I think the first episode of Columbo is titled "Murder By the Book," and it was also full-length. What you are seeing on UA-cam are edited-down snippets designed to entice us to buy the Columbo DVD collection.
@@TheWriterWalker I didn’t double check the exact dates but thought it was the 50s or so and this was the whole show not snippets. The guys who put them here aren’t selling anything and don’t own the rights so why post snippets? What do they get out of any sales so these are the whole shows not snippets.
Columbus in the 50’s was never more than 10 minutes partly because of programming. There’s hardware and software. The 50’s TVs were mostly hardware and too small so they couldn’t hold longer shows inside them.
Nowadays the software programming and larger memory with teamwork allows you to watch all sizes due to the chips and LEDs and Motorola involvement.
The circuitry and transistors with programming makes the difference to make an overall racism free product.
The primary transistor is the BJT and FET is the modern version of transistor.
The types of BJT are NPN and PNP transistors.
The FET is a unipolar device, which means that it is made using either p-type or n-type material as main substrate.
The proof is in the pudding.
@@rickrick5041, I'm sorry. Your explanation was already hitting against unreality, but when I got to "racism free product," the absurdity immediately gelled. If you can control yourself, please spare me a response.
The young white girl is hot!
i care to differ
Hideous hair, clothes, caked on makeup ugh not nice..not nice at all!
Yep, fashion really was that bad in the 70s.
