    Got excited when I saw this video come up. Love whiting fishing and that's a top area for em. Especially since they stopped the netters around there. Problem is, all those pink pirahna's which are everywhere this time of year! But I've found that by around mid March, the pirahna's are not so active, and the really big whiting come into the shallows there. Add to that, nice calm, consistent weather at that time aswell. Good squid around there too, and thus, squid is a great bait there. I started using a combination bait of either mussell or pipi tipped with a small strip of freshly caught squid a few years ago. And wow, did that go well. Especially early in the morning on a hot day. Thanks for the video Alan.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  4 роки тому

      Thanks Darren. You make some wonderful points there. I agree the avalanche of small pinkies should start to disappear soon HOPEFULLY then we can keep our baits in long enough to target some good size whiting. I think your right this should start happening around March, so ill be back soon to repeat the process ( and hopefully get my gopro right as I missed a few really good catches too LOL ). I heard whispers too that the squid fishing is great there aswell, so im keen to try there and around kirks point for a squid drifting sessions. That combination of mussel. squid and pip sounds like a hot tip worth giving a shot.

      @@fishingmad yeah mate, squid fishing has improved there too, since the netters went. Especially around Bird Rock. I was considering starting my own channel and have a video of a monster squid I caught there (My PB from Port Philip). That was in May last year. But then I realised how much work is involved in making video's. So I admire you for your efforts mate! Takes time and dedication!

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  4 роки тому +1

      ill have to check out the Bird Rock area now LOL. I think that whole area is choc full of squid, ive never targeted them there but will soon. I think the removal of commercial netting should see great fishing in the area for many years to come. Yeah your right maintaining a website and properly running a UA-cam channel can be extremely time consuming if you want to do it properly. Im so passionate about it that I just seem to find the time whilst also managing a full time complex job and looking after 2 kids with special needs. But i love it and wouldn't have it any other way.

      @@fishingmad My sounder is a Lowrance elite 4 (a somewhat dated model now). That is ok with me because I am still learning to use it. As for what was wrong with it well, moisture inside the kayak caused the connector/terminal to corrode.
      Good luck with your sounder hunting there are some quite advanced models out there these days.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  4 роки тому

      There still very good units the elite 4. Hopefully its working better now after some repairs and can have a bigger lifespan for you. I was actually looking at the elite Ti2 as a good replacement option or even the HDS live 7 and having 1 unit i can swap between my kayak and boat.

      @fishingmad  4 роки тому

      I think for the price point they should be fine. I must admit I hate seeing those Next Gen II commercials where the guys is standing swinging from side to side saying the yak is stable. Thats very misleading balance when sitting on a kayak and juggling rods is so different to standing and swinging. I can balance side to side on my kids inflatable toy no problems at all. That being said I have received a few emails from people who bought them and said they were good value and found them good. Ive seen the prymal in the shop but never used it. It has a width of 82cm which is good. Also consider looking on places such as ebay and gumtree and see if anyone has a hobie outback really cheap. You do really notice the difference between the cheaper ones and good brands espcially with stability. I hope that helps.

      @fishingmad  4 роки тому

      Thats fantastic,, that you have a new Kayak. Welcome !!!! The best way to target flathead is not anchor up and drift around. Flathead hold the bottom generally so you typically wont pick them up on a sounder. I like to use small strips of squid or pilchard and 3 inch and 4 inch soft plastics. This method will allow you to catch heaps of them. Check out this video which I specifically created about targeting flathead in port phillip bay by kayak. At 3:29 you complain about pippies falling off the hook. I have found that salting pippies not only keeps them fresher for longer, but also makes them tougher and they stay on the hook better. Before your fishing trip, let your pippies thaw out. Then open them all up and store them in a small container (eg margarine) between layers of rock salt. Ready to use within a couple of hours, they'll keep like this for weeks, even out of the fridge. Any leftovers from a trip can be taken home and used next time.

    Shoot, are 30cm pinkies legal in Victoria? That somehow seems bizarre to me. Over here in Perth they have to be over 50cm or they go back. Even in remote areas further north they have to be at least 41cm.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 роки тому

      Yeah the legal size requirements are really strage. Very inconsistent between states. In Vic whiting is 27cm and pinkies 28cm. I agree that both should be increased locally and that current sizes are too small.

Back in 2016 many of the products were quite raw in the aussie market. However in the past few they have released a whole new range of rods, reels, lures, soft plastics, clothing and much more. Its been an exciting time to be linked to the brand. Especially that the new products are really aligned to the type of fishing that i do and the species that I target. where years back was more for cod and pyke fishing. They really have come a long way and made some very positive strides in the market. Once again thanks for your kind words.
