The Osborne brothers grew up in Hyden, Kentucky. My family is from the mountains of Hazard, Kentucky not far from there. Bobby was about 10 he thinks when they moved to Dayton, Ohio. But they were from Kentucky and played and grew up here. I never heard them mention about their mother, but the father moved them to Ohio . We lost Bobby last year, 2023. 2022 we lost Sonny. sigh a shame. They will be missed, they are playing in heaven now. Their music will live on forever.

Never forgotten I make it a point to listen to them everyday I fell in love with bluegrass at an early age while riding with my uncle in an old cabover Mack that's all he listened to
nashvillebanjo hello from Kentucky. This is also where the Osborne family is from. They are certainly not forgotten. Bobby is STILL playing.. Sonny had to stop after having a stroke. Too bad, he was such a GREAT Banjo player. They are an elite group!
@@kystars Just to clarify on that. Sonny had surgery on one of his rotator cuffs which severely hindered his ability to play. He is still very much active on the Banjo Hangout forums where he posts in his own thread answering questions and comments about his banjos, the Osborne Chief.

Best distinctive voice of Bluegrass. RIP Bobby! We are gonna miss you.
"Forgotten Artists"??? The Osborne Brothers are not in the least forgotten. Perhaps they are forgotten wherever you are, but not here!

@@HPNomad can he play the banjo at all? I have great respect for them both. and Bobby, the Korean war vet.. much respect.
BIG SPIKE HAMMER! Great song title. Raw Power.
This is the Osborne Brothers music I grew up on. It's also the music I learned to play banjo from. Sonny was a great banjo player.
You were lucky to be turned on to this music at a young age. Me too. Bluegrass was my first love of music. Daddy played it on the porch all the time.
RIP Sonny. No body could pick like Sonny.
Hold my beer

Can't you hear the ripple on my big spike hammer
Lord, it's bustin' my side
I've done all I can do to keep that woman
Still she's not satisfied
Hey, hey, Delta May
Why do you treat me this-a-way
Hey, hey, Delta May
I'll get even some day
I'm the best hammer swinger
In this big section game
Big Bill Johnson is my name
Lord the hammer that I swing
For a dollar and a half a day
It's all for my Delta May
Hey, hey, Delta May
Why do you treat me this-a-way
Hey, hey, Delta May
I'll get even some day
--- Instrumental ---
Now I've been lots of places, not much I ain't done
There's still lotta things I'd like to see
Beats that hammer that I swing or the woman I love
One's gonna be the death of me
Hey, hey, Delta May
Why do you treat me this-a-way
Hey, hey, Delta May
I'll get even some day
Big spike hammer, big spike hammer...
