Pierre-Eugène Montézin: A collection of 275 paintings (HD)
Description: "Pierre Eugène Montézin was a French Post-Impressionist painter who worked in the tradition of the Impressionists Alfred Sisley and Claude Monet. Working en plein-air, Montézin captured light and shade in the French countryside with rich colors and direct brushstrokes. Born on October 16, 1874 in Paris, France, he grew up in an affluent family and was taken on fishing expeditions with his father as a child. Montézin later apprenticed as a decorative painter before deciding to pursue a career in fine art. In 1893, he began submitting his paintings to the Paris Salon, he finally achieved this goal after a decade of failed attempts. From 1903 onward, the artist received continuing recognition for his work, including medals in 1907 and 1910. After surviving his service during World War I, Montézin resumed painting and began again to exhibit. The artist died on July 10, 1946 in Moëlan-sur-Mer, France, while on a painting expedition in Brittany. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, the Ulster Museum in Belfast, and the Petit Palais in Paris, among others."

Very gifted painter, just as good an eye and hand as Sisley and Monet. A compositional prowess conveying balance with asymmetry and a genius with colour and value structure, creme de la creme of beauty in nature.

Montezin was a skilled amateur along the lines of Winston Churchill.

@@clearlake3492 I made that comment a year ago. I now realize that Churchill was a better amateur than Montezin.

Frank Blangeard, there are some of his works that seem naïve, but these would have been done when he was starting out, there was no atelier (school) for impressionist plein air painters, they were a new style and way of looking at the world, and they were mainly self taught through experience and experimentation. This man was the real deal when it came to painting what was presented before him plein air and in the moment, his brushwork in his later years is astounding , capturing the atmosphere life and light of the scenery before him. A very difficult thing to do in real time with real figures and places constantly moving. Pierre Montezin was no amateur by any standards. Impressionists were interested in capturing the light and atmosphere of a scene, objects were not the sole subject, I don't think you understand Impressionism and what it sets out to capture. It takes skilled and experienced artists to recognise his work, I doubt you are one of them. One cannot zone in on any of the objects painted to appreciate impressionism but the whole scenery holistically, this was the point of impressionism. They wanted to capture life and atmosphere, not staged objects perfectly rendered. Gosh look at the winter scene at 27:50, he barely uses just two colours to render a complete snowy winter scene. I would challenge you to paint plein air , painting landscapes from life and in the moment quickly capturing the light and life before you and present it here for us to critique. Look at the pasture scenes at 14:13- 14:43 for instance and tell me this isn't the work of a master or have a look at 16:18 and tell me that isn't a work of a genious. remember this was done on the go from life.. Not one of those cows or figures are fully rendered, neither is any other object in these scenes for that matter yet his man captured the life, light and atmosphere of the moment in incredible quality..
