    This is surprisingly engrossing. She is a very good presenter. This covers FRENCH DESIGNERS. Those in the comments who are grousing about this or that was omitted; it's not an overview of world fashion history -- just French Couture.

    small for that kind of project.

    How can it be possible to give a throrough lecture on the topic of fashion when most of the subjects, meaning students/audience have no knowledge about the covert history of androgyny and the secret but epic role that it continues to play in fashion? And in everyday life as well?

    • @alexia3552

    SKIPPED THE EARLY 20 TH CENTURY .. SOOOO FAST ........................

  • @lolabowen8003
    @lolabowen8003 2 роки тому

    Most of the early fashions she presents can and where actually worn by the average woman, but then she goes into the more recent century clothing and it becomes all about clothing that is worn mainly on the walkway at a fashion show not something that the everyday woman would wear. If she would have just stayed with the clothing as something that we the average woman and not some millionaire or billionaire would be able to afford.

    • @psyche8
      @psyche8 10 місяців тому +2

      The early fashions she presents were absolutely not something the 'average' woman wore. A Worth dress could cost up to $10000. A mid-Victorian ball gown needs a good 10 meters of fabric. So you're paying pretty much a minimum of $150 just fabric. For just the outer dress. That excludes labour cost, excludes trimmings. Then add corset, chemise, stockings, shoes, hat etc. What you see in the Regency and Victorian fashion plates were very much worn by the millionaires of those days.

    No, fashion was not at the center of the French revolution. I think it’s kind of pathetic when these pseudo intellectuals try to place all this importance fashion. Yes fashion is fun and was a part of life but it is the most trivial and unimportant shallow aspect of it.
    It’s kind of primitive.

    • @2FullMoons
      @2FullMoons 10 місяців тому +3

      Trivial? Fashion quite literally is a mirror of society, it reflects the social, political & economical states the world is in. You can tell so much about history just by looking at fashion history. Clothes have ALWAYS played a big part in society and always will.
