I found myself clapping by myself at home.
Great talk! Highly enjoyed it.
Dr Steele is by far the best fashion lecturer, her intelligence and communication make all subjects engaging. I hope you can do more together soon!
This is surprisingly engrossing. She is a very good presenter. This covers FRENCH DESIGNERS. Those in the comments who are grousing about this or that was omitted; it's not an overview of world fashion history -- just French Couture.
Fashion history is so interesting, God bless ✝️🫶
Excellent lecture from a very well-spoken person. Thanks for posting this !
Such a captivating speech. I clicked thinking that I might watch for a few minutes and I stayed till the end. Lovely lady.
Great speaking style You can hear her smile, very engaging, very interesting research
As a senior who's been a photographer for many years but enjoy fashion photography and tying to learn about fashion excellent talk!
This was so fascinating. Wonderful lecture!
Hello I read about this book(Paris Fashion) in a Marathi book Akshar Nishanchi Mandiaali means Deep loyalty towards Ward (its a book on books category book). Its written by famous Marathi Editor Arun Tikekar. And now I m going to purchase this wonderful book after watching this video. Thanks.
Such a knowledge of fashion history. I've enjoyed reading some of her books. I also saw the Charles James show she mentioned at least 6 times. I live nearby. So great you're at FIT.
Loved this talk!! Thank you!
Delicious taste Valerie Steele is a pure History Master
@Lestat Luka geez you wrote a whole freakin 📖 but I agree that western chauvinism is a real problem
Very good speaker. Love her pace of talking

I wonder if that dress was ever used to smuggle 50inch TVs...iykyk
Thanks for uploading. Truly invaluable!
Very interesting. Chapeau, Madame!
I had a hallucination about being with women who were dressed in fashion from the earliest 1900’s and I swear I felt like I was in Paris and I’ve never been to Paris.
France: fashion and food is what they are known for.
How beautiful
inspiring,Informative,Self analysis withpictured comments! But less about Asia Fashion, trends and the amalgamation! Fashion would always be a Cherish Triumphant usuable Art form by all means! Thankyou and Best Metta wishes for future Creative Philantropic endeavours 🙏🏾❤️👍
16:20 that's wild that a somewhat progressive law came into place in order to try and stop women from being involved in politics. On foot forward one foot back
I wanna go back to the historian ages
Fashion history is so interesting, God bless ✝️🫶
Why so few slides??!!???
10:49 I'm sure my girl Dr. Steele meant *1760*'s here
Hello!
I live in Sweden and I love historical gowns.
My dream is to open a museum with historical
gowns but my father says that Sweden is too
small for that kind of project.
🌺
Muhteşem...
interesting she mentions very little about Marie Antoinette who was actually very famous for her fashions that were copied all over the world 🤔
Can't help to notice how women look unhealthier as time goes. 38:07 is worrisome.
How can it be possible to give a throrough lecture on the topic of fashion when most of the subjects, meaning students/audience have no knowledge about the covert history of androgyny and the secret but epic role that it continues to play in fashion? And in everyday life as well?
Ooh now I need to look up the history of androgyny in fashion
Hi I'm Eli. I'm so sure that she got the very same voice like A N A

🩷 🇫🇷 👏🏻
The dresses are so huge the pockets must have been so huge 🤤🤤
I love the Regency period. This seems more romantic and looked alot more comfortable for both sexes. Worths dresses flattered womens body.
SKIPPED THE EARLY 20 TH CENTURY .. SOOOO FAST ........................
Most of the early fashions she presents can and where actually worn by the average woman, but then she goes into the more recent century clothing and it becomes all about clothing that is worn mainly on the walkway at a fashion show not something that the everyday woman would wear. If she would have just stayed with the clothing as something that we the average woman and not some millionaire or billionaire would be able to afford.
The early fashions she presents were absolutely not something the 'average' woman wore. A Worth dress could cost up to $10000. A mid-Victorian ball gown needs a good 10 meters of fabric. So you're paying pretty much a minimum of $150 just fabric. For just the outer dress. That excludes labour cost, excludes trimmings. Then add corset, chemise, stockings, shoes, hat etc. What you see in the Regency and Victorian fashion plates were very much worn by the millionaires of those days.
today crossdressing women stop their husdands wearing dresses or there home less
Really disappointed. As an Spanish citizen and fashion designer as well, It is not acceptable that Cristobal Balenciaga has been omitted in this conference.
Paris Fashion…….
when do you ever see males aloud to stand on stage and cross dress like you x
huh?
7:31 slap those women down when they get bossy!
The more bizarre aristocrats were dressed folks were more poor.
Who cares about folks?
No, fashion was not at the center of the French revolution. I think it’s kind of pathetic when these pseudo intellectuals try to place all this importance fashion. Yes fashion is fun and was a part of life but it is the most trivial and unimportant shallow aspect of it.
It’s kind of primitive.
Trivial? Fashion quite literally is a mirror of society, it reflects the social, political & economical states the world is in. You can tell so much about history just by looking at fashion history. Clothes have ALWAYS played a big part in society and always will.
boy I bet you're a lot of fun at parties 😅
Ugh. Don't get it at all. A few dictating to the minuscule.
Just a promotion of her book to earn money
Actually it's a free history lesson as well... :) She get "payed" in promotion for her book, quite normal she gets some kind of reward for her work here no? ;)
But did you die tho?
Lady where did you get your doctorate ONLINE? You are writing about French fashion and you can't pronounce French words. It bugged me so much I couldn't concentrate on any of this. When you say 'sans' you pronounce the last 's'
