WOW!!!! Thank you for the history lesson, ancient pictures, context of the artist´s influences and painting evolution. The images provided help us envision what and how he was inspired. You make us feel as if we were right there and then, along side him.
Magnificent effort, way beyond the traditional documentary. Well done.

The reasons for all this change to "Impressionism" and what follows, are the direct result of the invention of photo cameras. They could capture the reality better than any painter. But not the "impression" and "feel" of them. So the painters, not wanting to become unemployed and irrellevant, switched to what cameras could never capture: the feel and impression

@@armandogavilan1815 Camaras had only "something to do" with it? Just something! And how do you explain your idea of "the shift" to impressionism in the mind of the artist. if not the market? So, you think the invention of the engine (trains, cars, subways etc), had only "something" to do with the switch from horse-drawn vehicles and carts, eh? All the polemics and beatting around the subject bush you present, can only muddy the issue rather than explaining it.

Thank you DW for this wonderful piece of work showcasing Renior's work, but the history of Paris and the change in the political climate in France as well. This was new information for me. You also offered up a brief biography of Renior's early work as a young artist onward to his incredible work as one of the impressionists. I have had the privilege of seeing his work in person. The light, details, and color is mesmerizing. I wished I could step into the party by the Seine and join the party. I have to say I loved his work, it looked like everyone was enjoying the sunny day socializing happily and you wanted to be a part of it. As per usual DW your work is always fresh and new and gives new information and details. Very enjoyable. Many thanks.

What everyone misses about the attraction of impressionism is that our brain focuses on the vagueness of everything and tries to complete it. Our brains focus on the incompleteness or the out of focus and tries to complete what it sees and bring it into focus. The colors and general shapes are obtained easily at a glance and can be enjoyed readily without the distraction of detail. Then the brain focuses the eyes and fills in the details and participates in the painting of the work of art by completing it in the mind. Completing or solving the obscured gives the brain satisfaction and or pleasure. Think about it.

With scenes of freedom, life spend with others, laughing, sharing free time, on the best day of the week. The continuous Sunday feeling. A dreamy pastry. A sweet and gentile, doll house kind of impression. The Barbie Painter of his time.

The British woman narrating pronounced all the French names with such an effort to sound French, then kept saying Watteau with a W sound rather than the V sound that the French use. It sounded a bit silly. In my art history classes at university my professors all said it the French way, 'Vatteau' and we are out in the hinterland of the U.S.

Just think about it, about the fact that Renoir was considered "outlandish"! That the status quo thought that that was not how art was supposed to look like! It's just impossible for us to understand that mindset. Impressionism is now regarded as kind of a Conservatives Avant-garde... There's always a status quo that thinks what art is supposed to be. Today is not different. The goal, for all of us, is to understand what is the current status quo ( It's really, really hard to reach such understanding), only then we can be free.

JP was right! Once we stop sacrificing our time for what is commonly know as god ( highest position and highest element ) we started slowly focusing on "lower" things and hedonistic nature of PEOPLE aim to stand out so they moved away from this more and more ( here is "common people" and later it will be low things and today we have lowest of the low and therefore we flipped the hierarchy completely hahahahah ). This is astonishing!
Yo! New is not necessary better but that's what artist here and viewers think! Confusing it with "progress" hahah JP was right!
