Chris is in his element here, carving it up and still producing an epic review (is there anyone better in this format?), this is the greatest medicine.
I’ve ridden the GS… its a very good tool bike. It’s probably the best long distance adventure bike. But its boring compared to a Multistrada. Sorry to GS fans, but its true.
Cracking location for a launch but I reckon you could have been riding this around Skegness and it would be equally as engaging and watchable. 44T reviews are the most ‘real-world’ and relatable of all the other bike channels. Couple that with some of the best production values for this sort of content (that B-roll footage is knuckle-bitingly stunning) and it’s still baffling how you don’t have subs into the millions by now. Keep up the cracking work chaps!
Yes, the Akro pipe does make a significant sound difference, and also power and “snap”, and much lighter, without any negative effect on the smoothness or day long rideability. I went for the V4s after riding back to back with the competition. Never regretted it…… and none of the others match the top end
Centre stands are a must have for me. I use mine constantly, be it for parking on a soft surface, packing luggage on etc etc. Honestly it sucks how few new bikes have them available anymore.
Came from owning a Multistrada 1200 Enduro to a BMW 1250GSA, not going back to Ducati, BM has brilliant comfort, amazing fuel economy and no chain to worry about!
I’ve ridden both the GS 1250 and the Multistrada V4 and the Ducati is just much more fun and emotionally engaging than a GS. But I’m a Ducati fanboy so I admit I’m biased. I’d rather have a GS off-road though, however I don’t go off road ever.
I’m an ADV rider and love the sound of this. However, I don’t think I’d really be comfortable with this as an ADV bike. I was on an ADV course this weekend and dropped my GSA 15 times, twice on the pavement. I usually drop it once a weekend and ride it off-road every weekend and tour on it too. Even just the mirrors on this bike having the blind spot detection and signals would get so expensive to replace, and I’d definitely break it. Even on the GSA the indicators were broken in only s couple of months and needed to replace them with shorter indicators. When heading off into the mountains or on a tour, I fill it up and don’t stop until the first fuel stop after about 225 miles (275 mile range). I’d have had to stop at least twice on the MS. When spending a weekend in the dirt and camping, I need at least 50 miles a day and don’t want to have to leave to find a gas station. It’s a cool but, but it just doesn’t seem practical for real world ADV usage. I think I’d just stick to the road with this one.
That looked like fun even the offroad sections you were not looking forward to at the start. Good test route with all sorts of mixed terrain including "the Doris" for pillion testing which is a first i have seen on a test. Was looking forward to this and hoping the bike was as good as it could have been. I reckon Chris might finally have shaken the GS habit and join quite a few of us who moved from GS to the Multistrada and havent looked back again. On my second Multi and combined 70,000 miles or so including commuting, hoonery and fully loaded touring in Europe with offroad sections and rocky mountain trails then you can also strip all the luggage and mirrors etc off the bike and go on a trackday and have a laugh. I would love the V4 Rally but will need to wait till they are a few years second hand before in my budget unfortunately.
Multistradas have always been the Bad Boy Touring Bike. The Hooligan ride for sure. With its quarter tun throttle you find yourself switching the throttle ON then OFF, then ON again , then OFF. All the time grinnin like a Hooligan that you are on Sunday.
How Chris, can you not love ! the smooth yet tangy smoothness of the love that is goats cheese. Nice work mate, its looks like a winner.... omfg i want one
One point about extended service intervals; they do this in the car industry and the first owner enjoys a reduced cost of ownership - fair enough. Unfortunately though with 9200+ mile oil changes as advertised here - if the car market is any indicator then second hand units will be suffering by the time they get past the PCP stages of ownership... Time will tell I guess if these prove to be a worthwhile second-hand buy, but I don't fancy trusting the longevity of extended service period engines myself.
I thought this was quite a serious, professional, constructive , informative review and then you said ‘ it takes the jerk out of chicken ‘😂 top riding by the way while giving a great commentary . Who said we can’t multitask 😜
Just noticed the price😮,a couple of pannies and an aluminium bash plate aside that's nearly £10k more than my fully speced KTM. I stick with the orange ,but the Duke is a magnificent bike.
Nice launch, seems like a lot of riding. To be honest it would be a crappy job but on what other launches can you test pillion comfort? I'm guessing lots of tourers ride two up. For me the main part is still the fact that it is just about the same bike it was last year but it just has more range which is the best change. it's become a better touring bike which is always what it has been. Cheers Chris you looked you had fun!

Wow that price makes the KTM 1290 the "cheap" option now in top of the range adventure bike market. Great Video as always Chris, Interested to find out if you get one, or a long term "test" bike...
Completely agree about the dash/cockpit; just feels a bit cheap, which isn’t what you want when it’s the thing you spend all day looking at when you’re riding. Same with the Desert X. Great review though; as a GSA owner that just didn’t gel with the V4S, this seems hugely tempting. Although I still think it’s a bit of a minger, compared to the Multi Enduro I used to own.
Please tell me you ordered one. You published this video while I was there the following week. I didn't watch it till after the ride. Absolutely magnificent machine.
I heard something about the chugging being a way to get a more grippy back tire, since lack of motor power give the tire recovery and thus it will stick better.
Great video, always entertaining and what an awesome bike ,but did notice a little contradiction in it's usability referring to the engine characteristics. I have the KTM 1290 SAS and find that can be very easy to use at low speeds even in Sport mode, then leap off like a bastard when required,my previous bike was a Ducati XDIAVEL and as you know at low speed was a very different animal. £27,640 OMG next year we will be at at £30k bike for sure. While it may be an awesome bike, I would rather take the Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer at £8,145 cheaper.
Lets see if the new GSA will be able compete with this one. Flagship Touring bike, the new K Series, was release without the Radar Cruise and Blind Spot and the excuse was inexcusable. I hope that's not the case with the new GSA. Here in the US, the Black version of the Ducati V4 Rally is $30,500 plus TTF while the GSA is around $25,000 (with the hard cases more like $26,500). It is quite bit saving over the Ducati since the current GSA is still a fantastic machine. I am sure the price of the new GSA will be higher by at least 5% to 7%.
I wonder if (massive if) one had a v4 Pikes Peak and wanted to tour on it, could you buy and fit the bigger tank? Ducati probably wouldn’t stand over the change in dynamics but interested to know….
