    Nice winter trip. It was good to see each of your gear setups too. Helpful to see how to hammock camp in winter. That dinner looked amazing. Heck yeah for having that on the trail. Easier to do in the winter than in the summer. Awesome way to bring in the new year. Well done. Have a wonderful day.

      Thanks Steve! I’m trying to go through my gear on my trips at camp. I try to do more cooking in the winter. You’re right much easier. And it is something to do when it gets dark early. lol. 👍

    Awesome campsite by the creek.

      I love their hammocks. Really nice quality. That is one of the best camp sites I’ve stayed at. Very big and open with plenty of water. Winter backpacking at its best! 👍

    Good one Dan! Glad you're getting out in the snow like you mentioned you were looking to do this winter. Gives you a whole new playground of gear toys to play around with! Glad you enjoy the stove and that you got some time in the outdoors with some good food 👍

      Thanks Dave! It’s really a different thing to do a winter trip in the snow as opposed to no snow. Just isn’t the same. But we just got a big snow fall Sunday and it’s almost gone already. Will be 50F in a day or so. I was actually impressed with the stove. It was around $20 I believe. Great buy. 👍

    Such a great campsite and waking up with the light snow cover was a nice bonus. It's nice to hear how well that stove is for actual cooking. Happy New Year.

      It’s
      An excellent camp site and not to far from the trailhead. That stove worked well. It as only like $25 from Amazon. It’s perfect for cooking but if it’s really cold I would switch to using propane. But you need to get the adapter for that. It allows you to attach it to those green propane tasks for camping. Happy New Year!!

    Great video, thank you! A new year's eve trip sounds like a lot of fun. I've been looking for a remote fuel stove for winter camping. I added that BRS stove to my list, I think that's the one.

      Thanks! It is a really great stove. If you plan on using it in deep cold, make sure you also get the propane adapter since the isobutane. Won’t work well in really cold temps. Then you can use those green propane tanks.

    I'd love to know how you got that fire started? As you were hiking this trail, I was on Thunder Swamp, and it was soaked. It definitely does not look as wet as where I was. Awesome video, thanks for sharing the experience.

    • @backpackingadventures4813
      @backpackingadventures4813  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks ! We just set it up and lit it. lol. I usually also have those little fire starters I get at Walmart which I used one here. But the wood and small stuff right in that camp site was relatively dry or dry enough. It did take a while for it to be hot enough for it to go on its own without attending and almost went out once. I also have a pocket bellows which is a little telescoping straw thing to blow into the fire. I have it on every winter trip or a trip where I’m spending most time in camp and want a fire. That is a game changer for me. Got it off Amazon.

      Happy New Year. I will not imply, as I did in a comment on a past video, that it's a burden on Dakota to "put up with" being in Dan's videos. Enjoy your adventures together. As Dakota said, the chance to look back on these videos years later will be great.

      @@1519Spring I’m still not sure what you mean by being a burden to put up with me in my videos. By saying you’re not implying is a passive aggressive way of actually implying it. Maybe it’s an inside thing with you and Dakota @stoicodysseys6352 ? At any rate, I agree. I love to rewatch them all the time. It keeps the good and tough memories fresh. Sometimes even a little nostalgic. Happy New Year to you too!

      @@1519Spring Absolutely, our trips I always cherish and you're right it's so special to be able to reminisce and live vicariously through Dan's videos whether I am along or not.
      I give him kudos for putting up with me, especially when I am hangry 😂. I've had some of the best backpacking trips of my life with Dan and I owe him a lot for all he's taught me on trail and his companionship. He's my backpacking brother! To many more trips 🥂 . @backpackingadventures4813 Sorry, Dan, that I'm totally failing to communicate with you through our common English language. Let's just leave it that I love what you and Dakota do, and I look forward to watching lots more in the future. Don't let the trolls in the comments (that I assure you I'm not one of) get you down. My intent was kind humor, but my execution was poor.

      @@outbackadventures8814hot tents are fun but a lot of work. I have one and used it a couple times a few years ago but not since. Maybe I’ll take it for a spin soon. I’m thinking I would like it better on a multi night trip where I’m base camped. I also saw they have hot tents for hammocks too. I could use my stove. That may be a different take on it.

    Hi Dan
    we talked last year about hammocks. I lost what we talk about. You said a 12 foot hammock for me for my 6'1,
    Im Looking for an all in 1 tarp that I can close the feet and head up. bug net, tree straps etc as far as the quit I get them later.

    • @backpackingadventures4813
      @backpackingadventures4813  2 місяці тому +1

      It is at mile 6.7 according to FarOut. You cross a creek on a suspension bridge and turn left. Then you come up on a picnic table. The camp site is about 30 yards past that on the left. Right by the camp site the trail crosses the creek on a cut log bridge. If you cross that you just passed it. It is listed in FarOut at mile 6.7.

      The camp site and parking are marked in the FarOut app. I parked at the the following address. It’s the main trailhead in the north at mile 0.
      Northern Gateway Trail Head, Rte 6
      PA Bureau of Forestry Bldg, Dist. 15
      3150 2nd St, Coudersport, pa 16915
      The campsite is at about mile 6.5 going clockwise on the trail. Mile markers start at zero and increase. So it’s a little after mile 6. The coordinates are 41.72170° N, 77.78650° W.
