  • I had bought a car from my best bud, but it had some very hard sap all over the top. My friend had worked his ass off with hot shampoo and done a valiant effort and got alot off. But there was still 50odd spots left on. I tried almost everything to get it off. Autoglym tar and sap remover. TFR
, a nail to scrape the top off . A light cutting compound. Even in desperation some light thinners. But nothing worked easily. Until I heard about medical IV disinfectant wipes.
They are the little wipes that they clean your skin before an injection, I guess they sell them at pharmacies for diabetics and other IV users.
The ones I used were made by Clinell and have "2% Chlorhexidine in 70% alcohol" .
    £5.11 ($7usd) for 200 Clinell wipes now in 2019
    Or
£1.49($1.90) for 100 UHS wipes (Same thing different name).
Or go into a hospital or pharmacy, they'll sometimes give you a few if you ask nicely.
As you can see its like magic. Follow it with a shampoo and ideally a polish.

Thanks very much for this! So incredibly easy and cheap. Really works well. I had just bought a used car with a still incredible paint finish save for 5 very hardened tree sap deposits (years old I reckon). After rubbing for a short amount of time, and with the aid of a fingernail I was able to remove what seemed to be the impossible in around 2 mins per spot. Anybody reading this: look no further than your first aid kit for tree sap removal!

Thanks for your informative video! I tried this technique on what I thought were paint blisters, but was actually hardened tree sap that remained wash after wash, polishing and waxing for over a year. A painter suggested it could be tree sap, and I then came across your video where the tip worked perfectly! My car paint is two years old since the respray and it's spotless again. Thank you.

Just to clear it up the wipes are "Clinell '2% Chlorhexidine in 70% Alcohol' small wet wipes ". They're the wipes you use to clean and disinfect skin before an IV injection. You can buy them from a pharmacy or online and they're cheap as chips.

Shane I'm sure by saying 70% or Better you mean more cconcentrated like 91% or 99%!! At these high levels the alcohol becomes a Very Fine Solvent. Which means that it can and will remove or at least damage the Clear Coat (the invisible layer of a Clear Polymer, which Protects the Paint and gives it the luster. In addition higher Concentration of Alcohol also will damage your main paint. I'm neither being combative nor sarcastic. But if you have the means to trade your Vehicle for a Brand new one every year, then you can use 91 or 99% alcohol 😊 love and Peace

I think you are right on the money! I have found that alcohol based hand disinfectant ( like Purell) worked on my big blobs of hardened tree sap on my car. It must be the alcohol in these products that work.

Yeah I think so. Strange it works so much better than the 90% rubbing alcohol liquid though. And no damage to clear coat either !

@@realMaverickBuckley Yes, hand sanitizer with microfibre cloth works. I suspect the hand sanitizer doesn't evaporate as quickly as straight alcohol.

Sorry, it's a medical wet wipe that's used to clean skin pre IV injection. 2% Chlorhexidine in 70% Isopropyl alcohol.
If you still need some just type in 'pre injection alcohol wipes'. They're around $1.90 for 100 right now. If you can, look for some with the 2% Chlorhexidine.
      Thanks
