Released in September 1996, Mario 64 launched the Nintendo 64 to awes of the new 3D game play. Mario gets new moves in the 3D world such as a wall jump and triple jump which he uses on his journey to collect 120 power stars, which Bowser has sealed away inside the castle paintings. A DS remake was released on November 21, 2004. Instead of just playing as Mario, this time, Mario, Luigi and Wario are now trapped. You start off with Yoshi and save your allies in their own portraits. In place of the original analog controls, players can either use the D-Pad or the Touch screen. Other additions include: 150 Stars in total, Wireless Multiplayer, and Touch Screen Minigames to increase its lifespan. Source: SDA Game page
As one of the earlier three dimensional (3D) platform games, Super Mario 64 features free-roaming analog degrees of freedom, large open-ended areas, and true 3D polygons as opposed to two-dimensional (2D) sprites. It established a new archetype for the genre, much as Super Mario Bros. did for 2D sidescrolling platformers. Hailed as "revolutionary", the game left a lasting impression on 3D game design, particularly notable for its use of a dynamic camera system and the implementation of its analog control. Source: Wikipedia.org
In going from two to three dimensions, Super Mario 64 placed an emphasis on exploration within vast worlds that require the player to complete multiple diverse missions, replacing the linear obstacle courses of traditional platform games. While doing so, it managed to preserve many gameplay elements and characters of earlier Mario games. The title is acclaimed by many critics and fans as one of the greatest and most revolutionary video games of all Source: Wikipedia.org
For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

I know these records have been demolished in the ever growing speedrunning scene in the years since this video. But for me, this is the speedrunning I know and love, just a bunch of people in a room watching a legend completely obliterate a beloved game in some of the most impressive ways imaginable.

If I can be perfectly honest, I completely miss the smaller GDQ's. Been watching since the beginning and I miss the "just a group of friends being awesome" vibe. It is way too commercialized and celebrity oriented now. Feels like some bullshit Hollywood production where the point is getting publicity to grow the channels of the runners, rather than the games and the charity.

@@GhostDrow I agree on this! Been watching since AGDQ12. When speedrunners turned into so called "content creators" trying to make big money, instead of just streaming/playing/speedrunning games, that's where real speedrunning kinda died. sad

Not even just speedrunning history, but twitch and livestreaming history in general. Siglemic was the most famous speedruner in the world and 70/120 were the most popular speedrun categories in the world. He was showing up in person and showing his face to the world for the first time. And he was surrounded by many of the other most famous speedrunners in the West. It was mindblowing that this was even happening. Essentially everyone on twitch was watching this. If you went to look at the other highest viewed streams it was all just other streamers reacting to it with a facecam.

Hahahaha "if everyone high fives each other", thats a good one, these guys are doing something really wonderful, my grandmother, who died of cancer, use to love playing games with me, she'd be so proud of these guys if she were here today. Great job, I wish I hadn't missed the event, I'd give every cent I had toward the cause. *Faith in humanity restored.*

The 2 biggest GDQ events are usually held around January and July. Although, there are many more smaller charity marathons popping up lately. The Sonic Center is doing one as I'm writing, and another, Itching to get Faster, will be going on Easter weekend. Additionally, you can check out each individual runner to see how they progress before each marathon. A good place to find such streamers is Speed Demos Archive or Speed Runs Live, along with lots of info about upcoming marathons.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at 41:45 does a donor say, "my sister had vaginal cancer but I still love her so much"?
If I'm indeed hearing this correctly, does this donor make a presumption that vaginal cancer generally precludes a person from being loved?

    • @xJackieBx

CubingDrumz also the original post never said he was awesome simply because he donated, you added that into it, and so what if he donated $100 dollars, sounds pretty petty of me to say someone isn't as awesome, based on how much less they chose to donate at the time.

I thought the same thing from another video! I believe he is a member of the same soul fractal energies as Keanu. They process thought and hold energy in their voices and bodies similarly. And on top of that, they both are masters of the matrix!-one with Morpheus, and the other with Marious :)
