I'm a high school senior from Fremont, California considering applying to Wellesley and this video helped a lot! Thank you so much! Also while watching you, just by the way you act and speak, I KNEW you were from Fremont like myself and I kid you not, when you started talking about the pressure in your high school, I thought to myself, "I bet she went to Mission." Checked your website in the description and guess I was right! haha - I have a lot of friends from Mission and I can always seem to recognize them and my fellow Bay Area-ers
+Amii M I FEEL THIS HAHAHAH it's like you instinctively know when you're looking at another MSJHS student (or another Bay Area student). Hope your senior year is going well, and good luck with the application process! You're almost through with this hell.
Thank you Lucy! This video is such a great help (I'm entering in the fall :)) You should circulate this video around more or get it posted on the official Wellesley webpage!
Thank you for this video! I'm also from the Bay Area-- (are there many students from the bay area at Wellesley!?) and your video helped me a lot in finding out about student life at your college. Thank you so much!
+Hannah Wu Hello! Glad you found this helpful. :) (And yeah, I've actually met a whole lot of students from California and the bay area at Wellesley. surprisingly. :D)
Oh wow, I didn't know any youtaites went to Wellesley. I got accepted and went to spring open campus, but I'm still trying to decide, ahhh. This video was really helpful, though. Thanks a bunch for posting this!
VainHarmony Yeah, no problem! Hope you enjoyed Spring Open Campus. :) Ham and I go here, and there's also an artist in the community who attends as well. Good luck with your decision!
Sadly, I filmed this at home where Ham is not at all nearby :( If I filmed another one while on campus I can definitely make this happen though HAHAHA Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful!
thank you so much for this video!! i'm hopefully going to apply next year. I was just wondering what your experience with/what you know about financial aid? i've heard wellesley has fantastic financial aid and i really need that to be true if i'm going to attend haha
Glad this helped! I can connect you to someone who can talk about their financial aid experience, if you'd like. Feel free to shoot me an email (you can find it in the description) if you're interested :)
Hello! Thank you so much for making this video! It really inspired me to look more into Wellesley College, as well as the Media Arts and Sciences major. One question I have regarding the major is what kinds of internship/job opportunities are available for those who major in Media Arts and Sciences? Thanks! :)
+MagicPinkyHearty As an MAS major, you're essentially a programmer with an art portfolio, or an artist with programming experience, depending on which focus you choose. This opens up opportunities in a loooot of areas: you could choose to work as just a programmer (what I did eventually, and then changed my major to CS hahah), go into UI/UX, more design-correlated roles, Human-Computer Interaction research, and toooons more that I wish we all had the time to explore. ;) I'm glad you found this video helpful!
+Lyrratic I'm also excited about the Media Arts and Sciences major!. Are there opportunities within this major to pursue web design, product design and architecture? I know there's an architecture major too, so have you heard anything about that? Also is it easy to take classes in this field at other schools such as MIT, Brandeis, Frank W. Olin? Thank you!
+Awang6041 Ooh, while I haven't met any architecture majors myself (except like one my first year and I actually have no idea if she's still an architecture major at this point) I do know that you can get a dual degree with Olin or MIT as an architecture student. As for product design/web design, MAS is definitely an ideal major for those career paths. :) Cross-registration is mildly annoying but not too bad, you just need to make sure to really be on top of clarifying the process and timeline and prioritizing cross-registered classes (scheduling your Wellesley courses around your MIT course instead of the other way around).
Wonderful video! It was very helpful. I'm applying for fall 2015, and I was wondering if I could put you down as a way I learned about Wellesley? It's a question on the common app, but I don't want to mention you if you aren't comfortable with it. Thanks!
Hey so I was admitted to Wellesley and I from the Bay Area. It is looking like I will attend in the Fall (yay!), but I was wondering more about the Taiko group. I have been playing taiko drums since the fourth grade and it is not something I want to give up.
+emmetod17 Ooh, hello! Congratulations! Please shoot me an email at Lshen@wellesley.edu and I'll see if I can dig up any Aiko contacts for you to talk to. :) Thanks for reaching out, and welcome!
Hey! The vedio was really helpful. Thanks a lot. Btw what was your SAT score and are you a scholarship student. I am just asking cause i also want to study here and i wanna compare my scores and stuff like that.
Did you do wushu before Wellesley? What is wushu like there? I'm just wondering bc I've been doing wushu all my life and I have been considering Wellesley :)
Hello, This was such a helpful video and thank you. I'm currently a community college student from MD and wanted to know are you familiar with the transfer requirements for students? Meaning how many out of state transfer students attend Wellesley? I know this may not apply to you so if you can't answer this I understand. Thanks again ✌🏿️.
I actually have no clue what that metric would be :o Took a quick look around Google and didn't see any data specifically on out-of-state transfer students at Wellesley. As for transfer requirements, the best place to find information is probably here: www.wellesley.edu/admission/esp/transfer I'm not a transfer student myself so I don't know much, sorry! Glad you found the video helpful, and good luck!
I actually have no clue, haha. I don't think I personally know anyone who's on the debate team either, unfortunately. :( If you're able to locate the team online somewhere, feel free to reach out to any of its members and I'm sure they'll share their thoughts with you. :)
I'm currently going to be a junior in high school. what was your GPA in high school to get accepted? I'm most likely going to play a varsity sport in wellesley (if all works out) 8D
I'm strongly considering doing an interview with a Wellesley student, I was wondering what a prospective student would typically expect from an interview? Thank you!
+Ella Jenke I'll just give you a quick overview of what my interview was like. ;D We scheduled for a time we were both available and met at a Peets Coffee, and then talked over coffee seriously in interview format (tell me about yourself, what are you interested in studying, why wellesley, all the usual stuff) and then spent another extra hour just kind of... chatting? I think it depends on how well you and your interviewer hit it off or how busy they are that day, so definitely don't worry if they cut it off right at the ending mark as well, but definitely relax and just try to treat it like any regular conversation with a friend. :) The interviewers are there to get a better feel for who you are as a person, so relax and let yourself be yourself. Also, at some point I spilled my hot chocolate all over myself and my nice interview clothes. :( Still got the admission though AAAAYYYYYYYYyyy
I understand that Wellesley now accepts trans women into the college, when you were there, how many students would you say were trans women and how do you feel about the decision to accept them? I won't be offended by your opinion so feel free to say whatever you want, also feel free to let me know if you are not comfortable answering the question as well
That change actually didn't take place until right after I graduated, so I don't believe I met any trans women while I was there! I remember it was a pretty contentious topic but I think it makes plenty of sense to accept trans women; we're a (historically) women's college after all, and trans women are women. I think the complications come with nonbinary people (do you end up with a policy that will take applications from everyone EXCEPT cis men?) and even as someone who now identifies as nonbinary myself I'm not sure what my opinion on it is LOL Either way, I do think the campus as a whole now is very welcoming to trans people (whether trans women or otherwise) and I also think that it's only gotten better since I graduated in 2017 :D Though of course I haven't personally been there in a few years now
@@ying_verse I agree it shouldn't even be a contentious thing. Good to know the campus is more open now. My son was assigned male but recently changed gender to female and is planning to apply
I guess Jews cannot counter accusations against them with regards to Israels actions....Arab students seem to frighten many campuses in America forbidding Jews or pro Israel speakers from engaging in free speech and peaceful discourse...Berkeley and Concordia are just a few were Jews were beaten and attacked by Arab s....I will not send my daughter to your school next year because of this. You sound like a nice person. Please tell others about this injustice...Shalom
Hi! Do you know how important it is to paint or do any type of art if I want to do Art History at Wellesley? I'm a junior so I definitely want to take into account the type of requirements colleges have before I apply. Thanks!
I'm totally unfamiliar with the art/art history department, sorry! Since Wellesley encourages a lot of early exploration before deciding on a major, I get the feeling that your prior experience probably won't matter all that much. AFAIK (though I don't know much sorry) the major you put down on your application doesn't actually count in any serious way? It's more of an interest-gauging thing, since declarations don't happen until sophomore year.
+Ada Li IIRC: MSJTV (monthly high school news "broadcast") for 2 years, an anti-trafficking club for 3 years, Speech (but not debate: my events were DI, HI, and OP) for 1 year, theater (onstage, tech, and house staff) for 4 years, anime club for 4 years, Songwriters' Guild (a club I founded and disbanded when it became inactive) for 2 years. I was also on the varsity Girls' Golf team for 4 years and served as one of the two team captains during my final year. I held officer/leadership positions in all but Speech. Hope this was helpful!
+Ada Li I'm actually pretty sure I'd never really won any awards and prizes (I think I had like one Speech award and one or two golf ones total), so I really don't think you need to worry about that. :) Focus on everything else that makes you awesome!
+Donna Gan As far as I know, yes you should be able to! I've always been under the impression that the validity of transferring hinges a lot more on the school you end up at rather than the school you transfer out of, but I haven't done much research on this so I am admittedly not at all certain about this 8'D Also sorry this answer is so late HAHAH
MooCowPoopPoop I'm from the Bay Area too! Yeah, you'll be a little surprised at how different people can be, but I think that's what makes it all so fun.
MooCowPoopPoop I don't really know much about the essay, but I honestly hammered mine out in less than half an hour because I didn't overthink it and just kind of put down whatever was in my mind. I can't say for certain that the same would work for you, but I was definitely happy with what I had.
I kinda wanna go. Im pretty indifferent to the "all girls " thing, but im feeling the pressure from my friends. Them: EGAD! YOU WANNA GO TO AN ALL GIRLS SCHOOL?!?! Me: well, when you say it like that... :/
