Picked up one today. This is by far the best set of videos explaining the features on the kx2. Thank you so much for making this learning task a dream.
Hi, greetings from the UK! Great video, very useful insights. I am glad to learn your opinion about the dedicated paddles for the KX2. I was between those and the Begali Adventure as they also offer an adapter for the KX2. I will probably go for the latter. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, great quick reference for me. Just got my KX2 and it is my first HF radio, so being able to go over your 2 videos on the KX2 multiple times has been of solid benefit. I'm sure some will wonder why the KX2 for my first HF, this is because my primary Ham radio interest is SOTA. 73 from Mark KM6MCG
I am glad for you. I hope you enjoy the KX2 as much as I do mine. Please.....make sure you use a good antenna for SOTA........That's the key to having fun. Barry, KU3X
Hello Barry, I'm an Extra Class, having come up through the ranks beginning at the wise old age of 11 as a Novice, and now in my 60s I find my interests in DXing and contesting are all behind me as I enjoy simple rag-chew, mostly on the 40m & 80m bands. What I'm wondering is this; Which radio would best suit me in my tiny, but comfortable, retirement cottage where inches matter? I've tried a HUGE IC-7300 but found it unusable when my neighbor was OTA, even destroying my receive on 160m while he was TXing on 80m! I brought my IC-7000 mobile into the house and no more receive issues, I could even hold a QSO with S8 stations only 15KCs away on 80m! Wanting something newer (as well as portable for backpacking) I'm looking for the most diminutive rig which will provide me with the "nearest to a big rig like the K-3S" in RX selectivity & overall SQ that I can get. I'll use it mostly for evening 80m/160m rag-chew and amplified through a custom built LD Mos amp providing about 1200w pep with ~4w drive. - I was set on a KX-3 until I discovered the KX-2 existed, only a few minutes ago! So, *May I ask your opinion of the two* when it comes to a comparison between them *in overall SSB receiver performance?* Thank you & 73!
I would say that are pretty much the same. One is just smaller than the other and the KX2 lacks 160 meters as well as 6 meters. If I were getting either mostly for the primary station or a cabin, I'd get the KX3 since you can add a filtering option. This would help for receive in crowded band condition. Good luck, Barry, KU3X/QRP
The KX2 really is a great little radio, but the size is the big seller for back packer's. Since the K2 is a bigger radio, did you consider the KX3 instead? I have both the KX2 and KX3. I will not part with either of the radios since I like them both. KX3 is not mostly in the primary station. The KX2 has become my, "Grad and Go Radio ." Barry
Been lookin' at this for a while. Now that I've seen it in somebody's hands besides Wayne & Eric, it looks like the decision's gonna be easy. Once I get the money together ;-) Thanks.
Hi Barry. I'm late to the party..by 6 years, but if you would, can you please tell me, does your KX2 "click" when you touch BAND, then turn the VFO between bands? Mine does and I'm worried. Thanks
Can you do a video on how to use the tuner to check swr I know you need to it on bypass but I can’t figure out how to get it to display the swr from that point
QUESTION I'm stuck on VFO B SIDE I'm stuck frq can't get out of frq I can't seleted and still on frq ! what should I do I have read book severel time no luck !
I know. I found that out a few months ago, long after the above video was made, but it's worth mentioning now. I wish someone would take the manufacturing of same. I'm glad I have three sets of them at this time. Barry, KU3X
je viens de découvrir votre video : c'est mieux que la notice ou je ne trouve pas tout... par exemple comment entrer le 0, le point, et le 9 dans la séquence entrée directe de fréquences au clavier. merci alainf8feo
Barry Kery Thanks sir. What's the advantage of this radio, versus something from LNR Precision as a grab and go radio? Such as the LD-11 or something like that? LNR radios are all far less costly, so I wonder what you get for the extra on an Elecraft? (Plus elecraft makes you assemble the thing yourself, which I don't like). 73!
One feature that I liked the most is, "it is completely self contained." Internal tuner if needed, great battery inside, very high performance for both transmit and receive and I even have the clock in mine. Not even a need to carry a hand mic, there is one built into the radio. I need a grab and go radio and this is it. Most other radio you have to carry more equipment with you. Maybe an external battery, hand mic, possible antenna tuner and don't forget to wear you watch. I also have a KX3 but my go to portable radio is ALWAYS the KX2. It all depends on your needs. If you are only going to use this radio in the primary station, most any radio will do.
The tuner is an option. Yes, mine has the built in tuner. I only use resonant antennas but still like to have a tuner just in case. I keep the tuner in the bypass mode and only use it if needed. Barry
Barry Kery thanks for the quick reply Barry.. i think its going to be the 817 and a tuner then given the cost... shame looks like an amazing rig thanks for ur videos they are great. de EI2GYB
Steve, I had an FT-817 and loved it. It is also a great little, "One Radio Do All !" I needed a compact and 100% self contained radio. For me, the KX2 was the only SMALL radio on the market that fit my needs. Barry
What a mess. It tells you how many AH you've instead of how much is left. Crazy. Can't charge the batteries while installed. Never seen that feature in a mobile phone. ;)
Anything else you want to nit pick on? Want a better video? Go make one ! Maybe I could go to Hollywood California and pay them a couple thousand dollars to make a better video for me so you don't have to Whine !

I know this is an old video - but I've been thinking about picking one of these up...

Outstanding! Much appreciated. Well done.
Thanks, I will be taking delivery on a KX2 in a few days and this video gives me an idea of what it can/cannot do. Thanks again.
Glad my video helped you make your decision. Great little, "Grab and Go" radio.
Good luck with your new toy.

Thanks for the review, Barry. I love my KX1 and am seriously considering buying the KX2 now. I was leaning towards the K2 but now I'm not so sure.

Glad you liked the video. I think you'll enjoy the KX2. It's my, "Go To" QRP radio, and I have other QRP radios to choose from.

Thank you for this review. One question. How long KX3 may do transmission on high power 10 watts ?
I have never run either my KX2 or KX3 on ten watts. I am only QRP CW. Sorry.
KU3X

How different is the receive on the kx3 and kx2?
Was thinking of buying one, but looks too complicated for my taste.
