I experienced this a lot in the Air Force. I served with many white guys from small racist communities that struggled after getting to know black people like myself they really liked, respected and could count on if they ever needed help. I could see it hurt them that they had been taught such hurtful bigotry growing up.

@@msqueen3513 It’s a beautiful thing. Both of my folks served for over 20 years. My dad was a white dude and my mom is a Southern black woman - they rubbed shoulders with and befriended all types, they hated war but had/have tremendous respect for their fellow soldiers, and all of that gets passed down to army brats. It takes a cold soul to live with and depend on people from every corner of the planet and come out of the experience a bigot. I’m glad my parents taught me the right way.

Yes, exactly. It’s hard too explain sometimes when you come from a vicious family and you start to learn better. My great grandfather and Lester Maddox were dear friends. I had to tolerate Maddox’ presence from time to time clear up to my great grandmother’s 90th birthday. Every time I saw him I had spent the time between learning something else horrifying about him. I know one thing, I don’t belong in this family, neither do my children.

I’ve experienced racism a lot and still do. Our daughters became best friends because my daughter stood up to someone bullying her daughter. Our first play date she treated me like a sister! SHE HAS NEVER CHANGED. She has faced some racist moments with me as well. She stood strong and didn’t back down. We can talk about anything. I watch her kids so she can have a date with her husband and she does the same for me. It’s amazing the best friendship of my life came from a beautiful soul only after letting my guard down.

Anywho, my mother and dad worked hard to provide for us children. There were 7 mouthes to feed. We took 2 vacations my whole childhood. Those were to only visit 2 older children that happened to be stationed somewhere state side. If he had to spend money, it didn't happen. I do not understand why, because we are white, we have "connections or we're wealthy". My mother and dad worked hard, 12 hours a day while us kids looked after the other. But it’s not rampant and it’s not taught by 99.999% of anyone I have ever met. If she learned that behavior, shame on those who expressed those emotions. I knew her answer. I knew a white man there too. He used to be racist, I asked what changed your mind? While he served in Vietnam, he seen alot of death. He noticed a fellow soldier who was black, he was bleeding,he was bleeding red ,just like everyone else. That changed his mind and life. Respect comes in all shapes, size, race, color, sex, religion etc. What or how you use or demonstrate it,is up to you. Respect is earned, you can't give it away and expect people to return it the same way. Love shouldn't be color blind, neither should respect. Me personally would rather have a bf or be married to a man of color who loves me for me,respects me,is kind, caring, faithful, honest everything a man should be. Than a white man who beats, abuses,no respect, isn't kind, not loving etc.

That flag represents two different things to him and myself. However he is a good mechanic and I really don't know him personally. After seeing these two interacting with each other and the mindset the black guy had about not being judgemental and be more inquisitive and her mindset changing after coming out of her bubble made me realize that my approach and how I interact with this older white male might have hope if I go in humble because my feelings and emotions are leading to easily judge this man's beliefs and character and I don't want to make him out to be something he may not be.

Great way to look at things. After all, if he turns out to be a lousy mechanic or too expensive you can always find a new one. But who knows what will happen if you go with the mindset you already have. To treat him decent and expect to be treated decent in return!

What you are seeing now is simply the effects of 400+ years of purposeful racialization. It is unreasonable and naive to expect it to just vanish, especially considering that there are still innumerable violations of civil/human rights today.

Cheers Chris. I have realized that certain factions in the U.S. (or beyond) actively shy away from accountability, or inspecting the genesis of negative occurrences today. Instead, they use inane props like the media, politicians (partially justified), Satan, etc. to explain the discord and disparities in society.
It's like they want the lies and deflections to become the standard responses for ills of today. Or, they simply blame the victims of longstanding transgressions for their misfortunes. Rather disgusting or yank, if you ask me. Good weekend to ya mate.

Different ethnicities -- yes, but different races -- no. The word "ethnicity" is derived from the Greek root word, "ethnos," meaning nation. In fact, it's where we get the word, "ethnic" meaning "a member of a minority group who retains the customs, language, or social views of the group."

We would always meet out in public so i felt safe and eventually we started meeting in restaurants over a meal like these two. He was such a lovely guy and he told me he was going through a divorce, i asked him to pray for the Lords intervention and he said pls don't be offended but i am not a religious person nor do i believe in God. I was shocked, Don is such a good guy how on earth isn't he an usher at church or a born again Christian? (Close minded thinking) I listened to his belief and i think it made me a non judgmental person. The more we listen, the more we learn. Even thou he doesn't practice a religion, he practiced putting out what you wish to receive hence being a good person. He lives better than most people i know. I walked away with new knowledge. Don and i shared the exact same values just through different belief systems.

This nation still hurts from slavery, to it's aftermath...
to reconstruction, to Jim Crow South, to the Civil Rights era, clear to now.
The injustices, the systematic racism, police brutality, police murdering of blk citizens unwarranted, etc.
The wound is too deep, it's deeply embedded into the psyche, the mistrust of police, the judicial system, the govt, and of white people.
I grew up during segregation, colored only facilities, no colored allowed, boycotting, marching, seeing my PawPaw being called boy by someone barely out of boyhood themselves,
riding at the back of the bus, having to give up our seats to white people.
I never actually saw a lynching, but in my childhood and again in the deep south,
this was a weekly occurence it'd seem.
It was always in the papers, on TV, talked about amongst the elders, in church service, and a constant topic at the barbershop.
The 50s was a scary time and place for me, to me white man was the boogeyman and I was afraid of them as a child, I felt defenseless.
We didn't have the diagnosis back then of PTSD, but can you imagine that the majority of Blacks suffer from PTSD,
just from the ramifications of slavery, but we're told keep quiet, we've never been slaves...
mentally, psychologically, and emotionally we are every bit of the slaves from the actual slavery era, minus the plantation, cotton, rice, sugar and the whip.
I was 11 when LBJ signed the CRA of 1964,
and to this day, year 2023,...
I still have that bad taste in my mouth, from not only what I witnessed but what I endured, the elements, the environment I was subjected too.
    For the life of me,
I could never, and still never can understand the evilness, sadisticness,
and coldness in a man's heart to another man simply because of the color of his skin.
To have lynch picnics, men, women children eating lunch laughing, celebrating as a blk man is being stripped, beaten, castrated, burned alive and hung. As the revelers cut off pieces of his body for souvenirs, as he's being photographed to be printed as post cards, as keepsakes.
White people will never understand this, but I imagine the Native American, and Jewish people do...
and there are so many of us still living today, born in the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s that still carry these wounds, scars, trauma..
walking history books, walking encyclopedias, time capsules, mental time machines, living documentaries, relics from a time long ago, but not so long ago.
Google race riots in America, and you'll be shocked at how many there were between 1900-1930.
Racism is embedded in this country's flag, on it's soil, on it's trees the blood soaked deep down to the earth's core...
I didn't intend on writing this, my intention was to comment on the video...
but as I thought my content,
the memories spewed forth like the Hoover Dam bursting or collapsing.
I don't apologize tho, this is why we as blks in America are so messed up.
This is why we must discuss this part of our history here in America. This is American history.
We discuss the Jewish Holocaust, and dare not speak negative on it or we're ostracized...
we better not say anything negative about 9/11, Pearl Harbor,
or in the south, the Civil War,... the American Flag, or the Star Spangled Banner.
BUT I do believe that what was learned, and taught can be unlearned and untaught.
    This video,
is indicative of that, two very unlikely people, finding common ground, and becoming friends.
It was heart warming to watch, and I wish the young lady continued sobriety,
and for her yungun' to benefit from their friendship,
and to grow up and not see color.
As well as the rest of this country,
BUT when do we address the true elephant in the room...🤔
When does America pay her debt to the blk race...🤔
    I'm not speaking reparations,
but a debt is owed, just like Germany to the Holocaust survivor's and their descendants...
This country literally was built off our backs, blood, sweat, tears, lives... the elite got rich off of our ancestors for 300yrs, and we've suffered as a people in this land for over 400... 158yrs since emancipation, and still fighting for inclusion... to be accepted as equals in some parts, I simply ask when...🤔
when does the healing truly begin to take place...🤔
