Can't believe it works! (But it does!) Fretless 3 strings? Never seen it. I think the action is a bit high, though. But sounds kinda deep and warm. Great job!
I have a Bogdon cardboard bass, which I bought years ago when the kit cost just $50! It's only a two-stringer, but it has a pickup and sounds great. Bogdon is a genius.
What if you get some fiberglass epoxy resin and mix it up and brush the epoxy onto the cardboard. Then it would be completely waterproof and sealed and like a clear supergloss varnish. (But not UV proof). Fiberglass epoxy resin is very easy to use.
I thought about that too, but think that getting the cardboard wet, even with resin, would make it soft and lose its shape before everything has a chance to cure. Also I worry about the weight of the bass after doing that and also I'm sure the tone would NOT get better! Water proof foam board is cheap and easy to work with, plus it keeps the cool DIY factor.

There is a fender youtube video collaboration with a cardboard manufacturer where they make a guitar out of cardboard then varnish it. Waterproof foam board is an insulator so it might absorb sound. Although maybe it doesnt matter since it is electric pickup anyway.
Leave it to a Postal guy to see a better way to use a shipping carton. I might be more interested in the shipping container that thing came in! Just kidding! Great idea and fun purchase!

Have you considered getting a Cigar Box Guitar (CBG) if you don't have one already? I built a couple and enjoy them immensely. 3 string, 4 string.
