I love Mameha's make up and the way she is dressed at Chyio's presentation. Very simple makeup, clothes and simple hairstyle. To not steal away the attention from Chyio. Very different from Hatsumno and Pumpkin

@@franz3810 the costumes are far from accurate but they are stylized for movie and can be interpreted in multiple ways. Mameha does not need to always be in the spot the same way Hatsumomo does, she dresses simply and elegantly because she's 'independent' geisha who can afford her 'freedom' the way other geisha and maiko can never achieve, according to the movie, while Hatsumomo still lives under the rule of Mother even though she is beautiful and well-paid geisha.

In the book is clarified that Mameha did dress simple to help Sayuri shine. It was part of her plan because she new that Hatsumomo couldn't do that for pumpkin and that will affect her, making Sayuri more succesfull.

The Chairman pretty much spelt it out at the end, hoping for Nobu to have a chance at peace and happiness. Despite the fact that this is growing story of compassion and love between Chiryo and the Chairman, Nobu is an unwitting obstacle, though not a malicious one because the story shows honour and respect for his character.

Mameha's goal is to bring Sayuri closer to Chairman, not Nobu. and in order to avoid Hatsumomo's bad intentions (who was disgusted by Nobu's face), Sayuri was advised to get close to Nobu as a diversion, Mameha knew very well that Nobu would not be interested in a geisha. Hatsumno though mean really had a sad story. She was in love and couldn't be with him because she was ultimately property of the Geisha house. Her virginity was for sale once she reached a certain level of fame. The goal was to fetch a very high price once she was desired by many. This price would help pay her debt, or the cost of the money spent on her care, training, clothing, etc. The best outcome for the Geisha was to pay the house off and find a wealthy benefactor to care for them if he chose to. Some of them could possibly have their own Geisha house. Because of her forbidden love, she was no longer a virgin and was therefore worthless for this auction. She was stuck working as a Geisha and couldn't be with her love.

It’s not a Japanese historical documentary. It’s a Hollywood movie based on a fictional book written by an American, filmed in Los Angeles, California. They want it to do big at the box office in the US which means the less amount of subtitles the better.
