  • The pump on your Coleman lantern pressurizes the fuel in the tank before use. Performing simple routine maintenance on the pump will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Helpful items include needle-nose pliers, multipurpose oil and a shop rag.

Thank you for an easy-to-follow tutorial. I haven't started my old Coleman lantern in eons. With an ice-storm threatening to snap every branch overhanging power lines this weekend, your video comes in a timely fashion.

i have lanterns from the mid-40s and I've never had to replace the pump leather. just flip it inside-out to stretch it and soak it in oil for a few hours. That has never not worked for me.

Rubber or leather can be replaced with the better leather pump cup. It is much cheaper and much better.

As a collector, I would never switch the leather cup with neoprene. Neoprene is unreliable in cold weather. Just get replacement leather cup, soak in neetsfoot oil and install like the video says..

Hi, I would think that oiling it would fix it for a while. A new kit would be the way to go.

Great instructions, however those tanks are filled with gasoline (or a non-detergent fuel of similar volatility). You really should tell people to either do this outdoors, or make sure the lantern is thoroughly drained and odor free first. You don't want gas fumes in an enclosed area.

I thought I saw replacement pumps at my local Canadian Tire with leather plungers. maybe my eyes are just tricking me...
