    Personally I don't think any animal/fish should be bred withi incest. It's just wrong! Like the breeding of so called English white rabbits with black spots in a certain pattern. That idea came from the imagination of a painter. And rabbit breeders harken to it. Totally ridiculous. All that inbreeding leads to abnormalities. Not acceptable in human terms. So why should it be acceptable with breeders in general whether animal or fish. It's unnecessaryly unnatural. Sorry but I much prefer the luck of the draw in variation.

      Thank you for your input, Jessica. Your comment has been very insightful and will inspire me to write an article on this topic for our website. I appreciate your contribution to the video.
      While I understand the concerns around inbreeding in fish, it's worth noting that inbreeding is a common occurrence, both in nature and especially in aquarium hobby, whether we are conscious of it or not.
      For instance, consider the hypothetical scenario where you introduce five black male guppies and five white female guppies into an aquarium. The first generation will indeed not be interbred, but from the second generation onward, inbreeding becomes inevitable unless there's a systematic removal of every newborn. After a year or two, you'd end up with a population that is highly inbred, even though you haven't selectively bred them for specific traits.
      However, it's crucial to distinguish between inbreeding that results in harmful physical deformities and those that don't negatively affect the quality of life for the fish. In this regard, I do agree that selectively breeding for certain traits, like in some fancy goldfish varieties, where it impedes their health and well-being, is a practice that should be discouraged.
      Additionally, consider a real-life case. We have been fortunate enough to acquire a group of Bandula Barbs, a species currently listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. We acquired these fish to contribute to the preservation of the species in the face of their impending extinction. Given the circumstances, I believe this kind of inbreeding is not only acceptable but also necessary for their survival.
      Moreover, I argue that most fish species in the hobby are inbred to some degree. Even if you acquire fish from different stores, they often source their stock from the same wholesalers who, in turn, rely on the same breeders. Even in the case of wild-caught fish, one cannot guarantee that the scattered eggs aren't fertilized by siblings.
      In conclusion, while inbreeding should not be promoted without consideration, it's often an unavoidable part of captive breeding. It's important to strike a balance, being mindful of potential health risks. I believe the best approach is to manage the breeding responsibly, especially when it can contribute to the preservation of endangered species and when it doesn't result in traits that compromise the fish's health and quality of life.
      Thanks again for your comment it is appreciated, even if we agree to disagree :)

      yeah...I agree w/you...inbreeding animals to further the line is just blatant money grab/neglect of animals for the sole purpose of monetary gains. Yeah it happens in nature but the inbred animals usually don't survive.
      I believe that there should be NO excuse to inbreed an animal...and the ONLY reason it's done is for money. It's not even done to preserve an endangered species...because it reduces the animals lifespan and fertility....
      When inbreeding IS done it's for is a very useful tool in the field of animal breeding cuz it enables the biologist to uncover and eliminate harmful recessive genes within the population.

      @Aquadiction it's true I just started my tanks end July and all my research has shown that it's hard. I try going directly to breeders instead of stores now so I can try and diversify as much as possible. But I will never truly be able to.

    You're doing wonderful with your Staecks development! I have a small family of them I adore - the dad is just so beautiful and his son's are coming into their colors now so I'm excited to see how they look. Interestingly, my Staecks give me the most males per generation compared to my Blue Moscow Guppies and my Yellow Tiger Endlers and my mutt guppies where I get very few males.

    • @Aquadiction
      @Aquadiction  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the feedback! It's great to hear that your Staecks are doing well and the young ones are starting to show their colors - that's always an exciting stage.
      That's an interesting observation about the male to female ratio in your Staecks compared to your other guppies. It's fascinating how these things can vary across different strains.
      Appreciate you sharing your experience. :)

    The little male @ 1:58 with the 1 small spot and that electric blue striping in the tail 😢😢 absolutely stunning and I want one now. I really want some endlers with that neon/ vibrant blue coloration. Being shade colorblind, blues show up for me so much better than the orange/red❤

      Appreciate your comment! That little guy at 1:58 really catches the eye, doesn't he?!
      Totally get why you're after some endlers with the same bright blue. Makes a lot of sense with the color blindness (sorry to hear that). I'd say maybe Blue Star endlers but they are a really dark dark blue for the most part with shades of lighter blue! Guess you must be a cardinal tetra fan?

    Hello. Great video! I have had an opportunity to talk to mr Staeck and he said that in general this strain is naturally extremelly variable but most people prefer to select for two dots. Orginally fishes that he brough back was very, very variable.

    • @Aquadiction
      @Aquadiction  11 місяців тому +1

      Hey, thanks for sharing that with us its really appreciated and confirms what we have been finding ourselves over the years, we were lucky to get some of the first available from Germany going way back now, I always suspected they maybe hybrids but this helps with my own personal understanding especially as the info about them being variable came from Staeck himself! Thanks again for sharing this info with us, def something to keep in mind and perhaps edit our Staeck profile on our site with the info at some point!!

      Thanks for the feedback buddy! Culling any of these as in terms of ending them isn’t an option so we put all the culls in a separate tank and will be giving them away for sure! Never had to cull any of our other strains ever, such a shame these are so variable 🫤

      @vasili1207 Рік тому +1

      @@Aquadiction o yeah i didn't mean that sort of culling, i didn't think you would, i just meant to whittle them down to your best as they all looked nice. • @Aquadiction
      @Aquadiction  Рік тому

      No worries bud, think we need a new word for culling in the fish hobby as it makes you me think of flushing them or something, we did try using culls as feeders for our leporinus about six months back but we now have a whole breeding colony of culls in there that seem to be completely untouched, very strange
