If the translator offered links to download the ROM file then he can be held liable for damages and im guessing that he knows that and doesnt offer links to sites that have the file. Overall your statement kinda shows the broad base of how little most people know about how infringing copyrights actually does impact a company and it’s decisions it makes. Back during the "Earthbound 64" days of the game's development there was a screenshot of Wess and Duster in battle, with Duster's HP down to 0 (with Wess alive to keep a game over from happening). It was most likely a very strong idea that carried over for awhile since accessing Mother 3's debug room reveals that Wess was programmed to level, just like the other (regular) party members.

Well, they pretty much are using that Steam idea (aside from on the Switch). It's just limited to their own systems (including the new standalone classic line) rather than on PC, which only makes sense. Why would they give people a reason not to buy their systems by making some of their games no longer exclusive to them?
I believe Tomato has said Nintendo could use his translation for a localization without any compensation, so it wouldn't be all that difficult to bring to the West.
Localizing Mother 3 would be a no-win situation for NOA. If NOA sanitize Mother 3 for Western audiences, then the hardcore fans would be upset for a sanitize version. A Fan: That's ok, I have translated the game so everyone can enjoy this beautiful masterpiece. Nintendo: REEEEEEEEEEEE! **dispelling cease and desist letters, and lawsuits**

What an interesting watch. Never played a mother or earthbound game, but this was very insightful and calming. Thank you for the video. Well i just finished mother 3 :') give us mother 3
The only reason Mother3 isn't widely considered one of the greatest games of all time is simply because so few people have played it! To anyone who reads this, I IMPLORE you to go about getting your hands on the fan translation. It's truly a masterpiece and it WILL change your life.
I love this game so much. And that music made me cry a lot when I beat the game. I really hope one day by some miracle that it does get localized outside of Japan. More people need to experience this amazing story. Mother is one of my most favorite series ever. Between Mother, Mario, Pokemon, Metroid, and Zelda, Mother is the one series that has caused me to cry.
@Auto Correct Oh, I agree...before you factor in that his LPs are edit-intensive *and* like I said, he has multiple projects in secret (aka future LPs) going on. Watch his "Making a Let's Play" video.
I treasure this game. It’s story masterfully explores much more complex and mature subjects than its appearance would lead you to expect. On first glance, you wouldn’t expect that this game is probably gonna make you cry a few times. I love the mystique that has grown up around Mother 3. Those who wished to play it in English had to seek out the translation from the incredibly generous folks who took it upon themselves to take on the arduous task of translating the staggering amount of dialogue. Not only did these amazing folks translate the words, they also had to translate pop culture references, slang, puns, and jokes. None of which translate directly. This sort of translation work requires true immersion and fluency in, not only language, but culture as well. Having to modify a rom file gives the game a certain air of exclusivity. It feels as though you are in on a little secret. After years of drooling, I recently bit the bullet and purchased a mint-in-box GameBoy Micro Mother 3 edition from Japan. It was pricey, but it has become one of my most treasured possessions. It feels like it’s a small piece of gaming history, and I absolutely love it.
Shigesato Itoi's general philosophy towards video games really make him the ideal developer, to me. The general themes he wants to explore when making a game, and the fact he doesn't want to push the development of another game if it wouldn't have anything meaningful to say. It's a shame he's somewhat retired from the business, but I suppose that's one of his admirable traits too.
I feel like making the game release one the gba was the best idea they ever did with the series, we would not have gotten the amazing timeless art of mother 3 and it would of never been the same. Also the music in the begining of this video is my favourite track in all of mother 3 and is a super nostolgic song for me.
It also helped further cement that the GBA was a serious console. Not like a baby toy but a serious console that you would play even at home cause the games just are that damn good. It's where I htink the PSP kind of fell short where it had good games but almost all of them had superior versions on the PS3.
I can't help but imagine an animated movie of Mother 3 made by Dreamworks using their 2D renaissance animation. The first part of the game gives me Spirit and Prince of Egypt vibes.
Thank you so much for this. We need to realize that smash ultimate, might be the final time that Nintendo of America acknowledge that Lucas exists. I love this series and I'd hate to see this game fade away.
Fernando Banda think about it, every character is returning, and new characters are being added. And there is possibly a story mode. I wouldn't be surprised if this is is the last one.
Why would they suddenly stop wanting money and sakurai stated the series may continue in the future and talked a bit about it like he said that ultimate will ruin possibilities of future games but it may be sakurais last samsh but not the last smash
@@RowletGameing I guarantee Nintendo won't let such a huge franchise like Smash to die, they will continue to lool for another director if Sakurai stops.
I wish someone else at Nintendo would take over the Mother series. That way we could get Mother 4 and maybe even a localization of Mother 3. Of course the new person would need to be similarly creative as Itoi or else it wouldn't be... Mother.
they changed the project to not be called Mother 4 anymore, and i haven't heard anything about the project in ages. it's starting to look like vaporware tbh.

I'm down as long as they keep the original sprites.
Did you know? Making trivia videos won’t bring claus back.
Lol
:/
why would you make this comment
Shut up >:( You’re not funny
Porky Minch Exactly what the real porky would reply
Wait Itois original idea became persona 4, It’s an RPG, you have too make social links and also solve a murder
Did you know?
That Nintendo will never localize Mother 3?
yA dOn'T sAy
WHAT NO WAY?? i was JUST looking for a DYKG for this game earlier and this showed up!!! i just beat the game for the first time a little over a week ago and i’ve been craving more mother content!! this is awesome!
I see Mother, I click.
Happy 15th anniversary Mother 3! Here’s to the fan translation being mass produced!
Fans: When will we be able to play Monther games?
Nintendo: We were planning on releasing the English translation of the game... But it's too hard to translate the language. So we scrap the idea.
A Fan: That's ok, I have translated the game so everyone can enjoy this beautiful masterpiece.
Nintendo: REEEEEEEEEEEE! **dispelling cease and desist letters, and lawsuits**
Imagine being chosen to make the soundtrack for mother 3. The pressure must have been immense. But of course they knocked it out of the park.
MOTHER 3 is the best game I've ever played. I can happily and proudly say it's my favourite game of all times
"Animal Crossing might have been the realization Itoi's idea"
Ah yes, I sure love investigating a murder in Animal Crossing
I JUST beat this game and immediately rushed to see this. I'm kinda sad to hear that he won't be making more games but...it's for a good reason. I appreciate his work so much. Hope his sphincter is still doing well.
Seeing this in my recommended made my night. I never thought it would exist! I beat the game on hard mode today so I feel even better.
Mother 3 is one of the best games ever made I'd highly recommend anyone who can to play the English translation mentioned in the video
What an interesting watch. Never played a mother or earthbound game, but this was very insightful and calming. Thank you for the video.
Well i just finished mother 3 :') give us mother 3
Play earthbound
America: _"Come on Nintendo, Give us Mothers 3!"_
Nintendo: Screw you, America
Reggie: How about this instead?
6:04 *What's surprising about that? Doesn't take 4 months to write a song. You can write a song in a day*
The only reason Mother3 isn't widely considered one of the greatest games of all time is simply because so few people have played it!
If you haven't played this i highly recommend it
I was just thinking "When are they making Mother 3 DYKG?"
Should've gotten Chuggaaconroy to talk about it
Chaotic Neutral yeah
Lol, it would be great ;D
I think he's busy taking care of his own LP projects. Maybe if he wasn't doing an active LP right now, he'd have the time.
Chaotic Neutral well he talked about earthbound
Did you know?
Nintendo knows we want Mother 3, they’re just teasing us at this point.
This hits differently now that mother 3 is confirmed to not release in america in the next few years
Why don´t you play soundtracks, when you mention them? I can´t relate to those music facts, that you mention, if you don´t play the tracks!
This is one of the few games that made me cry rivers and i didn't regret playing it, its such a rollercoaster of emotions
I love this game with all my being. It’s damn-near perfect in my eyes and it’s an absolute travesty that the series has been dormant for so long.
So essentially, Persona 4 is the original concept of Shigasato Itoi’s vision for the mother series
I can't help but imagine an animated movie of Mother 3 made by Dreamworks using their 2D renaissance animation.
The first part of the game gives me Spirit and Prince of Egypt vibes.
I'm still hoping we get this & I believe we will.
I would dieee
I thought theyaren't doing the Virtual Console with the Switch
Why are you always top comment?!
I'm still hoping that you stop commenting generic replies to video game related videos
I'm not holding my breath, their online service is crap.
This game is absolutely beautiful
Mother 3 is one of my favorite JRPGs of all time, simply put.
I want this game to be localized more than I want ANY new game announcement. Make it happen, Reggie.
All I’m saying is that Mind of Thief is definitely the most catchy song from Mother 3 which is why it’s played though most of this video
Lucus? Is that you in the thumbnail
No papa
No thats Mirio
I think it's kind of obvious that the hero of the story would be in the thumbnail...
@@funkness sarcasm
Lucas
This is the only game ever to have made me cry in the end. No other game has ever done that so far.
one day, Mother 64 should leak out, or be released as a rework of what's there,
5:25 - Wow... Considering how intense that section was in the final product, I really wonder just how vile the original draft was...
Thank you so much for this. We need to realize that smash ultimate, might be the final time that Nintendo of America acknowledge that Lucas exists. I love this series and I'd hate to see this game fade away.
What do you mean? Don't you think there will be future Smash games?
Fernando Banda think about it, every character is returning, and new characters are being added. And there is possibly a story mode. I wouldn't be surprised if this is is the last one.
Why would they suddenly stop wanting money and sakurai stated the series may continue in the future and talked a bit about it like he said that ultimate will ruin possibilities of future games but it may be sakurais last samsh but not the last smash
@@RowletGameing Maybe for Sakurai.
@@RowletGameing I guarantee Nintendo won't let such a huge franchise like Smash to die, they will continue to lool for another director if Sakurai stops.
Just finished mother 3 today, this will stick with me for forever and I am very thankful for the ability to try it.
I wish someone else at Nintendo would take over the Mother series. That way we could get Mother 4 and maybe even a localization of Mother 3. Of course the new person would need to be similarly creative as Itoi or else it wouldn't be... Mother.
or just let the trilogy be. They're fantastic the way they are and don't need another.
I get it but when you've played every game in the trilogy more than 10 times like I did you kinda wish there'd be something new.
If Nintendo keeps ignoring it, they should just go to Sony. They'll be like "Final Fantasy" after they ditched Nintendo.
@@BahuschBahusch Well, fans are making Mother 4, and it's looking pretty good!
they changed the project to not be called Mother 4 anymore, and i haven't heard anything about the project in ages. it's starting to look like vaporware tbh.
Also you should have mentioned the unused empathy/kindness mechanic and the unused battle option "consider". Also the unused Masked Man battle backgrounds. All of those are pretty cool
8:12 Lucas just dabbed...
2:43 what the fuck?!
is that a DEAD ness?
Mother 3 is truly a masterpiece.
So many fun little tidbits about a wonderful little video game. I love it.
I hope these games show up on the Switch eventually
Lucas, the main character of this dareing adventure....
Only knows 2 attacking psi moves?!?
No wonder him and ness are basically echo characters. All they did was steal the other members psi
"COME ON REGGIE GIVE US MOTHER 3"
Technically it's Ness's fault
“That would be awful for my sphincter.” Shigesato Itoi
