Clearing a malfunction and performing a reload are two separate actions. Having a common movement between them is not that useful, because clearing a stovepipe is completely different problem than needing a fresh mag. And hence the key goals and operations to achieve them are dissimilar. Having one similar move between them does little to reinforce both drills. You need to practice all drills, exactly the way you want to do them.
awsome vid erica, id have you watch me 6 and day! you should build an AR, you wont save alot of money but you get exactly what you want without buying an AR and then having to swap out parts! its fun too I love building ar's
Erica, I love your videos! It inspires me to get better at shooting. My fiance and I do it together and we have so much fun, plus he thinks it's hot... can't go wrong with that lol. Oh, also I'm an interior design student also! Keep up the awesome work! I love the videos about your gear!
Also, I understand the Glock/M&P small slide catch/release issue, but I would argue that one should purchase an extended slide catch. They are fairly inexpensive(~$20), don't get in the way, and give you flexibility. One handed reloads are much simpler with an good slide catch lever, rather than doing a holster rack on the rear sight.
Just a thought on the reload at 0:35. 1911's have fairly large controls, so releasing the slide with the slide release is quite positive and faster than giving the slide a tug with the support hand. The support hand can go straight from the magazine well to firing position while the strong hand is thumbing the release.
*Ahem* Straight from the Glock Instruction Manual. "After the last round has been fired, the slide remains open. Remove the empty magazine from the weapon by pushing the magazine catch (19). Insert a new magazine and then either push the slide stop lever (27) downwards (see photo), or pull the slide slightly backwards and allow it to spring forwards. The weapon is now again secured and ready to fire." That lever was designed in such a way to facilitate completing a reload. Even on a Glock.
Btw, I received all the practical instruction I could want from a very kind police officer and fellow competitor at my range. He is very keen to help new competitors and shooters and has been a wealth of information when I started shooting Modern Steel and Cowboy Action Shooting. So don't tell me I don't have my ears open.
That's fine, but here's my retort to that. In my experience, anyone who has trouble reaching the slide catch/release without changing their grip also has trouble reaching the magazine release without changing their grip. If you watch other videos of Erica, she twists the gun left slightly during a reload to reach the mag release. My point is that most people that cant reach the slide catch need to twist the gun anyways during a reload, so changing your grip is really a non-issue.
I can understand that thinking. My response to that however would be to buy an extended slide lock levers for your Glocks. Since you are into IDPA and preparing for, god-forbid, life or death situations, having the an extended slide lock lever allows one to charge the gun more effectively with the use of only one hand (rather than a rear-sight to holster rack). Just my thoughts on the matter. No malice intended. Happy shooting!
Cool vid! It's amazing how far Erika has come. I remember when first started doing the vids with Cory she would shoot then giggle lil bit:) Now she has complete command on any weapon in her hands. Keep up the good work guys!!
I have a friend , Presley ...that looks like you...with an identical laugh ...lol every time I watch your vids it reminds me of her.. keep the vids comin!
agreed 100% do what is the most comfortable for you. I always carried 1911's overseas but with smaller hands can not reach the slide lock without twisting the weapon. I got in the habit of racking the slide, Even after I installed extended slide locks I am still a faster and more accurately putting rounds on target rackin the slide rather than going for the slide lock. I truely is to each their own because every shooters hands and techniques are different.
Well I think I will just "borrow" this BCM from Cory, I am looking into picking on up around the first of the year. I cant decide if I want to build me own or just buy one
Oh, don't start that crap. John Browning designed that lever to release the slide, otherwise it wouldn't be exposed on the outside side of the gun, like the Radom P64.
hey cory were did you get your jacket? lookin to get a new one so get back if you could thanks also another great vid i gota say i think she shoots better than you you now Lol.
Like Larry Vickers, who teaches using the slide release when possible to facilitate a slide-locked reload? A man with 20 years of military service, 15 in SFOD Delta? Come on dude, there are reputable trainers who teach thumbing the slide catch on a reload, so don't try to discredit it by saying that worth-while instructors ONLY teach the over-hand slide rack.
Maybe the reason I got "pissy" is because you immediately say I'm wrong. That button, regardless of whether you want to call it a catch, lock, release, or a zebra, was DESIGNED to facilitate a reload. You want to talk about how wrong it is to use the slide catch for a reload? Why don't you take a look at what Larry Vickers (15 years Special Forces Operational Detachment- Delta) has to say on the matter. He's not pigeon-holed himself and recognizes the benefits of using it.
Hi, Talk to me about your thumb over the top on the foregrip of the rifle that you were shooting.Pros, cons ....It looks uncomfortable ... While waiting for you to get back to me I will go and see if I cramp my wrist up trying it. Have Fun,and Thanks!
All of my current pistols are Glock, which is why I have upgraded the slide release to the extended lever. Funny thing is the part is Glock OEM, so why don't they put it on there from the jump?
I do not want to train myself to do that or get in the habit, I rarely shoot 1911s I usually shoot Glocks. Glocks have a much smaller slide LOCK, not release, than the 1911s which makes it more difficult. I want to train myself to do and use something that will work 100% of the time under any situation especially a life or death one.
Its good to practice like that. However, I have found that such training doesn't actually prepare you for combat. Any marine should know this. Surprisingly, you can get good mental training with RO2 or Iron Front. You might have the right moves, but these games teach you that there is a whole other mental state that must be achieved to actually be effective in combat. In general though, training tired and disoriented is pretty good.
Erika is absolutely correct in her reasons for saddling or power stroking her pistols. What is important is that Erika understands why she does what she does. It's obvious to me that both her and Cory have received quality instruction -- they both display excellent abilities and able to articulate! I enjoy watching both of them and I'm sure their instructors are proud to see them perform. Great work you two!
OK, I tried it. This grip will not transfer over to more traditional rifles The thumb obscures the sights. The grip seems to be sort of unsteady when apllied to older full size rifles. Was this developed specificaly for a rifle-sling combination?
Not trolling ya, but Erika could maybe kick your ass silly anyway. She once had a vdeo of her doing like hand to hand on a dummy target or something and she STOMPED the hell out of it. Scarey to think of me geing under her during that assault. She is gorgeous but a femme fatale, too.
I recom. front site if you ever in vegas. great time with whole family. 2 day if you doing other things like cris angel show . If longer then a week i recom. there 4 day training and range. :)
And no, I don't go to tacticool training, because they're almost all tripe. Those "Super Ninjas" usually don't know jack and just want to make your wallet a little lighter. Also, if your grip is sloppy enough to be impeding the catch, someone else could have grip where they are releasing the mag with their thumb under recoil. Both are bad grips problems and should be rectified as such. Oh, and nice try responding without actually hitting the reply button.
Thank you very much
I was running a G-Code OSH Holster is Mutilcam. I will have a review up in a few weeks with some more G-Code holsters.

That was awsome how fast and smooth u were with correcting that failure to rack
It is a G-Code OSH holster in Muticam. I will be doing a review on several G-Code holsters in the next few weeks.
Right on!
Ahh Erica your shooting has improved much over this past year. Good for you!
Smart. I do the same thing for the same reason... it's about repetition and habit - to the point that it comes so natural...
Range Officers are excellent
Great shooting.

Yea Ive kinda neglected it and focused on doing videos for Corys channel but Im going to put more time into this one now.
That 1911 is awesome! Awesome shooting Erika!
Gaspard, I believe it is better to rack the slide, because you are also training yourself for when malfunctions happen (Type 1, 2, or 3).
Just a thought on the reload at 0:35. 1911's have fairly large controls, so releasing the slide with the slide release is quite positive and faster than giving the slide a tug with the support hand. Do it!!!
Sure are!
that's some mighty fine shootin' tex
i forgot i was subbed to this channel and not just cory's. nice. put some more vids up on this channel
Thank you very much! It sure has been a heck of a ride so far.
Btw, I received all the practical instruction I could want from a very kind police officer and fellow competitor at my range. He is very keen to help new competitors and shooters and has been a wealth of information when I started shooting Modern Steel and Cowboy Action Shooting. So don't tell me I don't have my ears open.
Thank you! We certainly hope to see you
glad to see you guys are still going at it!

Thank you so much, it has taken some time and a lot of hard work
Heck of a rifle!! Im an AK girl, but Im a little obsessed with this AR
It truly is a great gun, thank you much!
I can understand that thinking. My response to that however would be to buy an extended slide lock levers for your Glocks. not sure if there are too many things better than a beautiful women shooting a gun the way she can great vid

keep the vids comin!
Id love to do one! Thank you very much

that was bad ass.....
Haha your great at shooting watching the how much you progressed is impressive
Erica is bad ass!!!
Its a Condor jacket, I believe we went on Amazon and ordered through Gadsden and Culpeper
I just got a new ejector actually. It was a bad round

It was a bad round, it happens
I would love to train with you guys, and i'm from the horrible state of California lol. Great vids.
I'd really love to get into doing videos. You guys do a great job.
Muscle memory. It is great practice! When $#!+ hits the fan do you want to kill whats in front of you and then get blindsided?
He's whipped.
Drop the zero and get with this hero!

heres a guy that trusts too easily lawlz!
A girl that can really shoot and she observes gun safety. - Awesome !

Thanks, it has become muscle memory
Well I think I will just "borrow" this BCM from Cory, I am looking into picking on up around the first of the year. I cant decide if I want to build me own or just buy one

Classy
Whats wrong don't like the fact that a girl can out shoot you?
Love My BCM Rifle
hey cory were did you get your jacket? lookin to get a new one so get back if you could thanks also another great vid i gota say i think she shoots better than you you now Lol.

Even the sharpest of knives get rusty.
When are you going to do a video on your JEEP?
I can't think of a better combination of firearms to use, BCM AR and Springfield Operator allllll day.
Erica* wow

Great video, One question, What kydex holster are you using for your handgun? ( video time stamp starting at 1.06) Thanks in advance.

Wow! a beautiful women doing stuff I love to do ........she's a keeper. keep up the great work.
If you do any tactical training, your instructor will advise you to release the slide this way. If they don't, get a new trainer. :)
I am women! WOMEN ARE GREAT MUTI-TASKERS! Something some men just wouldnt understand.

Btw, your Kyle Lamb shows the slide catch used during a slide-locked reload in his video.

If I was/am raised (not born) in Indiana can that make me a Hoosier? (Muncie)
Is that from a lot of jams or practice in case of jams?
why can't i delete the pop-ups on the video? anybody thanks
I recom. front site if you ever in vegas. great time with whole family. 2 day if you doing other things like cris angel show . If longer then a week i recom. there 4 day training and range. :)

What kind of trigger is on that AR?
:)
