Japanese and Chinese art is easy to confuse, especially since many old Japanese paintings were made in the style of Chinese artists. I can't tell from the writing, clothing or landscape if it is Japanese or Chinese. Did he say it is Japanese?
Laifs Laifs I am not an expert on East Asian art but I am chinese and also an art student. I’m convinced that this screen is chinese. The writing is not a clear indicator because the Japanese also would write chinese texts, but the clothing is chinese, and the aesthetics of the paintings feels chinese. The screen itself (the bamboo part of the screen, or the part that is MADE rather than PAINTED) is unlike the traditional Chinese screens which tend to be more complex in designs. The simplicity would suggest that it could be japanese, but it also could easily be modern. Overall I believe that this screen is chinese, but it might not be an antique.
@@noraaliciagiles7622 similar enough. I do wish it would be considered the same nation. A few Japanese still have Chinese Bloodline from 100 BC but some Japanese Samurai have been at War against China. It made it really tragic.
@@asdasdrgsdfsdf2810 actually, it is possible to mic in a way that you don't get the clacking, or to filter it out, but since it's usually played with a continuous tone and with at least one drone string, it's quite a distinctive sound still. You should thank UA-cam for showing you this great instrument. The Hurdy Gurdy is one of my favorite instruments to study and listen to. It's history and origin are quite amazing.
I’ve always loved the sound of the Hurdy-Gurdy but what this guy is doing with it here is something else entirely. Sounds so smooth. The backing instrumentation really helps to smooth it out in this presentation. The droning sounds seem to be coming from the backing instruments (which sound electronic in nature) but I’m not sure about that, and in my mind, that is what has smoothed out the sound and made it sound newer and more modern. The original droning strings might be still in there but when they are played under normal conditions they sort of have a dragging sound that is very old sounding to me. That seems to be missing here but the soloing melody line is so much sweeter that way that it more than makes up for it. In fact, if I wasn’t watching this but merely listening to the audio blindfolded, I would have guessed that I was hearing a flute or Irish Pipes, because the sounds are so sweet. Now that I listen to is again it almost sounds a little like a violin or better an electric violin. Beautiful arrangement and I love watching you crank the handle and stop and back up like a violin bow action. Just amazing. I really want to play one of these so badly, but I don’t know where to find one. I would love to build one, do you know if there are any construction plans available anywhere? Maybe I will look on the Internet. I just love exotic stringed instruments.
beautifully played, the hurdy-gurdy is such a fascinating instrument to watch someone playing. it looks very difficult to play, but from videos talking about the hurdy-gurdy they say it's even more difficult to tune.
The 1982 movie "The Return of Martin Guerre" had a enigmatic musical soundtrack that enchanted me but as far as I could find out in those pre-internet days, the soundtrack was never released. Hearing this just now (Linked on Reddit) immediately evoked that music and I suspect a hurdy -gurdy may have been used for part of it. Thanks for illuminating something that was special for me.
This instrument has me totally intrigued, there are so many things going on! I started looking through other artists playing this and have to admit that at this point Andrey is the best I have seen so far, love your works with this!
I like to get blazed whiling listening to his playing and drift off to sleep where I imagine my self as a medevil knight jousting to win the heart of the lady I seek, to this soundtrack, then I wake up and am back to running the Batman rollercoaster at six flags. Very powerful stuff

Never heard of this instrument before, but its awesome. Heard a lot in movies playing, but always thought it was a violin or something similar.
best way to tell if it's a hurdy gurdy or not is the iconic clacking of the keys being pressed

What about the elves and dwarfs?
Nice piece. It takes advantage of the gurdy's abilities without becoming an annoying droning sound.
Yes, I had only seen them played a few times and none had used this back and forth “bowing” technique.
Brian Perkins it’s just tremolo dude.
@@mohammednasheed9638 Yes that might be a semi-accurate term, but it is still the case that I had not seen the technique on a hurdy-gurdy. Your point?
