- Nickolaus Ashford, one half duo of mega Motown songwriter's Ashford & Simpson succumbed to throat cancer on August 22, 2011. Nick Ashford is survived by his wife and music songwriting partner, Valerie Simpson. They were married for 38 years..."Solid As A Rock". Motown's dynamic songwriting duo "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" "I'm Every Woman" "Solid As A Rock" "Reach Out and Touch".

Resting peacefully the greatest couple of Ashford and Simpson Nick thank you for the greatest jouly and happiness your songs gave us all. LOVE WILL ALWAYS BE YOURS SPECIAL GIFT TO EACH OTHER.

For the contributions they made to the world of music - these artists deserve to be recognized for their tremendous talents and contributions. Thanks again☺

Wonderful!! no one can forgot that song Solid ... i remember when i was young thinking his long wet look hair was longer than his wife! haha! i loved hearing him sing! Wow! i didn't even know he wrote hits for chaka and diana! wot a fab couple! his gone too soon! Really enjoyed this tribute - tks

The song is the instrumental version of "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell, by the original band the Funk Brothers. A band that was the staple for so many Motown Hit songs. 🙂
