Hi guys, yeeehaaa! You have arrived at Helloween, one of the metal bands whose music I grew up with. If you liked this - and seeing as you are Halloween-fans, you should totally check out one of their most epic tracks: "Halloween". The official live video features not only all three guitarists, but also BOTH vocalists. Yes, Helloween are now a 7-piece band. When they started out in the early 1980s, Kai Hansen (guy with the red guitar) was their vocalist and guitarist, alongside Michael Weikath ( guy with the blue guitar and songwriter of Eagle fly free), Markus Grosskopf (guy with pumpkin bass) and drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg (tragically deceased in the 1990s). Kai soon found it too strenuous doing vocals and guitar, so they found Michael Kiske, whom you see on vocals in this video. Together they put out their most successful albums, Keeper of the seven keys pt. 1 (1987) and pt. 2 (1988). However, vocalist Michael and guitarist Kai left the band a few years later and were replaced - after a few changes - by vocalist Andi Deris (not seen in this video), guitarist Sascha Gerstner (white guitar) and drummer Dani Löble. Only a few years ago Kai and Michael rejoined the band, keeping the other two on board, so now they have 2 vocalists (3 actually, since Kai still does vocals sometimes), 3 guitars, bass and drums.
Helloween actually came by three guitarists the same way Iron Maiden did. Originally consisting of just two guitarists Kai Hansen (red flying V) and Michael Weikath (white flying V), after Kai left to form Gamma Ray, they eventually brought in Sascha Gerstner (white bar-top guitar), then when Kai came back, they just decided to go with all three, same as wehn Adrian Smith left Iron Maiden and was replaced by Jannick Gers, then came back. Lead singer Michael Kiske also left for several years and returned at the same time Kai did, though the singer who replaced Kiske (Andi Deris) is also still with the band, so the fully-reunited Helloween has three guitars and two lead singers (three counting Kai, who is also a singer).
Hi guys, thanks for checking out the original Helloween video as well. I see so many parallels between Helloween and Lovebites, no wonder the ladies decided to make a cover version of this song. Aside from the ultra intense clear voices of both Asami and Michael, the songwriting with a cool combination of fast and heavy riffs with catchy melodies and the immensly technical playing of the instrumentalists in both bands, I love how both bands radiate utter friendliness and fun. In the 1980s when many other bands were into the "anger and destruction" themes, Helloween brought fun and friendliness into metal, and Lovebites took that to the next level.
Back to the fuckin grandfather's of power metal. Kiske still has it, his voice that is, not his hair 😂 I remember this from back in the late 80's when it came out.
In the late 80’s he was a slim fit late teenager with beautiful blonde hair. Nowadays he looks like your cool uncle but his voice is basically the same but more experienced and even better controlled now. It’s not a small thing considering that he recorded this same song 36 years ago
Andi (Andi Deris/vocals) has gotten older, well, like me too. Wow, I haven't heard the band from Hamburg/Germany for a long time - it's great that Helloween still perform live. Yes, Daniel "Dani" Löble on drums, he's just a damn good drummer! And the Helloween originals, two real Hamburg guys, bassist Markus Grosskopf, and guitarist Michael Ingo Joachim Weikath, known as Weiki, the anchors of the band, band members since the band was founded (1984) and simply great musicians!
Helloween is the father of Lovebites if you listen to the song "ride the sky" from the album "walls of Jericho" you'll understand what I mean in terms of musical structure.
PS: I really recommend checking "Halloween" by Helloween. It's an epic, cool, pretty complex and yet fun song featuring all 7 members of the band, including both lead vocalists.
I knew you two would fall in love with the original just like the covers, my favorite version is actually the 10 tablet academy with Gabby guns and that arrangement. However the original singer here has such a amazing tone to his voice that you can't deny the power of the song Don't worry for the gringa because once you sing the chorus one or two times and stays in your head, just say eagle fly free let people see and the words will stay in there forever. This represents a different era of metal altogether and we were blessed to see them performing as the original band. Helloween’s songs are basically a sensory overload and that’s why we love them. Yes, they have three guitars and two vocalists nowadays, haha. You should definitely check their song “Robot king” from their latest album. It’s like this on steroids
I liked it, for sure! It is a great time to be (re)discovering HELLOWEEN, as they are now touring with most of the original members back, while holding on to 3 (!) iconic voices of Power metal in one band: the high-flying Michael Kiske on whose pipes age leaves no imprint, the darker and characterful "antagonist" Andi Deris, and the unmistakable, charismatic, if sparely used, Kai Hansen. If you are going to mix it up going forward by including the classic bands of EuroPower and Speed scene, return to HELLOWEEN more often. Especially captivating to watch and experience would be their post-reunion Live versions of the band's 3 huge epics: - "Keeper of the Seven Keys" (one of absolute masterpieces, lyrically and musically, if they only ever wrote one song it had to be this one; legendary); - "King for a 1000 Years" (a kind of "Empire Strikes Back" to the Keeper's "New Hope"... themes come full circle, and the vocalists play off each other); - "Halloween" (the namesake song? not quite, but as you love LOVEBITES, hear the guitar work in this one to experience where that all originated!). Btw, it is HELLOWEEN, to be read as written - the band members were, and remain, just as famous for their tongue-in-cheek humor, so the moniker ought to read: HELL-O'-WEEN! They band logo literally puts a pumpkin in the place of O, visually separating the HELL from the WEEN. :))) Some souls get Heaven or Hell, while others apparently get a more gruesome fate in the pumpkin metallers' version! \m/
Nope! They had a reunion concert in 2016 at Wacken, but found out they enjoyed so much playing together, that they continued. Also releasing 2 albums with 2 vocals and 3 guitars. This is from 2023 when they visited Japan. Miyako from Lovebites met Marcus at a bar before or after the gig. Rest of the band went backstage.

Helloween and their Keeper of the Seven Keys album from 1987 are the big bang of power metal in Germany and Europe. In the USA there are other bands in the same category, but worldwide Helloween is a style-setter. Their first album was released in 1985 and guitarist Kai Hansen was also the lead singer. That's the guy with the pink guitar and the red leather jacket. Since he didn't want to do both, they hired Michael Kiske, who also sings here. When the band was crippled by legal disputes, Kai left the band in 1989 and founded Gamma Ray. After that, the chemistry in the band broke down and the music got increasingly worse. They blamed Kiske for this and fired him in 1993. When Andi Deris took over the microphone, the band was musically and psychologically at the end of its rope. Andi managed to rebuild the band as songwriter and manager. In 2013 they were back to their old strength. When they made a documentary for the band's anniversary, they came up with the idea of bringing the other two back for a small tour. They succeeded in doing this in 2016 and the small tour was followed by a big tour. When they started composing new songs together on the tour bus, it was clear that this was a reunion. When they released a new album together in 2021, they reached number 1 in the German album charts for the first time. That's why they now have three guitarists and one of the guitarists is a third singer. Drummer Daniel Löble has been in the band since 2005. They're not a metal band, but have two amazing thrash metal albums. Try these, Dragon, progressive thrash Organ Farmer, stoner thrash Mars For The Rich, classic thrash Motor Spirit, all of the above. studio is great, but live is where they excel. Definitely not a jam band...
